You know the moment: The chaos is building, your patience is gone, you’re overstimulated and overtouched — and the next tiny thing pushes you over the edge.

You snap. You yell. You slam a drawer. You cry in the closet.

And immediately, the shame floods in. “What is wrong with me? Why can’t I keep it together?”

If you’ve ever been there — you’re not alone. And more importantly — you’re not a bad mom.

Today we’re going to:

• Talk about what rage is really trying to tell you
• Use the Life Mentoring School tools of emotional ownership and nervous system awareness
• Walk through a safe-space journaling practice to move through emotion without guilt
• And gently anchor our hearts back in truth

If you’ve ever had a moment — or a hundred — where you thought,

“I’m messing this up.” “I’m not doing enough.” “I’m failing as a mom…”

— then this episode is for you.

I want to gently remind you: That voice in your head is not always telling the truth. And today, we’re going to journal through that together.

We’ll explore:

• Why negative self-talk feels so convincing (and what it really costs us)
• A guided journaling practice to help shift your perspective
• And how to anchor back into God’s truth about who you are and what you’re building — even when you can’t see the fruit yet.

So take a breath, grab your journal, and let’s rewrite the story you’re telling yourself — one word at a time.

Guided Journaling Exercise:

At the top, write:

✍🏼 “What am I telling myself about my motherhood right now?”

Let it all out. The raw, messy, “not pretty” thoughts. This is the awareness without judgment we practice in LMS.

Now I want you to ask:

✍🏼 “Is that actually true? Or just what I feel right now?”

Next, begin to shift with this prompt:

✍🏼 “What am I doing well that I’ve been overlooking?”

Let me help you get started:

• Did you show up again today even though you’re tired?
• Did you make your kids laugh?
• Did you apologize?
• Did you pray?
• Did you keep going?

You might not see it, but God does.

Galatians 6:9 says:

“Let us not grow weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”

You may not see the fruit yet, but your faithfulness matters.

One more writing prompt to take it deeper:

✍🏼 “If I spoke to myself the way I speak to my child when they feel discouraged, what would I say?”

This is where we bring in grace-based thought work. We replace lies with loving, biblical truth.

2. What would grace say to me in this season of motherhood?
3. What does God say about my identity — and how can I mother from that truth instead of fear?

Today’s episode is for the mom who’s tired. Not just “I need a nap” tired, but soul-weary. You’ve been running on empty for so long that exhaustion feels like your baseline.

If you’re listening to this with a deep sigh — maybe even some tears — I want to tell you right now: You are not lazy. You are not weak. You are carrying more than anyone sees, and today we’re going to make space for that.

We all carry things we were never meant to carry forever: Old regrets. Fears about the future. Hurts from the past. Expectations we’ve outgrown.

And sometimes, without even realizing it, we’re dragging around heavy weights that are keeping us stuck — weights that God is gently asking us to release.

Today’s episode is all about how journaling can become a powerful practice for surrender — for laying down what no longer serves you, and receiving instead the peace that passes understanding.

Guided Journaling Session:

You can pause after each prompt and write, or just listen through now and come back when you’re ready.

Settle into your seat. Take a deep breath in... and out. Feel your body grounded where you are. Feel God's love all around you.

Let’s begin.

Prompt 1: What am I carrying right now that feels heavy on my heart? (Be honest. Write it all down — even the messy, complicated feelings.)

Prompt 2: What regrets or fears am I still rehearsing in my mind? (Write freely. No judgment. Just notice what surfaces.)

Prompt 3: What is something I know, deep down, that I cannot control — but I keep trying to? (A person’s actions? A past event? The outcome of a situation?)

Prompt 4: What would it feel like to lay this burden down at the feet of Jesus? (Imagine yourself letting Him hold it instead.)

Prompt 5: What new thought could I practice that would help me trust and find peace today? (Some examples:

• “God is working this together for my good.”
• “I can love and let go at the same time.”
• “I am safe in His hands.”)

Pause.

Sit for a moment with whatever surfaced.

Notice if your body feels any lighter. Notice if there’s a little more room to breathe.

Friend, this is the work of surrender. Not all at once. Not perfectly.

Just a little bit more open-hearted every day.

There’s something sacred about a letter. Letters slow us down. They help us connect with what matters. They give us a focused space to be honest, compassionate, and reflective. And when used intentionally in your journaling, they can become powerful tools for healing, clarity, identity, and even transformation.

Today, we’re going to talk about three ways you can use letter writing in your journal:

- Letters to your past self

- Letters to your present self

- Letters to your future self

And we’ll also talk about the healing power of unsent letters—the ones you write, not to send, but to release.

Hi friend, and welcome back to The Journaling Room. I’m your host, Kendall Snyder, and today we’re talking about a powerful, life-giving practice: journaling for emotional regulation.

Now before that phrase intimidates you, let me break it down. Emotional regulation simply means: being able to name, feel, and respond to your emotions in a healthy way.

We all experience intense emotions—sadness, fear, shame, frustration, disappointment—and sometimes we aren’t even sure why they hit us so hard. But when we don’t know how to process them, we tend to do one of two things: suppress them or act out of them. Either way, they end up running the show.

And that’s where journaling comes in.

Identify – Name – Validate – Shift

Let’s break it down:

1. Identify the emotion.

Pause and ask: What am I actually feeling right now?

Write down the raw, honest answer. Not what you think you should feel. What you do feel.

2. Name it specifically.

Instead of saying “bad” or “upset,” try to name the more specific emotion:

- Is it guilt?

- Is it fear of rejection?

- Is it embarrassment?

This helps your brain narrow in and make sense of it.

3. Validate it.

Write this: “It makes sense that I feel this way because…”

Give yourself permission. You’re not wrong for having the emotion. Even if the story behind it isn’t fully true—your emotion is valid.

4. Shift it (gently).

Once the emotion has been seen and felt, ask:

“What do I want to believe right now?” or “What emotion would help me respond with wisdom or courage?”

You're not bypassing the hard feeling. You're just asking: Now that I’ve felt it—what’s the next best step?
