General materials needed to construct a lifestyle bed using this design:
iron bed rails bolt on style (use length for the mattress you own-75" twin/full; 80" queen/king)
4 4x4x8 for posts
5 2x8x8 mattress rails, pillow rail
4 2x6x8 canopy rails

5 or 6 1x4x8 ideally oak or pine with no knots for mattress rail slats

Headboard/footboard designs (others only need imagination)
St. Andrews Cross
A Frame
Ladder Back

Footboard will require 1 or 2 more 2x6x8
Headboard will require 2x4x8 to asthetically match the footboard design

Note the raised cage bed I described will not use iron bedrails, but will use the 1x2"s Lady Petra mentioned and a solid piece of plywood for the foundation to sit on. It will also have a 2x4 the length of the middle of the mattress foundation from headboard to footboard for support.
