Plantations in the deep south during the period before the civil war were massive and complex operations. They were the mega corporations of the times. They specialized in specific cash crops such as cotton, tobacco and sugar cane. They also had a tremendous need for labor, and at this time in American history, that meant slave labor. Understandably, there were many attempts by slave laborers to find ways of fleeing these plantation ending their lives of servitude. Sometimes though, they were never able to escape their prison.

Who doesn’t love the sight of a classic motel alongside the highway? Generally, people check into a motel to have a safe place to rest and then check out the next day. Sometimes though, once you check in, you will never check out.

We trust doctors and nurses to make us feel better and to ease our pain because of their advanced level of knowledge and experience. When we go to the hospital with a curable ailment, we expect to get better and go home. Sometimes though, the cure becomes the disease.

People love to take on an adventure in the mountains whether it be climbing up the face or skiing to the slopes. Sometimes though, the mountain can swallow you whole.

These major roadways have become so well used that some American states have created a separate force just to police them: The Highway Patrol. Every day, people drive down the highway with nothing on their mind but where they are going. Sometimes though they never reach their destination.
