  • Father Dom Homily 5/16

    You asked...we delivered!

Many have been asking if Fr. Dom could start recording his homilies and post them to the podcast. And the answer is 100% yes!

Fr. Dom gives fantastic homilies and I am glad he is doing this so we can start sharing them with the world.

I will be posting these as much as possible, most likely one day after the homily was recorded given my current recording and editing constraints so I do apologize for the delay.

But, you will not be disappointed. Enjoy!

  • Ep 73 - Blast from the Past: Jesse Romero, Fire-breathing Catholic

Jesse Romero is back! Now, this is a past episode, but after re-listening to it you will be fired up to go out there and preach about Jesus! From personal stories about his time as a cop encountering the devil to powerful messages to motivate men, this episode packs a punch, literally and figuratively. It is no wonder this episode garnished over 10k views on YouTube!

To quote Mr. Romero directly from his website: “If your parish suffers from low energy, call me, I can jump-start it. I’m a full Gospel, Bible Believing, Born Again, Spirit Filled, Evangelical, Orthodox Catholic Christian, washed and empowered by the blood of Jesus.  With a Bible in one hand, with a rosary in my other hand, and with Jesus in my heart, you will hear the fullness of the Catholic faith in an evangelical style with devil-destroying theology.”

You won't want to miss this epic episode.

  • Ep 72 - Dr. Kevin Vost, May He Rest in Peace

For those who haven't heard, Dr. Kevin Vost passed away in early April of 2023. He was an amazing men who was passionate about fitness, health, and nutrition. Most importantly, he loved the Lord and the Catholic Church. It is for this reason we are re-publishing this episode with him as a smallest form of gratitude we can offer. Please be praying for the repose of his soul and his family during this time.

If you like fitness, Old Fashioneds, and eating food, this is the episode for you! Join James and Dr. Kevin Vost as they journey through the minefield that is nutrition in this crazy internet crazy age where every 5-minutes a new diet comes out. James and Dr. Vost also touch on the importance of fitness for your spiritual life, why St. Thomas Aquinas brought Kevin out of atheism, and why Kevin is thankful the Internet was not mainstream 20 years ago.

Dr. Kevin Vost, Psy.D., was the author of twenty books including Memorize the Faith! and How to Think Like Aquinas and has taught psychology at Aquinas College in Nashville, Tennessee, the University of Illinois at Springfield, Lincoln Land Community College, and MacMurray College. He was a member of the Research Review Committee for American Mensa, which promotes the scientific study of human intelligence.

Find all of Dr. Vost's books on Amazon here.

For the book we discuss in particular, be sure to purchase it through Sophia Press here!

  • Ep 71 - The Fearless Heart: How Vulnerability Unleashes Your Superpower with John Edwards

Do any of you go to a men's group? Does your parish even have a men's group? Or maybe you do go but they just flick on a video made by somebody else and that's it? The video might pump you up for 1/2 a day and then it fades and nothing in your life changes.

Now, don't get me wrong, I am not faulting the creators of these men's groups because there are some amazing ones out there. However, for the majority of men, this simply does not work. Think about it. If you are the lucky few who actually have a men's group, is it well attended? Think of all the men in your parish...what percentage are going? 10%? 20%?

Men, we NEED fraternity. We NEED our brothers. We NEED a change. Step in John Edwards.

If you don't know John, I invite you to check out episode 37 here. John is an amazing man and is doing incredible things over at Just A Guy In The Pew. Check out his website here.

In this episode, find out why men's groups need to be different and how John introduces a different way based on the four pillars Jesus shared with His disciples. You won't want to miss this one!

  • Ep 70 - The Sum of All Fears

Do you guys ever become afraid? Do you ever freeze? Fail to act when you know you should have? Or maybe you just are afraid of having that difficult conversation that you know you should have had 3 weeks ago. Whatever the case may be, we are afraid far too often. And that is this week’s episode.

Dan poses the question, "Is it ever okay to watch scary movies? As with every good answer, it depends. Does it bring you closer to God? Does it serve as mere entertainment? Or, does it drive you further from God or lead you down a darker path?

Fear can drive us into action or paralyze us into inaction. It can devour us and all our waking thoughts or it can take us to our knees and give it all up to God. How we respond to fear tells a lot about how we will respond to life itself.

Join James and Dan on this week's episode to discuss those scary movies, what James and Dan fear the most, and why fear is the work of the devil.

CHALLENGE: This week, go to adoration. Could be 1 hour or even 5 minutes. Talk to God about your fears. Identify them. Name them. Give them to Jesus.

Do not be afraid. He has overcome the world.

  • Ep 69 - Know Thy Enemy, Know Thyself

Have you all tried to ask for a raise? Maybe you have played sports in the past and had a big competition on the horizon? Or maybe you were actually in the military on deployment. Whatever the case might be, you prepared for it, didn’t you? You studied your competition. What makes them tick? What are their strengths? What are their weaknesses? How can I come out on top?

You knew your enemy. Now, of course, your boss isn’t your enemy. Nor is the other team or competition you faced. The actual enemy, is Satan. Whether you know it or not, Satan is coming for you. There is a competition for your soul between Jesus and the devil.

“The Art of War” by Sun Tzu: “If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither yourself or the enemy, you will succumb in every battle.”

In this episode, we talk about Satan. In episodes 16 and 17, we talk about Spiritual Warfare and in Episode 44 we talked about Satan’s 5 Generals. Keep listening to hear about the true enemy and why knowing him makes a whole lot more sense when looking at what is going on in the world today.

Fr. Dom Challenge: He REALLY loves confession. Not only does he want you to go once, but times that by two. Be extra holy to prepare for Lent men.

  • Ep 68 - Horses and Corpses with Dan McNally

In this conversation, James and The Manly Catholic introduce you to Dan McNally, former Theology teacher turned physical therapist. James met Dan as a new employee here in Grand Rapids and they instantly connected based on their love for Jesus, the Church, and their rugged rosaries.

Throughout this conversation, James and Dan discuss 7 common misconceptions about the Catholic Church, how a Pope actually dug up his predecessor and put him on trial, and why actually knowing what the Church teaches will embolden your faith, not diminish it.

James's challenge: Buy a Catechism (if you have not already!). Then, subscribe to Father Mike Schmitz's "Catechism in a Year."
