  • 15. Part 2: Choosing love over fear in the face of a pandemic. There is no right way…………..

Talking about our reactions to what is going on in the world today and how self compassion is the most important thing we can practice right now. We need to honor where we are at and how we are processing our feelings right now. We cannot change the circumstance we are facing right now and this is a great opportunity to dig deep and do some healing.

  • 14. Choosing love over fear in the face of a pandemic

This week I am addressing the thing on everyone’s mind, COVID-19. Things are developing quickly and changing minute by minute. There is a lot of uncertainty in the world and our dance community. I am sharing my thoughts on how I am choosing love over fear in this time. I am also continuing to be an example for my students, while also offering them a safe place to express what is coming up for them. Staying informed has really helped me. I have also leaned heavily on my faith and meditation practice to ground me so that I am taking appropriate action from a clear mind.

  • 13. Living In The Now

In today’s episode, I am discussing what it means to live in the present moment. Discussing how perpetuating stories from the past programs our future to look like what we’ve always gotten.  And giving my thoughts on how to bring this concept to our students so that they can start to create the futures they want.

  • 12. The 'ideal" body

This week I was very inspired by a quote I read online about challenging the concept of the “ideal” body for dance. Today I dive in on why that concept is outdated and how I work with my students to understand that they bring so much to the art of dance purely by being them. I value diversity in every way in my classroom and we need to challenge our preconceived ideas so that we can help dance evolve with our changing world.

  • 11. Can stress actually be a good thing?

In today’s episode I am talking about a topic requested by students; Stress! I had a love hate relationship with stress for most of my life but at the urging of my therapist I looked into the work of Kelly McGonigal. McGonigal is a health psychologist and lecturer at Stanford University who is known for her work in the field of 'science help' which focuses on translating insights from psychology and neuroscience into practical strategies that support health and well-being. I watched her TED talk a few years ago and it definitely had a huge impact on the way I view stress and can even see the benefits of it when I view it through a different right lens.

  • 10. Awareness, acceptance and change!

Episode 10! In this week's episode, I am talking about the two most important concepts I teach my students: awareness and acceptance. To make a change and move forward in anything in our lives, we first need to be aware of where we are at currently and accept everything about this moment if we want to create something new in the future.

  • 9. My journey with Perfectionism

On today’s episode I am diving deep on Perfectionism. I get super personal about my journey with Perfectionism and how the work of Brené Brown helped me to realize that my need to always get it right and the constant voice in my head telling me to be better were not serving me.

  • 8. Emotional Agility

This week we are talking about the concept of emotional agility. After listening to an interview with Dr. Susan David on this topic I realized how much it ties in to the conversations we have been having around values, purpose and accessing authentic emotion. I discuss how her idea of walking your why is so crucial in combating social contagion and explore the benefits to coaching our students to be less rigid in their dance lives.

  • 7. 100% Responsibility

In today’s episode I talk about the concept of 100% responsibility. We are completely responsible for every experience we have in our lives. Teaching my students that they have the ability to make any moment exactly what they want it to be empowers them more than any other lesson that I teach.
