Family estrangement from a child is an ambiguous loss… one that some people might not recognize because it is not a death. Hey, friend. Welcome back to the show. When you are estranged from your daughter or son, it’s easy to slip into a pattern of basing how you think of yourself on their perception of you. I mean, you figure, they know you well because you are their mother. You raised them, lived with them and if you are a biological mom, you even carried them in your body.

So, if they think poorly of you, you figure maybe you are a terrible person. Wrong. Your self worth should never be dependent on what your estranged adult child thinks of you. And the way you speak to yourself internally should support God’s view that you are highly valuable. His position on this is the right one. It’s the one that’s true. Let’s talk about it.

Her faith, compassion, understanding, dedication and display of radical love has truly been life-changing for me. I was so overwhelmed with feelings of confusion, guilt, and sadness. I felt lost and didn't know how to navigate through the emotional turmoil I was experiencing.
