Most women walk into the hospital thinking birth is just something that happens to them — but the truth is, there are decisions being made at every step. And many of them are presented as routine, when they’re actually optional.
In this episode, I’m walking you through the five most common interventions used in hospital births — continuous monitoring, cervical checks, inductions, epidurals, and artificial rupture of membranes — and helping you understand what they are, why they’re so often used, and how they can quietly lead to more interventions, even surgery.
I’ve seen firsthand how the cascade of interventions plays out… and how avoidable it often is. This isn’t about being anti-medicine. It’s about being informed. About knowing that you have the right to ask questions, to understand what’s being offered, and to say no when it doesn’t align with what’s best for you and your baby.
If you’re planning a hospital birth and want to stay as low-intervention as possible — or just want to understand your options before you get there — this one’s for you.
