On this episode of The Karen Kenney Show, I tell a story about how I often talk about “Today me, thanking ‘younger me’ – for decisions that I’ve made.”
Which led me to discussing the powerful process created by Richard Schwartz - called Internal Family Systems (IFS) – also known as “Parts work.”
I share how it’s so important for us to have self-compassion when reflecting on our younger selves.
I also dive deeper into the different categories of our various “Parts”, why they often get created, and removing the blocks and barriers that prevent us from accessing our true “capital S” Self.
I also highlight the significance of the true Self and break down the eight qualities it embodies, like curiosity, calm, clarity, courage and more!
By applying these IFS principles, we can cultivate a deeper understanding and acceptance of our past selves.
This self-compassion can then empower us to integrate those younger parts and move forward with more wholeness and self-love. It's a powerful process of inner healing and growth.
If you want to learn more about how to better understand and compassionately engage with the younger you – whether that was the you from 20 minutes or 20 years ago – this episode is for you!
KEY POINTS:
• Embracing Younger You
• Cultivate Compassion, Not Criticism
• Understand Your Exiled Parts
• Unburden Your Protective Parts
• Embody Your True Self Qualities
• Investing in Your Own Growth + Healing

On this episode of The Karen Kenney Show, I share a story about the New England ritual of changing out our seasonal clothes.
When I did this recently, I found a few items that inspired me to stop waiting for the right time or special occasion to wear them.
I also discuss how this is tied to my recent deeper reflections on my own mortality, and how I want to spend the time I have left on the planet.
I encourage my listeners to consider how now is the time to take action on your passions, your purpose, and those projects that you might keep delaying!
I also emphasize the importance of telling people we love them, not putting things off and why we should just “Wear the damn socks!”

On this episode of The Karen Kenney Show, I talk about if what you’re doing is worth your time.
Meaning, that it’s important to take the time to evaluate the effectiveness of your “practices” – spiritual and otherwise.
I also discuss and distinguish the difference between theoretical knowledge and practical application.
It’s one thing to try and consume a bunch of information – it’s a totally different thing to actually integrate it into your life.
The bottom line is this… if what you’re doing isn’t creating positive changes in you, your thinking, your behavior, or your life…
Then it just might be time for a new practice!
And hopefully you’re choosing one that cultivate more unity and compassion, and lean more in the direction of Love.
KEY POINTS:
• Evaluate the Effectiveness
• DSP – Daily Spiritual Practice
• Theoretical Knowledge
• Practical Application
• Information vs. Integration
• Practices for Challenging Times
• Lean Toward Love

On this episode of The Karen Kenney Show, I tell a little story about my desire to "think something new - about something old!"
And whether the “old thing” that we wish to see through a new lens - is an old belief, mental pattern, behavioral habit, or a repeated story about ourself or others…
Being able to shift our mind to see anew, is a wicked important part of personal growth and transformational work.
I discuss some of my observations of how people often speak to themselves in unkind, or critical ways. (ouchie)
So, I encourage you, dear listeners, to pause and notice your habitual thought patterns, and then use simple techniques to “interrupt” those well-worn grooves!
I also outline my helpful 4-step process that I use with my Spiritual Mentoring clients called: “Your Story to Your Glory.”
Lastly, I invite wonderful YOU to question your beliefs, be super curious, and have the willingness to think, believe, and grow in fun new ways!

On this episode of The Karen Kenney Show, I tell a personal story that exemplifies the concept of "Spiritual Team on the Job" (STOTJ).
I'll recount a series of events - that lead to a wicked fun ending - that are linked together through a chain of unlikely occurrences.
We talk about how having a Daily Spiritual Practice (DSP) has helped me to stay present, reduce anxiety, and maintain the “faith” - even during challenging times.
I also share about recognizing synchronistic "STOTJ" moments, and how I experience them as evidence that something loves me.
I touch upon the power of positive self-talk and how I now recognize that negative self-talk, is really an “internalized voice” from my childhood that never really belonged to me.
I also dive into how personal development work is not so much about becoming something new...
But rather it's about removing the barriers that prevent us from recognizing the Love we already are and the support we already have.
I wrap this episode up with the importance of Spiritual Community and the benefits and value of being part of a group like The Nest!
QUICK KEY POINTS:
• Embracing a DSP (Daily Spiritual Practice)
• Recognizing STOTJ (Spiritual Team on the Job) Moments
• Rejecting Negative Self-Talk Patterns
• Cultivating Supportive Community Connections
• Removing the Blocks to Love
• Trusting Life's "Synchronicities"

On this episode of The Karen Kenney Show, I share an idea that’s inspired by one of the “ass kickers” on my Spiritual Team, David Goggins!
I discuss the concept of "one second decisions" and how the quick choices we make - can have long-lasting impact!
I also explore the common struggles and temptations we face when we’re working on new habits, big projects, or pursuing our dreams.
And how easy it can be when we start to feel uncomfortable, to make a decision to quit.
But that’s when we have to remember why we started the project, the training, the relationship, or that goal in the first place!
I also talk about how using tools like meditation, breathwork, and mantras can help us to support our nervous system and avoid self-sabotage.
Finally, I encourage us all to make positive one-second decisions that align with our values and lead us in the direction of personal growth and transformation!
KEY POINTS:
• Embrace one-second decisions
• Remember your "why"
• Avoid self-sabotage
• Utilize helpful tools
• Build lasting habits
• Choose growth mindset

On this episode of The Karen Kenney Show, I’m exploring the concept of "when helping hurts."
And how even our well-intentioned efforts to help others can sometimes do more harm than good.
I springboard off of the idea from the old quote, "The road to hell is paved with good intentions.”
And I highlight how the outcomes we hope for, can differ from the original intent behind our “helping” actions.
I also share a few examples of misguided help, and how it can affect both humans and animals.
We’ll explore how helping can even become enabling or codependent - preventing people from facing the consequences of their choices and learning from their experiences.
Karen also discusses how helping can sometimes be a distraction from one's own personal issues, rather than a genuine desire to assist others.
I love humans that want to help, and…. we need to be self-aware about our own motivations and the negative impact that sometimes arises from well-intentioned help.
KEY POINTS:
• Unsolicited Help
• Intervening + Interventions
• Codependence + Enabling
• Help as a Distraction

On this episode of The Karen Kenney Show, I’m reflecting on my own mortality (and others) and our last communications.
I talk about how we never know when or what our last words given or received might be.
And how the quality and tone of our last communications with loved ones matter because they might unknowingly be our final words to each other.
I also share about the emotional intelligence and maturity required to communicate effectively with one another, even when we’re pissed off or in the middle of a conflict.
I also encourage us to reflect on some of the last words we’ve said or written to the important people in our life and to consider if they truly reflect our genuine feelings.
If not, maybe now is the perfect time to take a few moments to send some love their way! xo

Today on The Karen Kenney Show, I’m sharing a sharing a simple, yet effective tool I often use to overcome resistance and take some action.
I discuss when, why, and how I use this tool and the importance of creating what’s called “a bias towards action”!
I’ll also explain how this wicked easy to use tool has helped me to interrupt the brain’s habit of overthinking and to beat that system we have in our head, that often stops us from taking action.
This sucker is great for when you’re feeling resistance or dragging your feet, even though you know you want or need to get things done.
This powerful pattern interrupt is especially helpful when you need to "knock it off" and get your ass in gear!
I hope you’ll give it a try and then let me know how it works for you!
KEY POINTS:
• A Helpful Tool
• Brain Overthinks
• Get It In Gear
• Feeling Resistance
