  • 38 Welcome To The Clearing: Genevieve Grant Thompson - Writer, Performance Coach & 'Somatic Worker'

    Send us Fan Mail

Welcome to another exciting - and indeed very special Episode - of "The Good Listening To" Podcast with me Chris Grimes!

Please welcome to the "GLT Clearing" today:  Writer, Performance Coach & "Somatic Worker" (get her!) the wise and wonderful Genevieve Grant-Thompson!

A wonderful and rich conversation indeed, speaking to one of my very own wonderful and wise Mentors: Genevieve is a wise soul & spirit indeed - and someone that I hold in very high regard.

She also said something to me once - a sage piece of advice that I'll never forget, as she explained why she was leaving one place - energetically - to go and be in another:

"Your Energy is like a precious pot of Gold & Honey: Be very, very careful where you pour it!"

We also talk about this in her Interview/Film.

As well as the profound and heart-warming story of how she used her Somatic wisdom and knowledge - very recently - to ease and comfort her father in his final journey, full of self-awareness, towards his death in his home - on his boat - in the Caribbean.

Genevieve has a wholistic approach to her work, which is to "get humans to fulfil their potential for joy, connection, and productivity". She has expertise in uncovering authenticity, removing roadblocks, and getting to the other side of fear.

    In her own words:

"I work with smart, creative, frustrated people. Together we use our smarts and creativity to turn frustration into tangible, sustainable success".

    Hurrah!

So - thanks for listening to another episode of a "GLT with me CG!"

The Podcast series that features "The Clearing":  Where all good questions come to be asked and all good stories come to be told!

With some lovely juicy storytelling metaphors to also enjoy along the way:

The Clearing itself - A Tree (where we get to "shake your tree to see which storytelling apples fall out, in the form of a lovely storytelling exercise called "5-4-3-2-1") - some Alchemy - some Gold - and finally a Cake with a Cherry on Top!

Think "Desert Island Discs" but in a Clearing!

Also think about William Shakespeare - and about Jaques in "As You Like It" in particular:

    "All the world's a stage,
    And all the men and women merely players;
They have their exits and their entrances,
And one man in his time plays many parts,
    His acts being seven ages..."

    Jaques: Act II Scene VII

And as my Guest in the Podcast:  Now is your 'moment in the sunshine' to share your story!

Who are you? What's your story? And what 'life-lessons-learned-along-the-way' would you like to share with us? And just to get bit "existential on yo ass" too (!) what would you like your legacy to be?  How would you most like to be remembered?

And all my guests have at least 2 things in common: They are all Creative individuals  - and all with an interesting story to be told!

If you'd like to find out more, then please do check out my websites www.secondcurve.uk + www.instantwit.co.uk - and there's also a dedicated "Good Listening To" Facebook Group c/o the link above.

A wonderful and rich conversation indeed - featuring particularly the number 23: The age at which Jay had a series of profound "coming of age" experiences.

(Jay and I also have the mighty Working Voices in common)

    In Jay's  own words:

Jay Rhoderick is an actor, improviser, communications coach and writer. He has taught in the Bronx public school system, at Yale Drama School, on Wall Street and was lucky enough to boat up the mighty Mekong River delta with his mom, in a less terrifying version of "Apocalpse Now."

  • 33 Welcome To The Clearing: Wendy Bagger - Rocky Mountains Resident, Actress, Facilitator & Coach!

    Send us Fan Mail

Welcome to another episode of "The Good Listening To" Podcast with me Chris Grimes!

And in the "GLT Clearing" today:  Actress, Facilitator & Coach - Wendy Bagger (or as I like to call her "Bendy Wagger"!) speaking to me from her home in the Rocky Mountains!

In her "Clearing", she describes it beautifully as being the "crescendo moment - just at the end of a joyful and gutteral laugh with good friends - where you wish it would never stop!"

She also shares a delicious quote from actor Alan Alda (most famous for being Hawkeye Pierce in M*A*S*H) about the nature of "good acting" and the true quality of "good listening":

"Listen as though what  the person says to you is about to change your life..."

    Nice!

Wendy describes her joy of teaching people to communicate - authentically - letting their own personality be enough.

"I come from a performance background with a BA in Theatre Arts from the University of Nevada Las Vegas, and a Masters in Fine Art in Acting from Ohio State University. So I understand the pressure of being the one in the spotlight that everyone is looking to for a clear story. And I understand the power of storytelling to make your messages memorable and engaging and easy to follow.

Authenticity, connection, and clarity are the foundations of great communication, no matter what profession you're in. And for the last decade, I have been helping people demystify the art of communicating. I've been coaching, training, and developing courses that help people overcome their nerves, connect more deeply to their content and their listener, and create messages that resonate beyond the conference room table".

A wonderful delight of a rich conversation indeed!

  • 35 "Legacy: Life Reflections" Episode With My Father - Colin Grimes (AKA Dad!)

    Send us Fan Mail

Welcome to an exciting new departure to "The Good Listening To Podcast"!

A new GLT series strand called "Legacy: Life Reflections", inspired by William Shakespeare's "All the World's Stage".

It's the opportunity to join me in the "GLT Clearing" to share your story - and reflect  on your "Life's-Lessons-Learned" along your way.  And also share what you'd like your legacy to be: How would you most like to be remembered?

So to that end - please welcome to the GLT Clearing:  Colin Grimes a.k.a my Father!

A life trailblazer and "serial organiser and fixer" (!) born in Middlesborough and emigrated to Uganda with 3 children (including me!) in tow - at my age equivalent of 28 - in the mid 1960's.

    Get him!

    So yes!

This is the inaugural Episode of the new GLT series strand called "Legacy: Life Reflections".
In talking to my father - Colin Grimes - and inspired by William Shakespeare's "All The World's A Stage Speech"  in "As You Like It":

    "All the world's a stage,
    And all the men and women merely players;
They have their exits and their entrances,
And one man in his time plays many parts,
    His acts being seven ages..."

    Jaques: Act II Scene VII

This is the opportunity to have a special Episode of The Good Listening To Podcast - with all the elements of its strong storytelling construct - wrapped around and dedicated entirely (and privately if you wish?) to you and your Life’s Story.

(The idea being: A new “Private Series” strand to the Good Listening To Podcast:

A Zoom Podcast series for private individuals, whereby I ‘wrap’ an Episode of the “The Good Listening To Podcast” - with all of the elements of its strong storytelling construct - around the life story (and the life’s-lessons-learned along the way) of you or another member of your family)

And as always - as my guest here in the Podcast - "Now is your 'moment in the sunshine' to share your story!"

Who are you? What's your story? And what 'life-lessons-learned-along-the-way' would you like to share with us? And just to get bit "existential on yo ass" too (!) what would you like your legacy to be?  How would you most like to be remembered?

So - thanks for listening to another episode of a "GLT with me CG!"

The Podcast series that always features "The Clearing":  Where all good questions come to be asked and all good stories come to be told!

And also now think about William Shakespeare - and about "As You Like It" and "All the World's a Stage" in particular!

If you'd like to find out more, then please do check out my websites www.secondcurve.uk + www.instantwit.co.uk - and there's also a dedicated "Good Listening To" Facebook Group c/o the link above.

Plus if you'd be interested in the experience of being given "a damn good listening to" yourself, or you'd like to explore the idea of some Personal Impact Coaching from me CG - to help level-up your confidence, communication, and personal impact c/o my online Coaching proposition: The Second Curve "Zoom Room" - then, by all means, do get in touch via any of the usual social media channels (see above) or you can email me at [email protected]

  • 31 Welcome To The Clearing: Jennifer Ryan Peery Logue - Actress, Coach & "Queen of the Americas"!

    Send us Fan Mail

Ladies n' Genmin welcome to another exciting episode of "The Good Listening To" Podcast with me Chris Grimes!

And absolutely delighted to be bringing to the  "The GLT Clearing" today, "Queen of the Americas", "Super Coach",  Actress and friend, Jennifer Ryan Peery Logue!

We both have Working Voices - the Global Communication Skills Training Company -  in common.

Jennifer is Head of Working Voices America!

During her 12 years at Working Voices Jennifer has pioneered their women’s leadership courses, as well as developing and delivering global programs for some of the world’s largest institutions across the law,  financial services and fashion.

As an Actress,  Jen is an Improviser - has done "Stand-Up" - and she is a regular performer in a long running Irish-Bar-based Theatre Show called "Our Bar" in New York.

As described by Time Out in New York:

"Our Bar" is an immersive, site-specific monthly show, where the audience is thrust into "10 all-new mini-plays that unfold all around them at an Irish bar. A new slate of mostly comic scenes is prepared for each edition".

Jen is also - I would say - "healthily obsessed" with HBO's Epic Series "Game of Thrones" - and in a parallel Universe she would definitely live at Targaryen's House (!) and have a clutch of pet Dragons to ride around on, as Queen Khaleesi!

However in THIS Universe, Jen is often to be seen "breathing fire" in the back of New York Taxis.  She definitely "has a thing" about not being 'taken for a ride' in that regard!  Wo-betide you if you happen to be driving in a New York Cab and you take a wrong turn with your meter running!

(Also instead of a having a pet Dragon, Jennifer actually has a very small dog called Hazelnut, who she very definitely coudn't ride around on!)

    Hurrah!

And I'm very happy to be in "GLT Clearing" today with a lovely man - a really good friend - and  fellow Comedy Improvisation performer, Mike Akers - also known as the legend that IS "Reverend Lemon!"

I have had the great joy of standing alongside Mike many times - helping many an audience to laugh over many years together - appearing in my Comedy Improvisation Company and ongoing 'passion project' which is INSTANT WIT.

We also have the great delight of co-facilitating a Comedy Improvisation Event with other members of INSTANT WIT once a year (the "Zombie Apocalypse" notwithstanding!) at one of the most beautiful places on the planet - in SW  France - surrounded on 3 sides by Sunflowers!

It's at www.lessoeursanglaises.com - a majestic space and venue curated by the very lovely Katie Elliott Armitage, who I have also had in "The Clearing" in another Episode.

The Workshop that we run  is called "INSTANT WIT Laughter Lab" where we invite (what always turns out to be a lovely Group  each year) to  join us in exploring the wonderfully liberating Comedy Improvisational mindset of "yes and..."

Each year it's one of my very very favourite things to do!

Mike is also (he won't mind my saying - because it's also true!) my Table Tennis bitch!

    In Mike's own words:

Writer, Theatre Maker, Early Years Specialist

"Hi, I’m Mike. Thanks for stopping by. I work in theatre because I love telling stories. Whether I’m at home in my shed struggling with the first draft of a new play, working in a rehearsal room with a company of actors or listening to a three-year old in a nursery setting tell me a tale they have just invented, story is the common thread that unites all the strands of my work. If you’re interested in what I do or in working with me then please get in touch".

Mike also talks in the Podcast about a lovely writer's exercise called "The Mysterious Well" .

    Also think about William Shakespeare:

    "All the world's a stage,
    And all the men and women merely players;
They have their exits and their entrances,
And one man in his time plays many parts,
    His acts being seven ages..."

    Jaques: Act II Scene VII

Who are you? What's your story? And what 'life-lessons-learned-along-the-way' would you like to share with us? And just to get bit "existential on yo ass" too (!) what would you like your legacy to be?  How would you most like to be remembered?

And all my guests have at least 2 things in common: They are all Creative individuals  - and all with an interesting story to be told!

(The Second Curve "Zoom Room": Coaching to help you 'level up' your IMPACT - or to get Clarity on how to get to "where next?")

Tune in next week for more stories of 'Distinction & Genius' from The Good Listening To Show 'Clearing'.  If you would like to be my Guest too then you can find out HOW via the different 'series strands' at 'The Good Listening To Show' website.

    Send us Fan Mail

Ladies n' Genmin welcome to another exciting episode of "The Good Listening To" Podcast with me Chris Grimes!

A special "Brand Strand" Episode, whereby I wrap an Episode around a particular Company (or Individual) to amplify their Company (or Personal) Brand.

And to that end, please welcome to the GLT "Clearing" today:  Eloise Leeson,  linguist and owner of Olim Comms:

Here to help  businesses - in Eloise's own words - "close the gap between what they think they're saying, and what's actually being received by their customers".

Eloise also explains what "Olim" means (Latin for "Once" and how she applies its principles) in the Podcast too!

    Hurrah!

More about Eloise and her work:

What do you get when you combine linguistic discipline with extensive commercial communications experience?

Really great results, it turns out!

Eloise Leeson is a trained linguist, with a unique, data-focused approach to written and verbal communications that’s delivered insights and results for a wealth of companies.

Her consultancy, Olim, helps us to close the gap between what we think we're saying - and what's actually being received by our listeners.

You can find out more about Eloise and her stirling linguistic work at her website olimcomms.com

  • 28 Welcome To The Clearing: Ged Stephenson - Director, Teacher, Theatre Practitioner, Clown & My Oldest Dear Friend!

    Send us Fan Mail

Ladies n' Genmin welcome to another exciting episode of "The Good Listening To" Podcast with me Chris Grimes!

And absolutely delighted to be bringing to the  "The GLT Clearing" today - for our collective joy and delictation - my oldest and dearest friend: Actor, Drama Teacher, Theatre Practitioner, Clown, Musician - and all round "Versatility Pants!" and thoroughly decent human being - Ged Stephenson!

Ged is indeed my oldest friend! We met in 1982 and trained together - as Drama Teachers - at the Central School of Screech & Trauma (!) in a Graduating Year Group called Teacher 86!

A joyful and unforgettable formative experience together - which set me very firmly on the path towards who I am - and what I do today - with Ged's and my experiences running in parallel.

We shared many an anarchic flat and joyful experiences aplenty together - generally 'titting about' as a pair of precursors to "Ant & Dec" before they were even born!

He is a brilliant Director, Teacher, Actor, Musician, Clown - and an inspirer of many and to me in particular...

He is also very mischievous - so a potential pain in the arse to interview! But today he was quite well behaved!

    Enjoy!
