Alberta just drew a line in the sand — and Ottawa isn't going to like it.

On March 18, 2026, Premier Danielle Smith introduced Bill 18: the Safeguards for Last Resort Termination of Life Act. It restricts MAiD (Medical Assistance in Dying) to those with a 12-month prognosis, bans it for mental illness as a sole condition, and prohibits doctors from ever suggesting death to a patient who hasn't asked.

As a veteran who has walked through trauma and dark terrain, I know what it means when the system stops offering hope. This isn't just policy — this is a rescue mission.

The federal government has delayed MAiD for mental illness until March 2027. Alberta isn't waiting to see what happens next.

Trump keeps calling Canada the 51st state and everyone's laughing. I'm not. As a veteran who's watched this country hollow out from the inside — the military crisis, the MAID-over-care policy, 108,000 jobs lost — this isn't a punchline. It's a pattern.

Pierre went on Rogan and told Trump to knock it off. Great. What happens when he doesn't? We have no pipeline leverage. No energy plan B. A military in readiness crisis. And a government that thinks Davos is the answer.

Sovereignty isn't a slogan. It's what you do with trade, defense, and your own people. And right now, Canada is failing all three.

I'm saying the uncomfortable part out loud — because someone has to.
