  • Ep 55 - Interview with Ryan Young, Camp Veritas, Part 2!

He's back! Welcome back Ryan Young who had to abruptly end our first interview due to a 2-year-old ending up in Urgent Care with stitches. Thankfully, all is well and okay with his family!

In this episode, James and Ryan discuss the old adage "Happy wife, happy life" is a dangerous phrase, why asking your spouse monthly what you can improve can decrease your risk of divorce, and why there are never any accidents. Ryan also shares the incredible story on how Camp Veritas went overseas to Ireland.

  • Ep 54 - Interview with John Horvat, Vice President of TFP

In this interview, James sits down with John Horvat, Vice President of Tradition, Family, and Property (TFP). TFP is "an organization of lay Catholic Americans concerned about the moral crisis shaking the remnants of Christian civilization. Its earliest origins date back to January 1971, when the first TFP members started to group around the publication Crusade for a Christian Civilization. Today, with over 120,000 active members, volunteers and donors, the TFP is on the front lines of the Culture War, peacefully defending the values of tradition, family and private ownership."

John is a deep thinker who offers great insight on the challenges men face today and the wonderful work that TFP does in the community, especially on campuses across the country!

  • Ep 53 - Are You Still There? Part 2 on the Synod on Synodality Listening Sessions

Ryan and James discuss on this episode the Synod on Synodality listening sessions, specifically here at St. Roberts in Ada. According to the USCCB website, the Synod on Synodality:

    • The Synod on Synodality is a two-year process of listening and dialogue beginning with a solemn opening in Rome on October 9 and 10, 2021 with each individual diocese and church celebrating the following week on October 17. The synodal process will conclude in 2023. Pope Francis invites the entire Church to reflect on a theme that is decisive for its life and mission: “It is precisely this path of synodality which God expects of the Church of the third millennium.” This journey, which follows in the wake of the Church’s “renewal” proposed by the Second Vatican Council, is both a gift and a task: by journeying together and reflecting together on the journey that has been made, the Church will be able to learn through Her experience which processes can help Her to live communion, to achieve participation, to open Herself to mission.

In short, the Church is inviting lay people to give their input on how the Church can improve in various aspects. In this episode, Ryan and James specifically talk about the topics relating to listening and dialogue in the Church and society and engaging more families. Remember men, our priests, bishops, and the Pope have to answer to Christ, not us.

James' Challenge: Pray specifically for the Holy Spirit to come and guide you every day this week.

    Go woke, you go broke.

Woke culture is a phrase we hear often if we have listened to any sort of political or social commentary. You probably have heard how sports or businesses or people have "gone woke."

But what does that actually mean? What does it mean to "be woke?" How can we, as Catholics, respond to this woke culture?

That is exactly what Father Dom and James discuss on this weeks episode.

  • Ep 49 - Interview with Ryan Young - Camp Veritas

In this episode, James is joined by Ryan Young, founder of Camp Veritas, a Catholic Summer Camp for teens 12-18. Ryan is a man who has lived many lives, as he puts it. From briefly meeting his future spouse at a college meet-and-greet and knowing he was going to marry her to working as a Physician's Assistant in New York, Ryan is a doer. Husband and father to 8-children, Ryan's life is so busy he had to cut the interview short due to a little one needing stitches!

During their discussion, Ryan and James speak about the four greatest challenges men face in this day and age, the biggest threats to boys becoming men, and how God rewards the proactive. Ryan is a man who believes there are no accidents and it is evident by the way he speaks about his faith and the Church.

“There is nothing more delusional in the universe to think your opinion actually matters.” Ryan Young

  • Ep 48 - Levels of Prayer - Part 2

Part 2 has arrived! No Avicii references this time around...I promise. In this episode, James and Ryan continue their discussion and dive into the various levels of prayer, including touching on some mystical levels we don't really know a heck of a lot about. We can dare to become like one of these mystics and enter the inner depths of the soul to reach these levels of mastery in prayer.

    • Here is how you do Mental Prayer:
      • Prepare: Place yourself in God's presence and pray for the grace to meditate
      • Begin the meditation
      • Reflect on particular subject, some truth of God or the Faith (more on this later)
      • Examine yourself in relation to this truth
      • Think of how you can improve in this aspect
      • Affections like sorrow for sin, hope in God, and love arise in your heart from considering the subject of your meditation
      • Offer petitions in your heart to God: for people in your life, for yourself, your family, your enemies, for the Church, and so on
      • Resolve to conquer your main vice or grow in a needed virtue
      • Conclusion: Thank God for the graces He gave you

Ryan's Challenge: Evaluate your current level, and level up to the next one. Click on resource 1 or 2 below to read more bout the levels and decide where you are at currently in your prayer life.

  • Ep 47 - Avicii of Prayer - Part 1

Okay...full disclosure. James and Ryan will be discussing the Levels of Prayer in an epic 2-part series starting today! Am I the only one that instantly thought of Avicii's Levels when you think of that? Yes? Crickets.....okay then :(. For those of you who want to enjoy it, here's a link.

Back to the meat and potatoes, James and Ryan do a deeeep dive into the different levels of prayer. In Part 1, they give you an overview of the 3-different "ways" of prayer as well as all nine levels before teasing you with only levels 1-2. They also discuss Ryan's checklist for mental prayer, which you can find here:

    • Here is how you do Mental Prayer:
      • Prepare: Place yourself in God's presence and pray for the grace to meditate
      • Begin the meditation
