If you live anywhere in North America it is extremely likely that you have heard of the brand Fresh Coat Painters. Today I’m so excited to bring you Tara Riley, who has been president of Fresh Coat since 2014.  With over 30 years of executive management and operations experience in franchising, Tara’s greatest success lies in creating profitable growth at every stop in her career. Leading teams in a variety of business models including home improvement and remodeling, Tara has experience working within global franchise icons such as McDonald’s as well as in much younger high-growth brands. Also experienced as a business owner, Tara understands the challenges and fears new business owners face and has a passion for helping franchisees push through to success. Today I’m so excited to talk with Tara about how to profitably grow and scale your sales at every phase of your business, as well as how she has been so successful as a woman in a male dominated environment.    Show Notes: [2:18] - Tara says that she is an “accidental tourist” of her career. She never had a plan for herself early on. [5:50] - No matter what you are doing, be willing to do your best. [7:20] - Tara has been in the franchising business since she was 15 years old. [9:40] - Through her experience, Tara’s biggest lesson was about capacity and efficiency. Volume is not infinite. [10:34] - One of the best learning experiences for her was hiring and developing talent. [11:42] - Nobody is intentionally trying to screw up. Mistakes happen, but it isn’t intentional. [15:04] - Start with what you want to take home from the business. Start with your personal goals. [16:08] - Start with your goals, but really think about what you want. [20:41] - Tara is the president of a company in a male-dominated industry. [22:12] - The focus is on solving problems and providing a service, which is not gender specific. [23:36] - There are real problems we have to overcome in society that limit us, but a lot of the time we also create our own limitations. [27:09] - What is the balance of time and money that is important to you? [28:03] - You are likely at a capacity ceiling if you believe that the only way you can earn more profit is to work harder. [30:24] - As a business owner, you need to value your time and work at the highest value. [33:01] - Tara shares one of the reasons we need to shift our mindset on hiring help. [34:20] - The fear in hiring someone is understandable, but if you don’t hire them, are you sacrificing quality of life? [37:01] - Do you have a business? Or do you have a job? [39:30] - For every business, there are inflection points. • 307 - How to Build a Superstar Brand on LinkedIn with Niraj Kapur
I was doing an audit recently of our most popular topics on the podcast, and I wasn’t surprised by the most popular topic - around mindset and abundance.  But right after that, our top rated shows were around lead generation, specifically on LinkedIn, and so today I want to bring you a true expert in that space.  After 23 years in London running sales teams. Niraj wanted to raise the standards of sales, so he wrote Everybody Works in Sales which became an Amazon international bestseller. He then set up his own sales coaching and training company to keep businesses accountable to help them achieve results. He’s delivered Linkedin Training and Sales Coaching to over 400 small businesses and solopreneurs. In May 2022, Niraj was announced as a Top Sales Influencer in the World to Follow by Salesforce. He's also a Top Linkedin Voice in Sales To Follow by LinkedIn.   Show Notes: [3:57] - Anyone can call themselves a LinkedIn expert, but Niraj is one of only ten that LinkedIn announced as a Top Sales Influencer on the platform. [5:13] - Niraj has spent his entire life in sales, but until 2020, he says he was a nobody. [6:44] - People give up and stop showing up consistently. [8:19] - Niraj had a decent business, but once Covid-19 caused lock downs, all of his clients canceled. He had to make fast changes. [10:20] - When you start something new, you have to remember that you are starting at the bottom. [12:43] - It is important to make yourself different and stand out. [14:39] - Niraj started sharing more about himself on a platform that hadn’t been known for that yet. [16:53] - Nobody is judging you as hard as you are judging yourself. [18:20] - It’s important to know what your competition is doing but not so you can do the same thing. [19:45] - Doing videos on LinkedIn is one of the best lead generation strategies. [22:27] - Consistency is key in any area of your life. [23:42] - Before you ever send any communication to someone, spend time looking at their content and make an intentional effort. [26:10] - Niraj admits how he felt about financial success and what happened to him and his marriage. [28:14] - Because of his personal development, Niraj didn’t let money be the most important thing. [30:58] - Niraj guides us through a writing exercise. [32:27] - Be consistent, vary your content, and leverage LinkedIn video and voice notes. [33:56] - Stand out through personalized voice notes. [36:08] - Niraj describes how he spends his time on LinkedIn and how long he spends on the platform. [39:52] - An abundance mindset is very important. The more you give in the world, the more you get back. [43:01] - Niraj shares common responses to giving out of the goodness of your heart. • 306 - Selling Into the C Suite with Cherilynn Castleman
Cherilynn Castleman has over 30 years experience as a Fortune 500 Global Sales Executive, and her mission is to see a million women of color sit at the table of their dreams by 2030. That table means the C Suite, Sales Leadership, the Sales Leader-board or the Entrepreneurs’ table. She’s helping to overcome the problems these women often face of access and financial fluency to get there.  Today we’re going to dive into her mission and how you can help support her, as well as just one of the many areas of her subject matter expertise, which is how to have the confidence to sell into the C Suite and how to carry those conversations powerfully and with authority.   Show Notes: [2:29] - Cherilynn has been in sales since before Girl Scout cookies were 50 cents a box. She shares her backstory and her love for talking to people. [3:51] - Out of 1800 CEOs of Fortune 500 companies, there was only one woman of color in the role. [6:18] - What is it like to be the only one in the room that is like you? Cherilynn shares some of her experiences on her journey. [8:16] - Be an upstander, not a bystander. [9:34] - You have to connect with your clients by immersing yourself in their world. [11:02] - Learn how to read annual reports. [11:53] - Ask the four F’s: first, finest, failure, future. These are the questions you can ask in a valuable client call. [14:36] - It’s amazing what results you can create when you ask these questions. [16:27] - Post things from your point of view. Pick topics that you post on regularly so you are seen as an expert. [18:43] - Cherilynn explains an activity called The Hundred List. [20:24] - If we believe the negative thoughts we have about ourselves and progress, they start to run the show. [22:07] - It’s important to share about your superpowers. But how can you do that without it sounding like you’re bragging? [24:49] - Write to your audience and to make it even better, think of a specific person or type of person and write it almost directly to them. [26:00] - Shout out to other people and let them know you see them. [27:40] - With a mission and a vision as large as Cherilynn, how does she overcome imposter syndrome and the overwhelming self doubt? [29:59] - Give your limiting belief a name. Check in on them. [32:05] - Think about your limiting belief and inner voice as a friend. [33:21] - To create a new habit, anchor it to an old one.   Connect with Cherilynn: Cherilynn Castleman Home Page Twitter  |  LinkedIn   Links and Resources: Instagram  |  LinkedIn  |  YouTube She Sells with Elyse Archer Home Page Abundance Mini Course Join the $10K Club Apply for the $50K Club Mastermind

  • 305 - How to Create Your Boldest Career with Christie Hunter Arscott
We live in a world today where change is the norm, and it may feel like you are constantly being asked to embrace uncertainty and take risks that feel uncomfortable or downright terrifying in order to achieve your goals and aspirations. I have always found that my biggest rewards in life have come from the biggest risks I’ve taken, but I also know how terrifying those moments can be, and can think of times in my life when I didn’t take a risk I felt called to take and later regretted it.  So today my guest is going to help us create a whole new mindset around risk and teach us how to make bold moves that help us grow and accomplish our dreams. Christie Hunter Arscott is a woman who walks her talk. What she is going to encourage you to think and do today is something she lives authentically every day. She’s also ALL about creating the most expansive career and life possible, both for herself and all of the clients she serves who work with her directly or read her book.  Christie is an award-winning advisor, speaker, and author of the book Begin Boldly: How Women Can Reimagine Risk, Embrace Uncertainty, and Launch A Brilliant Career. A Rhodes Scholar, Christie has been named by Thinkers50 as one of the top management thinkers likely to shape the future of business. Show Notes: [4:22] - We think about risk as something we need to minimize, which causes us to hold ourselves back. [6:07] - Christie noticed that the most successful people she admired thrived because of their hunger for risk. [7:42] - We’ve been conditioned to play it safe and while we shouldn’t go live recklessly, risk taking should be intentional. [9:45] - As women, we tend to try to avoid failure. [11:13] - The concept of evolving is what changed Christie’s outlook on taking risks. We are in a constant stage of experimentation. [12:20] - Risk, reward, refine, repeat. [14:03] - Failure is linked to a bold life and career. [16:10] - Christie shares the most life changing ah-ha moment she has ever had. [17:07] - Confidence is not the biggest indicator of success. The most successful women leaders don’t show up confident everyday. It’s not a prerequisite. [18:03] - Show up courageously. If we wait till we’re confident, we will never begin. [20:13] - Readiness isn’t a feeling. It is a decision. [21:06] - How you phrase things will either illicit action or inhibit action. [24:08] - Christie explains how we look at risks to decide which are the right ones to take. [25:04] - The risks or bold moves that are worth taking are the ones that have a motivation that matters. [27:31] - What is the reward? Ask what the reward is for risking, the reward for not risking, and the reward you want. [30:15] - What is the cost of inaction? • 304 - How to Get Unstuck and Create Your New Level with Diann Wingert
When the unexpected happens, it is either an opportunity for disappointment or creative problem solving. Which is exactly what this episode is! This is a completely different type of interview after the plans with today’s guest went completely awry. So instead, today’s guest is also a co-host who will be producing this conversation for her own podcast as well. Joining me is Diann Wingert, host of The Driven Woman Entrepreneur Podcast which is one of the top podcasts for female entrepreneurs. Our conversation today is all about how we have found ourselves completely stuck and how we were able to create the next level. Being stuck can mean so many different things to everyone and a lot of the time, getting unstuck is difficult, challenging, and sometimes even painful. If you have been a listener of the She Sells Radio Podcast, you know that although success appeared to happen overnight, it took years of being stuck to finally give myself the permission I needed to level up. Hear Diann’s story as well and how she got to the point where holding herself back was no longer an option.   Show Notes: [2:10] - Diann and Elyse have a lot of overlap in their audience. [3:31] - When the unexpected happens, it is either going to be an opportunity for disappointment or creative problem solving. [5:08] - Be intentional about your networking. [6:11] - Diann shares her background and the beginning of her career in sales. [7:08] - The coaching Diann offers is for people who are ready to let go of whatever is holding them back. [8:16] - It is undeniable that with the passage of time, opportunities for women dwindle. Diann created her own. [10:03] - Diann got sick of hearing her own excuses for why she can’t do something. [11:10] - Elyse shares the moment she asked herself, “What am I waiting for?” [14:13] - Eventually Elyse made a big decision, but didn’t tell anyone or ask for permission. [16:30] - Saying yes to yourself will feel like you are saying no to everyone else and also who you’ve been. [19:34] - Just because you have a thought doesn’t mean it is true. [21:06] - Diann shares the story of one of the major events that absolutely changed her life. [22:48] - It is important to hit the pause button to avoid making impulsive decisions. [25:01] - Humor helps manage your own mind. [26:15] - Diann recommends an affirmation app where you can record your own voice. [29:42] - People will hear the fast growth, but it’s important to know that there is more to the story than the appearance of overnight success. [31:06] - When someone is really ready to change, there is usually some sort of “jump ship” moment. [33:21] - Elyse’s most impactful work for transformation was the work on her identity. [36:45] - To actually stop being the person you’ve been and the person you’ve always thought of yourself as is tremendously challenging. [38:32] - A lot of women hold themselves back because of fear of envy and ambition shaming. [40:41] - Elyse has become very careful with who she shares things with. [42:04] - Diann internalized early criticism that impacted how she presented herself. But she eventually couldn’t hold back. [44:01] - A very tough but powerful level up is when you let go of people and relationships you have outgrown. [46:41] - Are you in a container that makes you feel like you have to shrink or is it one that you can expand into?   Connect with Diann: Diann Wingert Coaching The Driven Woman Entrepreneur Podcast   Links and Resources: Instagram  |  LinkedIn  |  YouTube She Sells with Elyse Archer Home Page Abundance Mini Course Join the $10K Club Apply for the $50K Club Mastermind

  • 303 - How to Get Amazing PR with Alessandra Pollina
Any time we have a conversation on the She Sells Radio podcast about PR, I get so many questions from the audience and feedback that this is something you want to know more about, so today I am SO excited to bring you a real expert on this topic, Alessandra Pollina. Alessandra Pollina is the founder and owner of Quotable Media Co., a PR agency and media company that celebrated 10 years in business in 2022. She attended Boston University’s College of Communication where she obtained a Bachelor of Science in Communications with a focus on public relations, and a minor in anthropology. Throughout her college years she held many internships in the PR field at some of the best agencies in Boston. This vast array of experiences became the foundation of her PR career and positioned her to launch her own company, a full-service boutique PR and marketing agency, in 2012 at just 23 years old.  She is also the founder of the Female Founders of Boston networking group which aims to bring like-minded entrepreneurs and business owners together, as well as Quotable: A Female Millennial Entrepreneur Podcast, inspired by the group but with an international reach, and Quotable Magazine, a print and online platform for expanding the visibility of female entrepreneurs. The podcast and magazine make up the media arm of her company, which also works to further boost female entrepreneurs through an annual launch grant and online PR education programs.   Show Notes: [3:20] - When you really stand behind the amazing work you do, it comes through in your outreach and media attention. [5:42] - Look at your social media presence and see which pieces are coming through. Is your personal brand showing up? [7:36] - The most important thing is to keep in mind why you started your business and why you care about what you do to begin with. [9:18] - If you don’t put yourself out there, what opportunities are other people going to miss out on if they don’t find you. [11:18] - Alessandra shares her experience in starting her business at 23. [15:31] - Limiting beliefs are very common in the beginning for a lot of women and are hard to overcome. Alessandra didn’t struggle as much because she was confident in her skills. [18:56] - Your income will never exceed your level of self worth. [20:10] - When starting her business, she didn’t know anyone else who was doing the same thing and struggled connecting with other entrepreneurs. [22:31] - Alessandra admits that she didn’t necessarily want to be the one to organize the things she couldn’t find, but she wanted and needed for them to exist. [24:05] - There should be more platforms for women to tell their stories. [26:18] - The media and the way we communicate is changing. What are some of the commonalities of Alessandra’s clients that are making the most impact? [27:56] - Look at things through different lenses as the media changes. [29:54] - Where are all the places your audience may be? [30:40] - Starting small is a good idea. [33:20] - Hearing a “no” is not forever. It doesn’t mean you can never pitch something again in the future. [34:15] - Alessandra describes the magazine that she runs and shares the opportunities to submit articles or apply to be interviewed. [37:14] - Alessandra also offers an online course and a PR bootcamp. [39:40] - She is the one behind all the social media posts and contacts at Quotable Media Co. and she shares all the different ways to reach her.   Connect with Alessandra: Quotable Media Co.
