In this episode of the Essential Geopolitics podcast from Stratfor, a RANE company, the conversation turns to the country of Georgia. Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili visited Brussels recently, meeting with European and NATO officials to discuss progress on Georgia's inclusion in both organizations.
Georgia sits at a crossroads, both physically and metaphorically, at the pivot point between three historic empires - Russia, Iran and Turkey. It is increasingly drawing attention from the more distant Europe, the United States and China as it pursues a quest to become an integrated member of Europe, something that Russia has long sought to resist. Stratfor’s Senior VP of Strategic Analysis, Rodger Baker, spoke with Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili during her visit to Brussels.

In this episode of the Essential Geopolitics podcast from RANE, Emily Donahue speaks with RANE's Senior global Security analyst, Ben West about new concerns that organized groups and individuals could turn their government frustrations on less prepared state and municipal buildings.
Joe Biden became US president on January 20. He went right to work, as he put it, dealing with the many crises facing the US. As he noted in his inaugural speech, citizens should put aside an "uncivil war" pitting Americans against each other. That's a long-term job - and one that identifies long-term threats so recently on display in the riot at the US Capitol.

In this episode of the Essential Geopolitics podcast from RANE, Emily Donahue speaks with Matthew Bey, RANE's Senior Global analyst. In the wake of the attacks on the U.S. Capitol building, President Trump has been banned either temporarily or indefinitely on several social media sites. Meanwhile, Parler, a popular social media platform for right wing groups and Trump supporters, was blocked from Google, Apple and Amazon app stores. Although Democrats have supported those bans, there are first amendment concerns -- and about the power that large U.S. tech firms have consolidated.
The New York Stock Exchange halted trading of three Chinese telecom companies on January 11. American investors will no longer be able to invest in these companies after November 11, 2021.
This follows an Executive Order last November, that said U.S. companies investing in Chinese companies are indirectly funding the Chinese military.
Also in January, the Trump administration added the Chinese National Offshore Oil Corporation - CNOOC - to a U.S. Pentagon list of companies that are either owned by or controlled by the Chinese military. That will force certain U.S. investors to divest there as well.
In response, as Barron's reported. China has issued its own directive "to prevent the U.S. and other foreign governments from adopting unilateral sanctions or applying them against Chinese entities and individuals."
On Wall Street, there’s plenty of consternation about what comes next. That’s why RANE founder, David Lawrence, gathered a panel of RANE network experts to discuss best practices. In this episode of the the Essential Geopolitics podcast from RANE, Emily Donahue hears from Sam Lichtenstein a global security analyst with RANE. The events at the US Capitol the first week of January, 2021 stunned lawmakers, the U.S. public and allies and both allies and opponents around the globe. In this Essential Geopolitics podcast from RANE, Emily Donahue gets a rundown from global security analyst, Thomas Abi-Hanna, on the top terror threats RANE is monitoring in 2021. On the list are the usual suspects, including Al Qaeda and ISIS, however, Abi-Hanna warns that a greater threat to the west is the far-right ideological extremist. Violence by these types of groups and individuals, including anti-government extremists, pose a more direct security risk to the West than any jihadist groups.
