Last week, the Australian Bureau of Statistics revealed the annual inflation rate is at its lowest level in four years.

It has triggered many economists to predict there will be a cut to the interest rate next week when the Reserve Bank of Australia meets.

During the federal election, Labor said one of their first duties if elected, would be to implement a cut to HECS and HELP debts by 20%.

The Federal Government has confirmed that YouTube will be included in its social media ban for children under 16.

The video streaming platform was originally going to be exempt from the ban, but – following mounting pressure from Australia’s eSafety commissioner – the Government has changed its mind.

The move has drawn criticism from the Opposition, while YouTube's parent company, Google, is reportedly considering legal action against the Australian Government over the inclusion.

Former Nationals leader Barnaby Joyce has this week introduced a bill to scrap Australia's legal commitment to reach net zero emissions by 2050. And that move has exposed deep divisions within the Coalition over their climate policy.

No illegal substances were discovered in more than 86% of strip searches conducted by NSW Police over the last decade. That’s according to a new report by the Redfern Legal Centre, which analysed data from thousands of searches between 2014 and 2023.

It comes amid an ongoing legal battle in the state, where a class action alleging unlawful strip searches by NSW Police is continuing in the Supreme Court.
