A few little titters here and there, the odd pun or amusing tale can make your content more interesting, put a smile on your audience’s face and keep them hooked.
But only if the proper precautions are taken. And, only if it’s authentic.
Consider the likely humour of your audience before you launch in with the jokes. If you’re in any doubt, don’t.
Try to find some comic relief - it doesn’t have to be a barrage of slapstick remarks, just an amusing observation or anecdote about something that may otherwise be seen as quite serious or, even slightly dull.
Only use in-jokes if you are certain people will get it and won’t feel alienated by it
Use self-deprecating humour - poke fun at yourself (it’s a lot less risky than poking fun at other people and can shows signs of humility, confidence and a level of comfort on your own skin - all perfect if you’re trying to get others to trust you and what you have to offer)
Use humour sparingly, like tabasco sauce and avoid all together if you’re not sure of your audience’s taste.5 Star ratings and reviews help other women discover the show and learn how they can make sure their voice matters too. So please, don’t forget to leave one.
