Ladies n' Genmin please welcome to the GLT Clearing if you will, the BOOMING presence and natural raconteur that IS Jack Klaff!
As a Actor, Jack Klaff has been described as being a "one man show" specialist.
And indeed he was the first Actor I ever experienced doing just that, whilst I was doing my Drama Teacher Training at the "Central School of Screech & Trauma" (!) in London, circa 1980's before coming to Bristol to the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. I experienced him as being in his 'absolute element', commanding the stage with his BOOMING voice, versatility and strength of characterisation.
A truly impressive stage presence indeed.
Jack Klaff is a South African born Actor, Writer, Academic and fellow Bristol Old Vic Theatre School alumni.
He is a complete natural. You'll notice it doesn't take much to get him on the 'open road' of letting his thinking unfold! And what a rich, textured and multi-layered conversation it is...
(He is also a wonderful test for an interviewer, as he is, I experienced, quite difficult to interrupt when in full flow!)
So - pull up a cup of coffee - or even better a glass of wine or two - and why not give it a good listening to? (See what I'm doing there?!)
Enjoy!
You can Watch/Listen to Jack's interview on Vimeo here:
https://vimeo.com/473727198
He has held professorships at Princeton University and Starlab. Amongst his early screen roles were in Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope (1977) as Red Four and For Your Eyes Only (1981) as Apostis.
Hurrah!
So - thanks for listening to another episode of a "GLT with me CG!"
The Podcast series that features "The Clearing": Where all good questions come to be asked and all good stories come to be told!
With some lovely juicy storytelling metaphors to also enjoy along the way:
The Clearing itself - A Tree (where we get to "shake your tree to see which storytelling apples fall out, in the form of a lovely storytelling exercise called "5-4-3-2-1") - some Alchemy - some Gold - and finally a Cake with a Cherry on Top!
Think "Desert Island Discs" but in a Clearing!
Also think about William Shakespeare - and about Jaques in "As You Like It" in particular:
"All the world's a stage,
And all the men and women merely players;
They have their exits and their entrances,
And one man in his time plays many parts,
His acts being seven ages..."
Jaques: Act II Scene VII
And as my Guest in the Podcast: Now is your 'moment in the sunshine' to share your story!
Who are you? What's your story? And what 'life-lessons-learned-along-the-way' would you like to share with us? And just to get bit "existential on yo ass" too (!) what would you like your legacy to be? How would you most like to be remembered?
And all my guests have at least 2 things in common: They are all Creative individuals - and all with an interesting story to be told!
If you'd like to find out more, then please do check out my websites www.secondcurve.uk + www.instantwit.co.uk - and there's also a dedicated "Good Listening To" Facebook Group c/o the link above.

Ladies & Gentlemen please welcome to a particularly exciting Episode of "The Good Listening To Podcast" with me Chris Grimes!
And please welcome to the "GLT Clearing" one of my very favourite people on the planet, Katie Elliott Armitage!
Katie is a well renowned Seamstress and all round lovely person - who reminds me of an "Expat Judy Dench!", so I loved her as soon as I met her! (Plus she also has a Ping Pong Table - so she's the person with very fine taste that just keeps on giving! What's not to like?!)
Katie and her husband Michael swopped London life 12 years ago for a new life together in Rural France in the Dordogne.
I met Katie about 5 years ago when I was lucky enough to spend a very happy Summer holiday at her gorgeous property, as a bit of a "special treat", to coincide with my daughter receiving her GCSE Results and the occasion of my 25th Wedding Anniversary!
Katie curates the most wonderful and majestic Workshop Venue on the planet!
It's called "Le Space" at www.lessoeursanglaises.com and it is surrounded on 3 sides by Sunflowers.
Once a year - Zombie Apocalypse notwithstanding (!) - I now get to run my favourite event of the year: It's called "INSTANT WIT Laughter Lab" where me - and other members of my Comedy Improvisation Company INSTANT WIT - have the great joy of running a 5 day Workshop to explore the wonderfully liberating Comedy Improvisational Mindset of "Yes and..."
A lovely, rich conversation indeed!
Katie was born in Ghana - went to school for a time in Ethiopia - and subsequently lived for many years in London before swopping for her lovely life in France.
So thanks for listening to another Episode of a "GLT with me CG!"

Welcome to another exciting episode of "The Good Listening To" Podcast with me Chris Grimes!
Please welcome to the GLT "Clearing" today: Katie Elliott, Wellbeing & Mental Health Coach, Speaker, Podcaster & Facilitator extraordinaire!
Katie is also a mental health "survivor", which adds extreme depth to her work.
She's a very talented multi-instrumentalist Musician too! Katie also used to play keyboards as one of the musicians in my Comedy Improvisation Company, INSTANT WIT.
In Katie's own words:
"I'm the founder of 'Little Challenges': A project sharing simple, practical, evidence-based ideas to help make the 'messy' business of being human just a little bit easier.
Through the project, I give talks, design and deliver bespoke training packages for organisations of all kinds and produce written and video content. I have also created a simple new self-care tool with accompanying resource site: Amiko Cards (www.amikocards.com)
I produce and host the podcast, 'Adventures in Behaviour Change', which features conversations with guests from all over the world, exploring issues relating to wellbeing, resilience, productivity, behaviour change and life design.
Having spent over 25 years working as a freelance content creator (writing, illustration, whiteboard animation and music composition), workshop facilitator, performer and coach, I've often wondered how on earth all the different strands of work could ever fit together. It's a pleasure to find that, finally, they do.
More than anything, I love to collaborate - so if there's any way I can help you in the work you're doing, please get in touch!"

Ladies n' Genmin welcome to another exciting episode of "The Good Listening To" Podcast with me Chris Grimes!
And today, I'm delighted to welcome to The "GLT Clearing", Dame Eric Potts!
Eric is wonderful Actor - a very funny man indeed - a warm and generous friend - a great singer - and a true Pantomime Dame of Distinction!
Just Google him and you will see!
Eric and I trained together at The Bristol Old Vic Theatre School.
As testament to his wonderful warmth and generosity, when I invited Eric to let me have some Programme notes for his Episode, this is what he wrote:
"I had the honour of training alongside Chris Grimes at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School far too long ago to remember before embarking on a short National Tour together of a very intense, possibly traumatic two-hander play (about Maximillian Kolbe of Auchwitz) which allowed us to savour the delights of such theatrical Meccas as Slough, Derby and the length and breadth of the Isle of Man.
Despite the artistic depth of the piece and the venue list this proved to be a remarkably enjoyable experience both creatively and personally.
It was a real joy to catch up with Chris again on one of his fabulous “A Good Listening To” Podcasts, dredging from the indulgent depths of theatrical anecdotary a few memories that surprised him and, as you will see, surprised me too!
Give it a listen - it’s only an hour and the telly is rubbish these days! Eric.”
A true delight of a conversation together indeed!

Welcome to another Episode of "The Good Listening To Podcast" with me Chris Grimes!
And please welcome to the GLT "Clearing" today, the very lovely Paul Hill , Voice Teacher and Actor who I also have the great pleasure of working alongside at Working Voices too!
And I also credit Paul here, for being very largely responsible for the "Genesis of the idea" of this, my Podcast:
As it was a 'flash of inspiration' that came to me whilst listening to him (on a Zoom Trainer call) whilst we were all talking and thinking about "how to best amplify the voice and personality of the Working Voices Trainers: And I thought: "I know how to do that!" And the rest - as they say is history!
Here I am now: "What you need is a damned good listening to..." was born!
So here we are today - talking a mother's profound influence - a shared favourite actor in Mark Rylance - and the profound impact in our lives of just saying "yes" more - to open up more "lubricated windows of opportunity!" (which obviously resonated very well with my own love of the "yes and..." Mindset that underpins all Comedy Improvisation a la INSTANT WIT!

And please welcome to the GLT Clearing - where you always come to get a "damned good listening to!" - ex-Ad Man/Mad-Man!" and all round thoroughly decent human being, my very good friend Reg Starkey!
A wonderfully rich conversation with reflections a-plenty on a colourful and creative life, both long-lived and wise!
Born in Barking during the Blitz, a benign benefactor put him through private schools in Salisbury and Malvern.
Further education involved French in Paris, Law in London and Advertising in Watford, followed by career as a Copywriter and Creative Director.
He has written a slim volume of poetry entitled ‘The Weekend Artist’ followed by ‘The Old Covent Garden Market’, ‘Samples of One’ and ‘The New Millennium Tales’.
Reg is prolifically creative and energetic currently working on a number of creative projects as part of his legacy: On his memoirs, called ‘Second Thoughts’, a new collection of poetry called ‘A year In Villanelle by way of Limerick and Haiku’ and a guide to dealing with addiction entitled ‘The Battleship and the Lighthouse.’
And as Reg says: “We are all products of our background. The challenge is not to be victims of our history.”
