The Grief Gang

Hey gang, it's been a minute. There's some big updates here in Grief Gang world, with the most relevant here being that the podcast is going to bed for a little while. I speak to this in the intro and how I'll do a fuller update in an episode about this, but today's episode isn't about that. As I come to drawing the podcast to a close, I am working my way through the small backlog of episodes recorded over the past couple of years. And today's episode is with my mate, Poppy Chancellor, who died 3 years ago this September 29th 2026. I'll let the below text say the rest, it's the exact copy draft I wrote for it when it originally was meant for release, which was 1 week after she died. It's a pretty gorgeous conversation, and I'm so glad that I have it. Thank you for listening.

"This weeks episode is a tough one as it's very close to home. For those of you who have listened to the show for years and follow TGG on social media, will be familiar with Poppy's voice and our friendship. You might have seen a few months ago, us share about Poppy's diagnosis in the Spring with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia.

From the beginning of diagnosis, Poppy and I made a vow to try and document what we can throughout this journey. For Poppy to look back on and for me as her friend to bare witness to all she is enduring. It's what we've been doing for years through our respective work, so it felt most comfortable that this is how we'd navigate this part of our friendship and change.

In this episode, Poppy shares with us at the point of recording, what the previous 3 months had been like. Living with the grief of this diagnosis and what it means for her body and future. We discuss things from my perspective watching someone you love endure this and some things that Poppy has found helpful that you might benefit from. Of course, we answer some questions from you Grief Gang listeners!

Poppy and I appreciate the adoring love you have outpoured for her. At the time of release, Pops is in a tricky spot with her treatment but she will get there. She is healed.

Welcome to The Father's Day ep 2026! The episode where I pass the mic to you - Grief Gang community. This episode is one of my favourite styles to do. As always each year I put a call out to TGG community to respond to a select amount of prompts to tell the story and memory of their Dad. The responses are undoubtedly moving, connecting and beautiful. Hey gang!

It's been a minute (if you don't include the random episode drops I've done!) since I've done a podcast episode. I've taken a hiatus as I often do to regroup and gather my thoughts. A lot has gone down since the last season of TGG that came to an end in July last year. I'm really happy to be bringing the podcast back and in this episode I share how it's going to look moving forward! Well, we're back from the trip of a lifetime. The first Grief Gang Getaway to Bali, Indonesia. The Grief Gang podcast is back! It's been a minute hasn't it? To mark the return of the podcast, I thought there would be no better way than to do so with The Mother's Day episode. This is the episode where I pass the mic to you, the community. I've been doing this style of episode since the conception of Grief Gang in 2020. I took a little hiatus from 2024-2025 as life was just life-ing. But it feels really good to be back and to bring this episode back too!

Well, it's been a hot minute hasn't it?! I'm absolutely delighted to be sharing part 1 of this Christmas special crossover with Amie and Alicia Fretter from If We Don't Laugh podcast. Back in November the girls and I thought it was about time we got together on the mics and my god how glad we are that we did. This is the finale episode of season 8! What a season it's been. I thank you all for your continuous support of the podcast!

I thought about all the ways in which I wanted to end the season. But to be honest, there was no other way I wanted or could end this season other than with todays episode. Our collective, worldly, planetary grief is at an all time high and we are feeling it. The grief, violence, atrocities and genocide we are witnessing against the people of Palestine is horror beyond comprehension. We must and can use our voices, for our fellow grievers.

I'll let the episode do the talking because I said all I had to in there. There will be people who will vehemently disagree with what I say and brand me as something I'm not. But, I'm completely okay with that.

I'm very excited to share this week's episode and guest with you all. Today I'm talking with friend, film producer, author and grief educator-Lizzie Pickering.

Lizzie and I met back in 2022 at the UK Commission on Bereavement and haven't left each others side since. Throughout the years, Lizzie has become a dear friend and someone I admire both personally and professionally. Lizzie's relationship with grief began when her son, Harry, died aged 6 and a half after being diagnosed with a life limiting and terminal illness when he was extremely little.

Throughout those years and continuing to raise her family that consisted of her two surviving children, Lizzie knew that she wanted to walk towards her grief rather than away from it. In doing so, Lizzie has gathered an extreme wealth of knowledge and compassion that has gone on to support other bereaved parents and individuals in the masses. I feel so fortunate to walk alongside Lizzie in our lines of work and what she shares in our episode today, I think you'll see why.

Lizzie and I discuss in this episode the various different but recurring themes we see in our work. We wanted to showcase how common and normal they really are to help you hopefully feel less alone and perhaps more comforted.
