Amy Lincoln is a New York-based artist who makes carefully observed and imaginatively colored paintings of plants and the natural world. She has exhibited her work in New York at galleries such as Morgan Lehman and Regina Rex; at Pulse Miami Beach, and at Monya Rowe Gallery in Saint Augustine, FL where she had a solo exhibition in 2016.  Lincoln received her MFA in Painting from Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia, and a BA in Studio Art from the University of California, Davis.  She has participated in the Lower Manhattan Swing Space residency, the Inside Out Art Museum artist residency in Beijing as well as the Wave Hill Winter Workspace in NYC.  Her work has been reviewed in Hyperallergic, The New Criterion, Two Coats of Paint and The Brooklyn Rail. Brian met up with Amy at her studio in Glendale, Queens and they talked about critiques, kids, insomnia, swing dancing and a lot more.

Katie Bell is an artist born in Rockford, Illinois living and working in New York City. She recieved her BA from Knox College in Illinois and her MFA from the Rhode Island School of Design.

She has had solo shows at venues such as Okay Mountain Gallery in Austin, Texas, Backspace in Peoria, Illinois, Lipscomb University in Nashville, Mixed Greens in New York, the Brooklyn Academy of Music, Penn State, Drew Univeristy, Locust Projects in Miami among others.

Her group shows include Circuit 12 in Dallas, LVL3 in Chicago, Launch F18 in NYC, the Soho House in New York, Spring Break Art Show, Transmitter, Brooklyn, Rockford University, the Royal College of Art and many others.

Katie has received a NYFA Fellowship a Marie Walsh Sharpe Foundation Space and she has taught as a visiting critic at North Texas, RISD, Denison Univeristy, Knox College, and many other schools.

Her work has been covered in Art F City, Two Coats of Paint, Paper Magazine, Art News, Artinfo, Vulture, Maake Magazine and many other publications.

Brian stopped by Katie’s East Village studio and they spoke about her days growing up as a twin, endless renovations, art school, getting your foot in the door and dancing to bachata.

Hiba Schahbaz is a Brooklyn-based artist who trained in miniature painting at the National College of Arts in Lahore, Pakistan and received an MFA in Painting from Pratt Institute in New York City. In addition to exhibiting her work internationally in galleries and fairs including the Vienna Art Fair and Spring Break Art Show in NYC, Hiba has curated exhibitions of miniature paintings in Pakistan and India. She was an artist-in residence at the Vermont Studio Center and The Wassaic Project and has taught miniature painting as part of the Alfred Z. Solomon Residency at the Tang Museum. She is a artist instructor at the Art Students League of New York and is represented by Thierry Goldberg Gallery in NY.

She has an upcoming exhibition, “ Reclaimed Baggage” at the  Northern Illinois University Art Museum as well as several group exhibtions.

Brian stopped by Hiba’s studio in Bushwick and they spoke about her days making paintings in Pakistan, her time as a student at Pratt, music in the studio, finding quiet headspace and much more.

Nathan Ritterpusch was born in 1976 in Harrisburg Pennsylvania. Since graduating from the Maryland Institute College of Art in 1999, his work has been shown extensively in galleries throughout the US and Europe. Recent solo exhibitions include: Sue Ravitz 57West57 Arts, New York, Galerie Burkhard Eikelmann, (Dusseldorf, Germany); University of Nebraska (Lincoln, NE); and RARE Gallery (New York). He has held residencies at Dada Post in Berlin, Germany (2011), the Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts (2010) and Futura Projekts in Prague in the Czech Republic (2008). Nathan currently divides his time between New York and Connecticut 

Nathan’s solo show, Old Enough to be My Mother, is up now at Castor Gallery on Manhattan’s lower east side. Brian met up with Nathan there and they spoke about growing up in Pennsylvania, distortion in music and painting, narrative and representation and much more.

Her feature length documentary The Mark of Cain was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award and aired on Nightline. She went on to produce additional segments of Nightline as well as 7 segments for the PBS series LIFE 360. She has directed and produced two other feature length documentaries; Bayou Blue (made in collaboration with David McMahon) and Mentor. She is currently directing the feature length documentary, Goodbye, Fat Larry. She has directed numerous shorts and music videos including You As You Were for the band Shearwater on Sub Pop Records and the animated short, Tiffany.

She wrote Episode 6, season 3 of Deadwood: “A Rich Find” and was a staff writer and associate producer on John From Cinicinnati. She was also a writer on the video game Syndicate.

Alix co-founded and is co-artistic director of The Brooklyn International Theater Company (with Nelson George and Danny Simmons). She has conceived of and directed two original series for MOCAtv; Crime: The Animated Series and Ambiance Man. She recently produced a segments for This American Life, and Theory of Everything.

She received grants from the NEA, NYFA and The Roberts Foundation. Alix has received residencies and fellowships from: The MacDowell Colony, Headlands, The Studios of Key West, The McColl Center, The MIT Media Lab in Cambridge and was The Booth Tarkington Writer in Residence at Butler University for the 2014-15 school year. She is currently developing her original animated series Prison Zoo. She is also working on an upcoming graphic novel to be released on Hat & Beard Press based on her experiences in courtrooms and her sketches.
