Beach Pace is a former Bomb Squad Executive Officer and Commander within the Ordinance Branch of the US Army, CEO of Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Columbia, and Hillsboro City Councillor. Beach has demonstrated that it's ok to go beyond the expectations traditionally set by society; that it's possible to go bigger and higher than one might think is possible, especially when engaged in the service of others.

• All of us typically go into the workforce, and one day we go through a process of becoming something other than what we hoped. It's almost like we're laundering ourselves, and we wake up as somebody doing not what we intended to do as a child, not what we dreamt of doing as a child, but what we're "supposed" to do.
• Beach explains that it's easy to get stuck in "the system," with expectations placed upon us not just from school but also from society. Something she's felt like as a lesbian, and knowing as you grow up that you're different from what people expect as standard.
• There's societal pressure to succeed, but Beach can't recall anyone ever asking her or other children, for that matter, what makes them happy or what excites them?
• Adults must have deeper conversations with their children to help them understand what they are passionate about and what fuels their excitement. Then, rather than just working their butts off to support children, they can understand how to help set them up to succeed.
• David shares that people who stay closely connected to the person they were as a child tend to be happier have successes, and know without question what makes them happy.
• Beach recalls her insatiable curiosity as a child — the desire to increase her understanding continually.
• Beach shares about her time in the military and attending the academy. Everything they do there is to train them to become ethical and trustworthy leaders. Looking back, Beach understands that so much of what she learned during her experience in the military has helped shape the leader that she is today, from boardrooms to her seat on the city council.
• Bad leaders can pull an entire organization down — they can be so harmful to a team that it's difficult for Beach to watch, especially because she knows there is an alternative. But, better leadership is always possible.
• If you're looking for somebody who will be a leader, especially in politics, it's essential to see a history of service outside of politics.
• Beach shares that she grows most when she talks to folks who, on paper, she's opposed to. She thrives when she is pushed and takes a moment to think. Respectful discourse and collaboration are vital to moving forward and progressing in society.

• Everyone wants to increase their client count and decrease client churn but often focus their attention in the wrong direction.
• Peter Drucker once taught that there are only three ways to grow a business. You either have to get more clients, or have to get existing clients to buy more often, or you have to get your clients to pay more or spend more during each opportunity.
• Today it is optional to waste money on advertising. There's enough science and analytics out there that you really can refine your approach, if you take the time to learn the necessary platforms. 
• It's important to really take the time to get to know your ideal target audience. Do you know why your top 10% of customers are so in love with you? Do you know whe they spend twice or three times or fives times as much as your other customers or clients?
• You want client satisfaction, not customer satisfaction. A customer is somebody who transacts in the short-term. There is no relationship. In order to build a business off of customerss you need boat loads of dealers
• There's a great saying in business. "You'd rather apologize for price one rather then apologize for poor service."
• Providing a personalized service for each customer is an integral part of David's success.

In this episode of The David Spisak show, David explores a topic that is critically important to anybody who has ever felt like there is more within them to explore. • Most people are often stuck between two states: Doing everything we can to be grateful and live in the moment, or dissatisfied, disappointed, and feeling unhappy.
• The very fact that we know that we have more within us, that there's more we could accomplish that we could be earning more money, getting paid more money, getting a greater level of acknowledgment, recognition, and accolades.
• If you feel like that, you're in a really large club, it may be one of the least exclusive in the world, and David is a part of it!
• What we get done, and what we accomplish in life are typically greatly driven by our skills., our personality traits, and our attributes.
• We have all gone pretty much as far as we can go with what we currently have in our repertoire, And so if we want to be able to do more, we have to be able to be more.
• In order to go to the next level in life (whatever that means to you), it's important to acquire all of the knowledge required to support your efforts in elevating yourself.
• The people in your world are wrong to not bet on you, but the greater tragedy is if you don't bet on yourself because at the end of the day it doesn't matter if other people bet on us or not.
• It is your own mind. It is your mental state. It is your conviction. It is your belief. It is your drive. It is your passion. It's your focus. It's all in your hands. But let's face it. You cannot go out and fully leverage something. If you don't even know what you have, think about a sports team when they do a coaching change.
• What's the first thing that a new general manager or a new coach does. Yes. They take inventory of the team. They take inventory of all of the pieces of the team from the front office. To the people on the floor, to the people on the field, and based on what they see over a period of time, they are going to make prescriptive moves in order to be able to achieve a specific outcome.
• No coach in their right mind is going to walk in on day one and say, okay, here's everything I want to do. Here's the new playbook? Who is someone going to trade here's? Who I'm going to bring on as a free. That plan would never work, but they also know until they run, unless they fully did an assessment of the talent, they may never find out that that kid sitting at the end of the bench for the last two years was a superstar in the making.
• They may never have found out that the kid that does a very average score turns out to be the best leader on the floor that he or she has ever seen. You are that team, your attributes are the members of that team, your skillset, and your personality traits are the members of that team. You are the coach, you are the general manager, and like that GM and that coach, you should take inventory of yourself.
• If you take action on what you find with full commitment and consistency, you're unstoppable.

• One person's hell is another person's heaven. David believes that each of us has something innate in us that allows us to create something.

In this episode of the David Spisak Show, David breaks the myth about trading time for money. If you're working for someone else, in some way, you're trading time for money.

What David shares in this episode:

• When we work for someone else, we typically trade our time for a paycheck. Once the paycheck is received, we typically trade that money for something of less value.
• We trade our money for food, utilities, a new phone or an outfit. Whatever it is that we purchase is going to be consumed OR it will be something acquired that is still consumable of a different nature.
• If you think about the mouth behind it, it's easy to understand that people who work for someone else have the challenge of becoming wealthy. It's not impossible, but it's a little more difficult, as Robert Kiyosaki suggests.
• How are we able to leverage what we've accomplished in the past to create a future that is significantly better?
• There are some people who bounce from job to job and all they are doing is trading their time for money. Those individuals are always relying on someone else to eat. It's a never-ending cycle.
• It seems like the more you make, the more you spend.
• It's not about what you make, it's about what you keep. That sounds great on paper, but there is some complexity to that statement because until you're able to cover the baseline of your expenses, it's difficult to break out of that cycle.
• Here's the great news: You don't have to trade time for money!
• It is our performance that dictates how much we make. There is no ceiling.

• Grant started by selling material to car dealers throughout the United States. It took him three years to make any money and for dealers to start catching on to his concepts. • For twenty years, Grant took all the money from his day job and was pouring it into Real Estate. Four years ago, he started talking about it after he had 4000 apartments.
• People couldn't understand how a training salesman could afford a plane. They thought it was all coming from book sales. In reality, it was the cash flow that was coming from his real estate investments.
• Most people want to stay in the box and trade time for money. Most people make it worse by making it worse by trading their money for something of lesser value.
• The median average savings in America is $3500, while most Americans do not have $400 in a bank account in case of an emergency.
• We're not financially illiterate, we've been misinformed by the institutions so that they benefit.
• With assets like real estate, you get to produce cash flow into perpetuity without any fees whereas when transactions occur with an institution they benefit from the fees.
• Grant recalls an experience as a child when his father gave him a quarter that he accidentally lost in a manhole walking down the street. His father exclaimed, "NEVER PLAY WITH MONEY!" In contrast, Grant's grandfather who came from Italy with nothing, who made something of himself and who always carried stacks of cash pulled Grant aside and said, "I'm going to give you another way to look at this: Never go anywhere with just a quarter."
• That one experience helped shift Grant's entire perspective on money and how to utilize it to get what you want. Money is a tool, and it should be viewed as such.
• Grant is extremely disciplined with money because of his mother's influence. When Grant's father died, it was up to his mother to safeguard whatever they could earn because she didn't have the skills required to provide for the family.
• The middle class is poor people who think they are rich.
• Convert your cash into an asset that drips more cash. Grant only lives off the drip and goes to work every day to resupply the asset.

Michael Mina is an award-winning restaurateur and celebrity chef, and author of several cookbooks. His restaurant management company, Mina Group, operates over 40 restaurants around the world.

What we discuss in this episode:

• Chef Mina was born in Cairo, Egypt and due to religious beliefs and a heavy-handed government, his family immigrated to Washington state in 1970.
• As a child, Chef Mina recognized that his dominant traits have stuck with him into adulthood which has helped shape who he is today.
• Michael recalls the relationship with his older brother, who exhibited a tremendous amount of awareness of what was going on around him. Today, Chef Mina can see how that influence in his life has helped him group the Mina Group to be as successful as it is today.
• Opening multiple restaurants as a chef are much different than being an entrepreneur who opens a restaurant. The media is historically more critical of a chef-restaurateur because they can only be in one restaurant at a time. Chef Mina is competitive and was up to the challenge and the risk has paid off.
• Part of growth is failing and learning. Too many people want to just leap to the top tier of success instead of taking the necessary learning steps that provide the strength and fortitude to remain at the top.
• Most of the time, celebrity chefs absorb all of the credit for what makes them successful. A key difference with Chef Mina is that he'd rather have the people who complete the work get the credit. Being a traditional celebrity chef is not part of his vision — it was to focus on the restaurants.
• The most gratifying part of his success today is found in the partnerships.
• For those that want to open their own restaurant, you must be honest with yourself. You have to be willing to look at yourself each day and find ways to improve.
• One of the biggest traps, when you look at restaurants, is they are always underfinanced. Traditionally, restaurants are under-financed by having the right team of people to open the restaurant successfully.
• People matter.

Many people go through life wondering "what if" or "had I only." They are filled with regret for not accomplishing the many things they aspired to achieve. In this episode of The David Spisak Show, David shares some stories from his past that led him to the one true metric that really matters: Happiness.

Listen carefully as David explains how tapping into what makes you uncommon is the framework for true happiness, fulfillment, and monetary gain.

What David shares in this episode:

• The more successful one becomes, the more interested the public at large is in who they are, what they wear, where they live, and who they're dating.
• David is interested in how they got to be where they are.
• David recalls his childhood and enduring difficult circumstances early on in life. He was blessed with an extraordinary mother who shouldered much of the load for David and his siblings.
• For that darkness, David cultivated a sense of humor in which he learned quickly that making others feel joy brought him joy. Humor allowed him to escape his circumstances within his brain.
• As David grew up, he was anything but uncommon. He wasn't a very good athlete. Academically, "I had a brain but my academics or performance wouldn't have reflected that."
• After getting married, David learned that he was good at sales. He had a dedication to out-work others on account of wanting to out-perform someone — anyone for once in his life.
• It turned out that it worked out. By age 26, David was already earning $150,000 in 1986.
• On all accounts, David and his young family were living the dream. However, a great income and a great job still left David feeling unfulfilled. The piece that was missing was his childhood love of being on stage behind a mic bringing joy to others.
• With barely enough money to pay a few months' worths of bills, David quit his job and began doing what he loved to do. For the first time, he was living a congruent life.
• His first attempt to sell training didn't go well. An abrupt "no" led to a conversation with an industry-leading coach/consultant who gave David anything but encouragement to proceed.
• After some disappointing advice from someone who was doing great within the training and coaching industry, David was not deterred. If anything, it motivated him to push harder.
• You cannot let what other people say dictate outcomes in your life.
• A setback is a setup for a comeback.
• As a result of diligently pursuing his dream, David was able to secure jobs training dealerships across the country, which eventually led to being a host on the Automotive Satellite Training network — where he met Grant Cardone for the first time.
• While he enjoyed working with the network and expanding his reach, David began to realize how much he missed all the things he was missing out on at home. Time with his kids, special events, and occasions left him with a void feeling.
• Each step that David took that brought him closer and more clearly toward his definition of success, the money tended to follow. Why? Because it wasn't about the money. It was about pursuing a course that brought him happiness and fulfillment.
• He was offered a job at a Mercedes-Benz dealership of which he would eventually become the owner, and President.
• Under his leadership, David helped that store go from earning just over $1million per year to making $25 million per year and becoming the most profitable dealership in the history of the car business.
• David explains that none of that would have happened if he didn't walk away from the first job.
• It wouldn't have happened if he wasn't doing staying true to the very fabric that made him uncommon.
• Everything started with David discovering what was uncommon about himself so that he could have an uncommon path, and uncommon journey
