Ladies n' Genmin welcome to another exciting episode of "The Good Listening To Podcast" with me Chris Grimes!
And please welcome to the "GLT Clearing" Lizzie Hodgson: Double TedX Speaker and Impact of Tech on Society Thought Leader.
One of Lizzie's 2 Ted Talks is the unmissable and extremely compelling: "Do Not Miss Your Escalator Moment", all about "windows of opportunity" and how "out of adversity comes great creativity..." A story of falling, failing and picking yourself up again in order to achieve bigger and better things.
In Lizzie's own words on LinkedIn:
"I am a consultant and strategist, working with global corporations, companies, public sector organisations and charities, helping them identify purpose, and vision, delivering impact and growth through marketing and comms. I have particular focus on creative industries and young people.
I also coach and mentor a range of people - I explore personal strategies and approaches to help people better reach their potential and build resilience through 1:1 sessions"
Lizzie gives talks on blended generational workplaces, Gen Z and Gen Alpha, diversity, young people, tech on society and workplace, and AI bias.
So - thank you for listening to another Episode or "A GLT with me CG!" - the Podcast series that features "The Clearing": Where all good Questions come to be asked and all good Stories come to be told!
Think "Desert Island Discs" but in a Clearing!
Also think about William Shakespeare - and about Jaques in "As You Like It" in particular:
"All the world's a stage,
And all the men and women merely players;
They have their exits and their entrances,
And one man in his time plays many parts,
His acts being seven ages..."
Jaques: Act II Scene VII
And as my Guest in the Podcast: Now is your 'moment in the sunshine' to share your story!
Who are you? What's your story? And what 'life-lessons-learned-along-the-way' would you like to share with us? And just to get bit "existential on yo ass" too (!) what would you like your legacy to be? How would you most like to be remembered?
And all my guests have at least 2 things in common: They are all Creative individuals - and all with an interesting story to be told!
If you'd like to find out more, then please do check out my websites www.secondcurve.uk + www.instantwit.co.uk - and there's also a dedicated "Good Listening To" Facebook Group c/o the link above.
Plus if you'd be interested in the experience of being given "a damn good listening to" yourself, or you'd like to explore the idea of some Personal Impact Coaching from me CG - to help level-up your confidence, communication, and personal impact c/o my online Coaching proposition: The Second Curve "Zoom Room" - then, by all means, do get in touch via any of the usual social media channels (see above) or you can email me at [email protected]
(The Second Curve "Zoom Room": Coaching to help you 'level up' your IMPACT - or to get Clarity on how to get to "where next?")
Tune in next week for more stories of 'Distinction & Genius' from The Good Listening To Show 'Clearing'. If you would like to be my Guest too then you can find out HOW via the different 'series strands' at 'The Good Listening To Show' website.

Ladies n' Genmin welcome to another exciting episode of "The Good Listening To" Podcast with me Chris Grimes!
Where all my guests in my Podcast have at least 2 things in common: They are all Creative individuals - and all with an interesting story to be told!
So please welcome to the "GLT Clearing" - where all good Questions come to be asked and all good Stories come to be told - fellow Working Voices Coach & Facilitator, Claire Burnie!
A lovely rich conversation, anchored to a very strong "mother influence" for Claire: About her mother's profound presence in simply "being there" to help bolster - reframe - and keep perspective (always with pefect timing) as Claire has journeyed along.
Claire's "Clearing" interestingly - where she goes to get "clutter free, inspirational and able to think" - is a Doodle Pad!
And she's in good company, as apparently back in the day Sting woke up to pen, paper and pad from a dreamscape (as you do!) to bung "Every Breath You Take" down! I'll wager he was - on balance - very happy to have had a pen and Doodle Pad to hand!
More about Claire:
"Claire holds 15 years in driving sustainable results through creating highly stimulating and engaging environments, which challenge employees thinking causing them to broaden and extend their skills beyond what they believed they were capable of. Having delivered a number of senior operational positions, Claire has the ability to influence and inspire at all levels, with experience in both B2B and B2C global organisations, across sectors with large scale projects delivered in; Retail, Telecoms, Health, Travel, Utilities, Technology and Financial Services. This has led to a proven track record, with achievements including designing and leading award winning programmes that achieved in access of 1700% in return on investment".
So - thanks for listening to another episode of a "GLT with me CG!"
The Podcast series that features "The Clearing": Where all good questions come to be asked and all good stories come to be told!
With some lovely juicy storytelling metaphors to also enjoy along the way:
The Clearing itself - A Tree (where we get to "shake your tree to see which storytelling apples fall out, in the form of a lovely storytelling exercise called "5-4-3-2-1") - some Alchemy - some Gold - and finally a Cake with a Cherry on Top!
Think "Desert Island Discs" but in a Clearing!
Also think about William Shakespeare - and about "As You Like It" in particular:
"All the world's a stage,
And all the men and women merely players;
They have their exits and their entrances,

Welcome to another Episode of "The Good Listening To Podcast - with me Chris Grimes!"
And today, please welcome to GLT Clearing: "Squashy Old Bagpuss" himself - my old Acting Teacher from the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, Mr John Hartoch!
John is the ex "Head of Acting Courses" at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School.
John Hartoch was one of my illustrious gallery of Acting Teachers (among the likes of the great Nat Brenner - Peter O'Toole's mentor - and Rudi Shelley who adored, for obvious reasons, Daniel Day Lewis...) way back when I was at The Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, circa 1986-88!
And what a lovely rich conversation we had!
So - pull up a cup of coffee - or even better, a glass of wine or two - and enjoy the ride!

Please welcome to the "GLT Clearing" Ladies n' Genmin - Paul Mabberley - or as I call him: "The Lovely-Jubbly-Mibbberley-Mabberly-Mib-Mob-Mobster!" (or just plain old Paul M for short!)
A lovely man and friend - and genuinely one of the clearest, calmest and best(est!) Facilitators that I know & have the priviledge of working alongside, at Working Voices.
A lovely rich conversation, talking about clarity, nature, high culture and the arts, singing - and Cathedrals of the mind!
(Most of the vast empty spaces of which - as the banter would have it - are inside Paul's head! Chortle!)
So - pull up a cup of coffee - or even better, a glass of wine or two - and enjoy the ride!

Ladies n' Genmin, absolutely delighted to welcome to the "GLT Clearing", the wise and wonderful Nick Fordham, currently based in Hong Kong!
Nick Fordham has been described as being "the most highly saught-after soft-skills trainer in Asia" - or as I like to call him "the most saught after man in Asia in soft trainers!"
Chortle!
Nick is a friend, facilitator, coach and a very wise man. And as I knew all along - he'd be well worth "giving a damn good listening to" indeed - and he doesn't dissapoint!
Nick and I also work together at Working Voices. Most recently at a big global client gathering in Abu Dhabi - at the very end of last year.
This is a wonderful rich-and -textured conversation, with some great stories to enjoy along the way: About Nick and his the creative process as an ex-actor, faciltator - and as an extremely talented Coach with "top-tips a-plenty" to share and divulge.
We talk about the profound power of "reframing" in Coaching - and Nick's first experience of it, in the form of some very powerful advice indeed from his father, at the age of 23, when Nick was at a low point in his life and career. But also - as you'll hear - this was also a profound point of "new beginnings" for Nick, and indeed the notion of "reframing" continues to carry him along to where he is to this day.
Nick is a superb conversationalist and there are many great stories and "Eureka moments" to enjoy along the way.
Listen to Nick's story about the creative process - and about "Dare to Suck" in the context of the band Aerosmith in particular!
(I've created a special "Chapter" here in the Podcast dedicated to that story!)
So - pull up a cup of coffee (or even better, a glass of wine!) and enjoy the ride!
And thank you for listening to another episode of a "GLT with me CG!"

Gifted musician, James Oram, welcomes us into his Clearing to serenade us with the alchemy and gold that pours from his psyche.
Not only is James a talented musician in his own right, but is an expert in inspiring confidence in children, allowing them to communicate and discover themselves through the art of music.
James has also recently published a brand new single! it's called "Time", and if you're a fan of piano melodies that ooze emotion, I'd highly recommend having a listen on the usual music channels!
So - pull up a cup of coffee (or even better, a glass of wine!) and enjoy the ride!

Please welcome to the "GLT Clearing" Ladies n' Genmin', Australian adventurers, LinkedIn explorers and super-hero husband and wife team, Stephen and Donna Fry!
Stephen and Donna Fry are on an extraordinary mission and quest together, to "meet at least one new person every single day, throughout the 366 days of this year". Erm - and what a year, in particular, this has been!
Stephen set out on his "Epic Quest" this year, blissfully unaware about what 2020 in particular would bring! Who knew that his journey would be spanning a Global Pandemic?! But continuing on his journey undeterred (with his wife and biggest fan Donna accompanying him as his Producer!) Stephen set out - in his own words - to overcome his "innate introversion" by an act of "overt extoversion": By meeting and interviewing somebody new every single day of this year!
What a great quest and idea. And what a lovely, rich conversation we had!
(In fact they got in touch to interview me first: I was Day 289 of their journey, so this interview is my chance to reciprocate!)
So - pull up a cup of coffee (or even better, a glass of wine!) and enjoy the ride!

Please welcome to the "GLT Clearing" Ladies n' Genmin, my very special guest and long-term friend, Julian P Page, Managing Director of the Livingstone Tanzania Trust.
Julian co-founded the Charity in 2007, after a career changing epiphany and a realisation of a desire to step in and proactively help to bring about change, in a way that went way beyond the more familiar approach by most, of just giving money. He started a Charity that is now supporting many fantastic initiatives that adress the underlying causes of poverty.
His wonderful Charity has the ambitious, brave and commendable aim of "adressesing poverty in the African region in all its complex aspects: Offering help and support to empower the community - and crucially staying there as long as it takes - until support is no longer needed or required".
And what a wonderful story and account of his journey Julian brings.
Julian also explains the African philosophy of "Mbuntu":
"How can a person be happy when their neighbour is not?"
The Livingstone Tanzania Trust now needs our help more than ever. An organisation whose vision is "to see the people of the Manyara Region unlock their potential, overcome poverty and live long, happy and healthy lives where all are respected and valued."
You can find out more about Julian and the the work of the Trust c/o www.livingstonetanzaniatrust.com

Ladies n Genmin' welcome to a particularly special Episode of a "GLT with me CG!"
Please welcome to the "Good Listening To Clearing" a comedy hero of mine:
"Tweedy the Clown" from the wonderful and magical Gifford's Circus!
My entire extended family - a squad of 9 of us - have been going to Gifford's Circus for the last 17 of their 20 year history, normally during their late Summer residency at Minchinhampton Common, always as a thoroughly enjoyable and significant marker of "another year passed".
Tweedy the Clown, with his pet iron "Keef" and his dispensing of lollies c/o his iconic "I've got a lo-lly!" ("You've not got one! You're such a loo-ser!") song - along with his extraordinary repetoire of comic business has always been the absolute 'centre-piece' for us all.
This year has been particularly poignant in the history of Gifford's Circus. Founder Nell Gifford sadly passed away at the very end of last year - even before the extra extra challenge of the Pandemic itself - but thankfully her legacy and the story of Gifford's looks set to continue.
Tweedy is a true "Vaudevillian" and clown in the Stan Laurel style, which is why I was particularly keen and happy to talk to him!
Enjoy!
Tweedy's "Clearing" - reassuringly and quite right too - is the Circus arena itself, where all the magic, alchemy & gold is dispensed.
Tweedy shares his story and journey of how he came to clowning - and subsequently to Gifford's Circus itself.
Plus his story of how a fire in the middle of a 'comedy cake routine' led to his iconic red tuft of hair scorching into being, as Tweedy found his "true clown".
Enjoy!
And thank you for listening to a "GLT with me CG!"

Ladies n' Genmin please welcome to the GLT Clearing, Sara Hollamby: TV Presenter (of London's iconic New Year's Day Parade show with over 300 million viewers - get her!), Actress and fellow Facilitator & Coach at Working Voices.
With the outdoors and nature - and Dew Pond, close to where she lives in particular - as her "Clearing", Sara tells us the comedy stories of being unexpectedly surrounded by deer one minute (just like Snow White!) and then the next being approached by a woman - ooh no wait, it's a man - in a flesh coloured thong, asking for directions to the station (as you do...!)
Sara regails us with stories and anecdotes a-plenty, of a pattern of 'confident choices and decisions' - inspired by her mother in particular - that have carried her along the path of her rich and varied career.
Sara Hollamby began her career as Personal Assistant (and unexpected embroiderer of Haute Couture!) to fashion designer Mary Quant, who was an early career mentor to Sara.
Sara subsequently moved on from Mary Quant to persue her love of travel. She then became a TV Presenter in Hong Kong, where she learnt her craft of Presenting.
She also describes her love and passion for helping others in learning how to Present too, as a Coach and Facilitator at Working Voices.
She has a wicked sense of humour - with a laugh to match - and I always laugh a lot and enjoy myself tremendously in her company, as you will too!
So - pull up a cup of coffee (or even better, a glass of wine!) and enjoy the ride!
