Unexpected encounter

A spell-binding story of a love which seemed to transcend time, space and circumstance. A refreshing story about April (who jilted her husband-to-be at the altar) and Hale (an emotionally wounded soldier) who meet unexpectedly after several years. A beautiful encounter, a heart-warming story.

Loved it!

A big fan of Kathleen Shoopâs books, I was eager to read her latest, the books in the Endless Love series. The first in this series, Home Again, was originally published as a novella, part of an anthology by several authors, entitled âBlissâ. Each author wrote about a particular group of people and a particular period in time, all associated with the North Carolina plantation called Bliss. Kathleenâs offering introduced us to April and Hale. It weaves a story that includes love, war, emotional scars and coming to terms. Home Again is a departure from Shoopâs previous books and writing style, but is a good story about healing and living after painful life events. This author is an amazing story teller, painting vivid pictures of her stories and characters. This is a really nice summer read.

I thought this book looked interesting but it was too short to begin with and had no substance. I would say for someone who likes mushy romance it would be ok.

This was a great book .It took a while to read but when I came back it time to read more I would go back one page to start. It came right back to me what was going on. I would read more of this author's books. she keep you in focus of what s t is coming next.

This is a crazy romance about Landry and Meredith who couldn't be more different In their thinking and way of lifestyle. It's a mix of drama, sadness, and romance as a woman restart her life back in her home town.

Crazy for You

Meredith is very intelligent, quirky and has a heart of gold. She has had many bad things happen to her in her life but still goes out of her way to make sure everyone she loves is happy. You cannot dislike her. She is a person that is inherently good.

We meet Landry in the diner and he is the new owner. He immediately is in sync with her oddities and the are instantly comfortable with each other. He does make me mad a few times by the mixed signals he keeps sending to Meredith but he is a good guy.

I loved seeing how they met each other and other important people in the other person's life before coming together. They both have known loss but reacted in a different way. It made them stronger as individuals.

You are pulled in to their world and want to be a part of it. It makes you laugh, cry, and some times scream.

choppy but enjoyable

This is an enjoyable story, but very weird/confusing. At times it reads like a HS book rather than about adults. Much of the story is confusing - and this might be on purpose, as it's sort of a mystery as well as a romance? I'm not entirely sure, but it made for a slightly frustrating read. Not so frustrating that I stopped reading, however, and as I mentioned, it is an enjoyable story. Autumn (aka Leafy) and Hunter both wear their hearts on their sleeves, for the most part, and are very sweet - even though what's going on around them is anything BUT sweet.

There's kind of a 'twist' at the end, which I sort of suspected, but still thought the author did a pretty good job of the 'reveal.'

This is book one in a ... series? I'm not quite sure. Book 2 is Fury, and appears to be Fierce from Hunter's POV. Am kinda thinking Fierce would have made more sense if it'd been merged w/ Fury & done in an alternate POV each chapter or two kinda way. There's a book 3 coming out, Flame. I'm not sure if I'll read it - Fierce & Fury are a complete story w/ an HEA & I don't know if Hunter & Autumn's story needs an angsty 3rd book. We'll see!! : )

A Rather Predictable Tale--but still worth reading

This book is not the best Anita Mills book I have read, but it was still a fairly good story. I did think the female character was a bit petulant for far too long. It seemed to me she never developed to be as strong as I thought she should have been.

I got to page 100 and got tired of the innocent heroine fighting her way among smelly, drunk, filthy cowboys. When she fell on a floor of a train filled with spit...I tossed the book. This is not indicative of anita mills writing. "Bittersweet" is one of her best. This one is definitely the worst....

Not One of Anita Mill's Best Books

Looking for closure, Verena Howard leaves her lonely, schoolteacher existence in Pennsylvania to resolve her fatherâs will in Texas. She is unprepared for the boldness of western men, in regard to unaccompanied women.

Mathew Morgan, a well-dressed and debonair gambler, notices Verena and warns her about the insults and bold assumptions men will make about her. It doesnât take long for Morganâs words to come true. Although their banter is charming and fun, the author didnât convince me that the characters had enough in common to form a lasting relationship.

Verena and her mother had been abandoned by Jack Howard during the Civil War. He never returned; when Mrs. Howard became desperate, she applied for a widowâs pension. Thatâs when she learned that her husband had deserted the Army with a group of men.

Verenaâs mom told her to avoid handsome men; Morgan was everything Verenaâs mother had warned her about. Morgan was a handsome gambler and he seemed to be on-the-run. Considerable discussion occurred along the story about Morganâs hate of farming and getting dirty. Thus, the end of the story left me baffled.

The writing was wonderful but the actions of the main folks in this story didnât stay in character. Iâve read other books by Anita Mills and think this was just a fluke. 2.5 stars

The flow of the words, saved the rating.

The description in this story is remarkable. Realistically, the reader journeys through southwestern Texas, after the civil war. Anita Mills' knack to convey the long, hot, dusty days or the sluggish train traveling through the barren wilderness is astonishing.

Vengeance

Whew. Where to start. Fast paced. Intense. Emotional. Sweet. Gritty. Sam carries the ultimate grudge and he's out for blood. Meeting Molly and her daughter complicates things, but ultimately Sam is determined to seek justice for...what he's lost. Sam gets his moment and when he's standing there with a gun pressed against the temple of the man who took what was priceless to him, I was thinking-do it, do it...but then, everything he'd found with Molly would be lost. I'm not going to spoil the end, but I wanted to cry, scream and smile all at the same time. Love and hate are both such powerful emotions. Ms. McDonald does a phenomenal job of helping us relate to both Sam and Molly, and the reasons made the choices they did. Definitely worth reading.

Good

Sam's an undercover ATF officer who lost his son and mother when a member of a MC club he was pretending to be a part of sent him a message. He's lived with the need for vengeance.

Sam ends up being shot and is taken by Johnny (the guy he saved) to his sister's house. Molly is in school to become a paramedic and helps him. While recovering Sam begins to develop feelings for Molly and her daughter. He misses his son and still mourns him terribly. Johnny brings trouble to Molly's and Sam is determined to protect them the way he didn't protect his son. Turns out its the same person Sam's after causing all the problems.

I liked Sam's character. I felt his loss and it broke my heart. I liked Molly well enough. I'm not a fan of dishonestly though. Overall book was good, no cliffhanger and happy ending.

When you seek vengeance and find something else on the way

I picked up seeking vengeance as I'm a huge fan of the Mark Taylor series and could not pass on another book from the same author.

Where Mark seems to always have trouble finding him, Sam rushes in to meet it

Sam lost his loved ones and has gone off the grid in a thirst for vengeance. As he closes in on his goal, he meets Molly - and her daughter- , how will his resuscitating heart affect the course he's on?

A solid storyline - and proof that you can write a solid suspense without a flourish of F-words or graphic details and still give you chills. As often with MP McDonald's books a great character development, people you root for, even with or because of their flaws.

Finished the book in one sitting, keep them coming MP McDonald!

Truly Something Special

The Games series by Nyrae Dawn has quickly become one of my contemporary romance favorites. Each book has impressed the heck out of me, treating me to all the right feels and giving me characters with stories I truly care about. Masquerade was no exception. I'd say it is the best in the series so far, but they've all been so good, I can't put one above the other.

This time around, it's Maddox's turn to enter the spotlight. Fans of the series will remember him from book 2 (Facade) as Laney's broody and oh-so-riveting older brother. As we dive into Maddox's story, we learn that he's carrying around massive amounts of guilt tied to events that were revealed in the last book, and his way of dealing with it is to close himself off emotionally and keep everyone at arm's length - that is, until he meets a kindred spirit in the form of a gorgeous tattoo artist named Bee, who stops in one night at the club where he works security. The two engage in a no-strings-attached hook-up and then part ways, each assuming they will never see the other again. But of course, it doesn't work out that way - and thank goodness for that, because Bee and Maddox need each other far more than either of them realize.

Although Bee and Maddox were both damaged characters, Maddox felt more damaged to me. He lived his life, went through all the right day-to-day motions, but he wasn't fully alive, and it killed me because he had so much going on inside that never made its way to the surface. He was like an iceberg - what you see is only a fraction of what's really there. He wasn't cold or unfeeling at all. His problem was, he felt too much, and had tricked himself into believing he was somehow responsible for all the painful things in the past that, really, he had no control over. I hurt for him, I really did. When he finally started to thaw and take his first tentative steps in Bee's direction, I was so happy I nearly cried.

Bee was weighed down by a very different set of issues. She'd gone through an ordeal as a child that left her with one heck of an identity crisis and a million questions she couldn't answer, and, like Maddox, her way of coping was to keep the world - and love - at a distance.

Nice Read

Everyone makes at least one mistake in their lives.This is a story about making amends,becoming a better person.New beginnings and its a good story.

I think I'm over the "surprise! we have a baby" genre.

There was an abundance of re-hashing going on at each chapter, as if I couldn't remember what I just read.

There are better books.

I adore this story

Kate and Max have a past the question pops up...will they have a future? The road they have to travel to answer that question is a long one, a road with bumps along the way. It is another Susan Meier story that grabbed my heart and my imagination. She is a terrific storyteller.

This book was a good read. I just didn't like the storyline. To much of should I be with him, should he be with her.

Tycoons Secret Daughter by Susan Meier

4 STARS I like how the characters are trying to deal with thier past troubles. They are trying to do whats best for thier daughter, not what they want. Thier are no warnings about the content of this book. I look forward to reading about Max's brother story that is coming soon but not as fast as I want. Max Montgomery had it all but then through his drinking he lost a lot of the good things in his life that he had. Max has been sober for seven years. He has tried to make up for all his past offenses when he was a drunk, except his ex-wife. Max was coming out of the elevator at the hospital and ran into his ex-wife he has not seen for 8 years. Kate Hunter was planning on telling her husband but the night she was going to he came home in a drunken rage. He broke a lot of things, even the front room window. Kate knew she had to protect her baby from Max and his family, so she ran that night. Max went up to Kate and was telling her that he was sorry he ruined thier marriage when another elevator opened up. Trisha came out and called her mom. One look and Max knew she was his daughter. Kate knew she could not afford to fight Max's family,money and all the judges that they helped get into office. Now seeing Max was sober and wanting to be a father Kate agreed he could see her but not alone for now. Kate was not ready to believe him that he was not a drunk any more and so angry. Max wanted to blame her for keeping his daughter a secret for so long but he knew it was him that made those troubles for his marriage. Kate planned to stay with her parents for 3 months and help while her dad was recovering from a stroke. Max had lots of money but knew he could not buy his daughter with expensive presents. I enjoyed reading this book. Seeing where Kate and Max dealing with the past and learning about who they were now.

Becoming a Devout Lily Everett Fan

I was introduced to Lily Everett's stories when I attended RWA Nationals and walked away with a signed copy of Sanctuary Island as my holy grail of the event. I'd heard about the setting of the series, which immediately made me think of my beloved Chincoteague Island and simply had to have a copy. I devoured that first book, and did the same with Shoreline Drive.

Without recapping the entire story, I will say that the aspect I found most satisfying was Ben and Merry's interactions. Their core relationship stayed true from beginning to end. Ben is a grouch (for good reason), and I appreciate that he remained Ben, that Merry remained Merry, and the two accepted each other without demanding a total transformation in character. That right there makes the love story feel so true and satisfying. I eagerly await the next installment in the series.

Good romance without sex

Easy reading romance featuring Merry and Ben. Merry is pregnant and moved to Sanctuary Island to reunite with her mother. She is happy-go-lucky always smiling. Ben is the island vet who has lived on the island, for a few years, to escape a secret and his wealthy overbearing parents. He does not express emotions and is rather blunt. After Ben delivers Merry's boy, he proposes a marriage of convenience which Merry accepts. They are working through the arrangements agreed to when Ben's parents suddenly appear with Merry's ex-boyfriend. How will it turn out with her ex-boyfriend wanting the opportunity to get to know his son and Ben afraid he will lose both Merry and her son which is all he has every wanted? Good romance.

SPOILER ALERT ~~~~ Wonderful story covering a gamut of human emotions ! Thanks Lily Everett. A few things missing tho, why no dogs in this story, other than on the outskirts, as Bens a Vet. Would have been great to have a dog as one of the family. I felt frustrated that Ben didn't end up adopting Alex.
