During a recent workshop I was asked three questions that I knew I needed to share here as they pertain to everybody. This is information that a lot of people don't have, but should.
Your relationship with your boss is one of the most important aspects of your job. If you have a great relationship it makes a better work environment. When you don't, though, it's the first thing you think about and it takes a toll. When you're interviewing for a job you have to be able to diagnose what is wrong with them so you'll be able to decide if you want to live with it or not. It's much easier to make that decision before you get that promotion or take a new job. I'll help you learn to diagnose what is wrong with your boss and learn how to deal with their craziness.
When the bombshell is announced you may not even hear about it until it's in the news. The first feelings people will feel is panic. Will you still have a job when this all plays out? What can you do to best prepare your people? Get as much information as you can so you can help them. Even if you think "this isn't going to be me, my company isn't even thinking about it." you still need to listen to this episode. You never know!
We talk a lot about what you can do to be happy and create a career you love. There are millions of books, blogs & websites that will give advice. I don't trust them though because they aren't backed by science and research that puts those ideas to the test. I want to see people that have researched how you can be happy in your career. What is happening in your brain that is helping you create a fulfilling career?
Did you know your "hotness" may just have something to do with your success in business? Some say your attractive capital makes a difference in how people perceive you, and your promotions. It's just as much as an asset as money, connections and intelligence. Does it matter?
Companies are devising ways to get, develop and retain high level employees to take key leadership positions. Are you identified as a high potential employee? Once you are it is a big increase in your pay and opportunities. What things do you need to do to be part of that group?
We're seeing a lot of baby boomers getting close to retirement age. They don't feel as valued as they once did because everyone knows they only have a limited number of years left in the work force. The companies and people who undervalue the older worker are wrong.
How do you apologize to people? This episode can apply to all apologies, not just ones at work. If you truly implement the strategies discussed here it will actually change your life! I’ll discuss reasons people don’t apologize, why it’s so difficult, what not to do when apologizing and exactly what you need to say!
To the public eye Steve Balmer would generally be considered an extrovert but if you read more about him he's quite different. In meetings he's quiet, focused and is often in deep concentration in meetings. So, if you're not an extrovert and you're not an introvert than what are you?
