Therapy.
It’s a major word in our culture. What comes to mind when you hear the word therapy?
Lying on a couch talking about your childhood?
Medication?
How about “Lifelong Client?”
On today’s episode of The Be Ruthless Show, I discuss therapy vs. coaching. I discuss the impact of letting a word stand in your way of receiving the support and resources to make life more manageable. And I discuss the ripple effects these decisions have on your friends, loved ones, and even careers.

Grief comes in all different shapes and sizes. My definition of grief is an ending of some kind. This definition encompasses so much more than the end of life.
There are actually different kinds of grief, and one that is not talked about enough is Ambiguous Grief. To simplify - these are the not so obvious (ie ambiguous) losses.
Today’s guest on The Be Ruthless Show, Faces of Grief Author Connie Mae Inglis, shares her story of ambiguous grief.
Connie is an award-winning author, editor, speaker, and teacher. She also hosts her own podcast, "Born on a Bridge," — a podcast which focuses on building bridges of understanding and making relational connections. Her mission in her podcast and future memoir is to connect the world that knows nothing about, and often fears, mental illness, to the world of mental illness as she has lived it as a caregiver to an adult child diagnosed with bipolar disorder. She wants the world to know that in the midst of the pain and heartache, there is hope.
Connie and her husband have lived
cross-culturally in Southeast Asia for the last 30+ years, dedicating their lives to working with minority language groups in Bible translation, literacy, and teaching.
Connie's greatest joy is found in her grandchildren. They fill her with love and laughter and lead her into the wonder of life. Always.
If she's not spending time with family, you can find Connie painting or hiking or camping or, if she's lucky, traveling to places she's never been, always with pen and paper in hand. Ever curious, she knows inspiration for her next poem, story, or novel could be right around the corner.

Do you schedule things in advance? Do you live by your calendar? Or are you someone who puts things off? Maybe you “perform better under pressure?”
On today’s episode of The Be Ruthless Show, I discuss when it’s ok, when it’s necessary, and when it’s problematic to put things off.
Whether it’s homework or a conversation, your decision impacts more than just you!

Some families come together during traumatic times, and others drift apart.
We all handle things differently in the best of times.
During traumatic times, these differences can feel even bigger. The families that have the conversations - the uncomfortable conversations - learn how to navigate the unclear healing paths ahead.
Together.
Sisters Molly Cohen & Leslie Rott lost their father unexpectedly almost ten years ago. They had the conversations - and continue to have the conversations, and heal, together.
On today’s episode of The Be Ruthless Show, Molly and Leslie share their story of loss and their different paths towards healing. Respecting those differences led them to heal through writing, again together, in a co written / co authored chapter in Faces of Grief (available this December!)
Connect with them both on social media and meet them in person at Pilates in the Park this August, and Healing Together Through the Holidays this December.

I always talk about the invisibles. The invisible populations, the invisible awareness dates.
The invisible symptoms.
It’s difficult enough going through something invisible - it might impact your sleep or appetite. Maybe your mood or your ability to concentrate.
On today’s episode of The Be Ruthless Show, I discuss why it’s so important to have certain people involved when working with the invisibles.
I discuss different levels of involvement, ranging from absent to enmeshed, and I discuss your role in making this happen in the event professionals aren’t reaching out to you.

How many accidents do you pass when you’re driving? My parents will tell you stories of me traumatized as a little girl. Asking questions hours after seeing accidents. Wanting to know if everyone was ok.
I’m still that same little girl when I see any accident. It doesn’t matter whether or not I know the people. It stays with me.
SO many people have lost loved ones in tragic accidents. Today’s guests on The Be Ruthless Show, Jennifer & Jeff Forlastro, lost their son in a motorcycle accident and have created their foundation, Gears in Heaven, in Brandon’s honor.
Gears in Heaven is a 501c3 non-profit organization comprised of dedicated, compassionate volunteers and generous donors, missioned to offer comfort and support to the families of motorsport enthusiasts who are killed or seriously injured in a vehicle accident.

I’ve always been confused by some of the things we’re conditioned to believe. Ya know, the girls can’t do this and only boys can do that kind of things.
It’s Men’s Mental Health (Awareness) Month. And Men’s Mental Health (Awareness) Week.
Necessary? Absolutely!
On today’s episode of The Be Ruthless Show, I discuss why all mental health awareness days matter. I discuss why having the conversations matter - and more importantly, why not having them matters more.

The S Word. Suicide. If mental health has a stigma, suicide is in a world of its own.
There’s less support - when there should be more. We heal together. We heal through having the conversations.
Today’s guest on The Be Ruthless Show cared about helping others long before she really understood how much it would truly come to mean to her.
Jen Allen is the CEO of Front Range Family Resource Center, a counseling clinic, in Wheat Ridge, Colorado. Prior to this, she was a registered nurse and spent most of her nursing career in inner city emergency departments. Shortly after obtaining her Master's degree in pursuit of a Nurse Practitioner career, she lost her son to a very unexpected suicide. This tragic experience led Jen in a whole new direction in life and in her career.
Mental health and becoming a support to families who have lost loved ones to suicide became her focus and her mission.
Jen is also the wife of Jeremy, an Air Force Veteran and psychotherapist. They have been married for almost 28 years and raised two of the most amazing children, Kaitlyn and Daniel. They also have a bonus daughter, Cassie and two beautiful bonus grand babies, Colt and Sawyer. Jen spends her free time on the sunny beaches of Florida with her husband and with her four dogs, Roxy, Frasier, Gromit, and Morty.
Connect with Jen on instagram at @ninjanursejen and read her chapter in Faces of Grief, available this December!

How is it already June? Did you know that June is Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness Month? National PTSD Month? Men’s Health Month?
It’s also Beautiful in Your Skin Month, which celebrates the unique beauty of each person's skin. It's a time to embrace individuality, foster self-love, and boost confidence.
On today’s episode of The Be Ruthless Show, I discuss insecurities. I discuss what to do when you don’t feel beautiful in your skin. Because it’s another lesson we need to be taught in schools - but we’re not!

Addiction. Recovery. Words many are ashamed of and won’t even discuss. Even those with years, even decades, of sobriety. Not today’s guest on The Be Ruthless Show. Racquet Garcia shares her story of addiction and recovery with pride. It’s her “badge of honor.”
Racquel Garcia is a passionate advocate for change, working tirelessly to destigmatize and educate on the challenges of overcoming substance misuse and systemic and familial obstacles. She is deeply committed to advocating for underserved populations, particularly on the issues of racial equity, the power of peer coaching, and criminal justice reform.
Racquel is the owner & Chief Innovation Officer of HardBeauty and serves as the Executive Director of the HardBeauty Foundation. Her foundation is the first and only peer-led organization in Douglas County, Colorado, offering hybrid coaching and programming that serves the entire state.
Racquel's educational background includes an Associates Degree in Addiction Counseling from ICDC College. She is also a National Certified Peer Recovery Specialist with NAADAC and possesses qualifications as an ARISE Interventionist, Subject Matter Expert and Training Facilitator for Opioid Response Network, working at the national level on behalf of SAMSHA. March of 2023, Racquel began a 2-year term on the Colorado Opioid Abatement Council. Her appointment by the Attorney General highlights her expertise in the field. She serves as a member of the Behavioral Health Administration Advisory Council (BHACC). In this capacity, she collaborates to create a people-first behavioral health system in Colorado.
Racquel's involvement extends nationally as the Vice-Chair of the National Naloxone Project, where she is a leader in MOMs+. Her contributions have made her a powerful influencer, particularly with the "Tough As A Mother Stronger Than Addiction" campaign, which acknowledges her impactful work with mothers in Colorado and across the nation.
Racquel will be speaking at Visible in August and she’s also part of the 2nd annual Healing Together Through the Holidays this December - because addiction, recovery, loss, and grief are all connected - and all need to be discussed more!
