This is profoundly changing how oil is traded and by whom. Forward curves are now dictating supply and demand. The information produced by integrated physical systems – historically the unassailable competitive advantage  of the majors – has now been democratized. This has also attracted new participants on a huge scale. The consequences is the oil markets look a lot more like equity markets and swings much more violent – supply and demand be damned.
