Faith Hedgepeth, a 19-year-old UNC-Chapel Hill student, was found beaten to death in her apartment on September 7, 2012, after a night out with friends. Police discovered she had been bludgeoned with an empty rum bottle, sexually assaulted, and then partially wrapped in a comforter in her bedroom. DNA and other forensic evidence, along with a strange handwritten note left at the scene, propelled a years-long investigation that drew national attention.
