We've got something a little different for you on this week's episode of The Race IndyCar Podcast, as hosts Jack Benyon and JR Hildebrand are joined by former F1 and CART ace Mark Blundell to reminisce on one of the all-time great open-wheel races in North America: The 1997 Grand Prix of Portland.
Long-term fans might remember that Blundell won that race by just 0.027s from Gil de Ferran, with Raul Boesel just 0.055s back in one of the series' closest and most dramatic finishes.
On this episode Blundell tells Jack and JR about how he was able to emerge victorious in the wet-dry race, where the win ranks on his all-time list, and why he cherishes the time he spent racing for PacWest in the United States.
He also describes what it was like to race the fearsome CART machines of the day on ovals - without the use of a spotter!
Jack and JR also look ahead to this coming weekend's penultimate round of the 2022 championship in Portland, and whether Ganassi or Penske will steal a march in the title race.
