Today’s episode is the first in a series I’m going to be doing around body image. There’s so much to cover in this space and I want what I’m sharing to feel really doable instead of overwhelming. So I’m going to focus on one specific idea/skill per episode.
Let’s talk about getting dressed.
In our new post pandemic, work from home, athleisure dominated world, getting dressed has taken on a new meaning.
There is a huge difference between throwing on leggings and a sweatshirt and putting together an outfit. And this doesn’t mean you have to be a stylist, but it may mean going outside your (literal and figurative) comfort zone and getting yourself off autopilot when you choose your clothes everyday.
Because what we wear has a HUGE impact on how we feel about our bodies.
I share some big changes I’ve personally made and the impact it has had on how I am feeling in my own skin.

Today, on this Monday after a long holiday weekend full of eating, traveling, no school, different work schedules, visitors and just general chaos, I’m talking about how to feel like yourself again without feeling the urge to “get back on track.”
We tend to swing from one extreme to the other, really struggling to settle somewhere in the middle. And today’s podcast gives you a really clear way on how to do just that.
I dive into our all or nothing mindset, offer a simple way to get clinical about the significance of small changes and how to know if what you’re doing actually counts.

Today I’m talking with my very close friend, strength coach and yoga teacher Gina Wright.
This episode is kind of us just having a conversation with each other and then sharing it with all of you to listen, so expect a lot of laughing and fun tangents.
Within that we have an amazing conversation around why strength training for women is non negotiable, how to get started if you feel intimidated and overwhelmed and what lifting heavy actually means (its not what you think).
Gina is also an expert in fitness for women going through the various stages of menopause and she shares some really valuable tips to help you feel better in your body while going through this emotionally and physically taxing time.
One of the most important topics we talk through is how individualized our needs are when it comes to exercise and strength training because of your history, lifestyle and preferences. Yes, there are guidelines, but within that there is the possibility for SO many options to make it work for you in the best way possible.
And of course you can’t talk strength training without talking protein. We share some really simple guidelines to give you a starting point to get more protein into your diet.

Today is Monday November 14 which means we are in full on holiday season mode.
So I wanted to talk through some very specific skills you can draw from over the next 6-8 weeks so you can feel like yourself in January and not diving into another juice cleanse.
Real talk, this time of year may not be the best time to start something totally brand new in terms of change around food and exercise. But that doesn’t mean we do nothing nor does it mean that we say screw it, eat anything and everything and tell ourselves we’ll deal with it in January.
The skills I’m sharing are small and totally doable without requiring a lot of energy or effort. And the best part is you only need to choose ONE to make a difference.
I share a lot about the scarcity we feel around holiday foods, how to deal with leftovers and what to do when you overeat.
Ultimately this is about the fact that the small stuff matters. The tiny stuff matters. Because something, no matter how small it is, always adds up to something bigger. But nothing adds up to nothing.
I created a free resource for you that goes right along with this episode called Nourishing Notes. 30 days of free super short and simple emails so you can feel supported and connected during the overwhelm of the holiday season.

Today’s episode may feel a little controversial and unexpected because I’m talking about calories.
And to be honest, I’ve been afraid to talk about this. Because we automatically label anything to do with calories as “bad” or as promoting diet culture.
But it’s just not that simple. Because calories are about science. Our bodies were designed to require calories to survive.
The issue is the meaning and emotion we’ve assigned to them that becomes the problem.
So today I’m talking about what calories are, why and when they matter, why and when they don’t matter and why we are so obsessed with them.
Because ultimately this about helping you rediscover your autonomy. Giving you the knowledge you need to make informed, thoughtful, intentional choices around your body.
So today’s episode gives some simple education around what calories are as well as some skills around how to shift the intense emotions we have around them.
If thinking or talking about calories has been triggering for you in the past, I totally get it. You may want to skip this episode….and you may also want to listen so you can begin learning how to shift the power calories have over you.
Here’s what I’m diving into today:
Also join us for Nourishing Notes. 30 days of free short and simple morning emails to help you feel healthy, calm and well fed throughout the chaos of the holiday season.

Today is episode 100!!
It is a pretty cool milestone and first and foremost I want to say thank you for listening. For your support. For sharing with your friends and family. Truly, I do not take it for granted that you take time out of your week to listen to what I am sharing.
First I’m talking through a big change coming in 2023 based on the direction that I’m taking the podcast (all good stuff!)
And then I dive into where I see the podcast going. How my perspective has evolved over time and what is at the core of the way I approach coaching.
Which is about autonomy and knowing your why.
So I dive in to what autonomy means in the context of body image, eating and weight as well as how to know what your why is. And I also introduce a new framework I’ve been thinking about that helps tie this all together.

Today’s episode of The Movement Diaries brings back my first repeat guest, movement teacher and dear friend, Erica Webb.
What’s even cooler about this is that Erica and I have known each other for nearly 3 years online and we recorded this episode one week before finally meeting in person in LA at a business conference.
Erica is truly one of the most important people in my life, not just as a friend but because of the work she does, how she shows up in the world and the way she leads through her actions.
Erica’s approach to movement is centered around self kindness. Understanding how exercise can become a tool for how we treat ourselves….not just because movement is good for us, but because self kindness is at the core of humanity.
As always, the conversation is candid and truthful and we cover so many important topics including:
➡️The most transformative type of exercise
➡️Why we struggle with shame
➡️The difference between our internal and external selves
➡️Why before and after photos are not a truthful representation of reality

This is one of those episodes where something happens and I need to talk about it IMMEDIATELY. Like an emergency podcast, but in a good way.
I dropped everything to record this because the thoughts came to me and felt so urgent to discuss.
And here’s what it's about.
Putting disordered eating out into the open. Helping people understand what disordered eating is and why it's happening to them.
Because here’s the thing. Unless you have a clinical eating disorder, then your behavior around food is considered ok, normal and acceptable.
Its a very all or nothing approach to wellness around food and is a systemic problem drastically impacting the live of millions of people. It's just that nobody talks about it because nobody even realizes it’s happening.
As the saying goes, you don’t know what you don’t know.
So this episode is meant to create awareness around how and why disordered eating has become the norm and why we have to take action to change it now. To help you know what you don’t know. To offer support for the people out there whose lives have been tormented by food and body image, but who thought it was all just normal.
This is for you.

Episode 97 of The Movement Diaries is all about why I’ve started adding in HIIT workouts after a 5+ year hiatus.
HIIT stands for high intensity interval training and is the type of workout that I used to do years ago, when exercise was only about earning food or burning off food.
I share the two main drivers that brought this about after all these years and how I’m able to do these workouts without falling back into old, destructive thoughts and behaviors.
There is an incredible crossover between the work I’ve done around food and so many other parts of my life. In many ways, changing what, why and how I ate became a gateway for many other shifts (including my career!).
I talk through a really important perspective around what it means to be a human that has played a huge role in the changes I’ve made around exercise and food.

Today I’m talking about why I’ve totally changed how and why I wear my Apple Watch.
I got my watch 3.5 years ago and from the moment it arrived, I wore it everyday, all day.
I loved seeing the data around movement and it felt so convenient and easy to have text messages show up on my wrist. I (mistakenly) thought it would keep me off of my phone.
And yet over time, I started to notice a shift in how I was relying on it. That at some point, the information it was providing was no longer benefitting me, and was even becoming problematic.
Beyond that I knew the watch was constantly pulling me out of the present moment. And it hit a breaking point which I talk through in detail in this episode.
There is a HUGE crossover between what I’ve experienced with the watch and with food. Because when you learn how to trust yourself around food it impacts many other parts of your life, in a very positive way. You begin to see all the other places where you rely on external rules and validation instead of your own innate wisdom and knowledge.
It just takes time to see it and be ready to take action on it.
