  • Boiled Frogs and Goldilocks (TMB118)
We have all heard the admittedly morbid parable of boiled frogs. That is, if you put a frog in boiling water, he will jump right out. But if you put him in cool water and then heat it to a boil, the frog will remain in the water . Whether you have heard of the frogs parable or not, you are certainly aware of the story of Goldilocks and her need to find the porridge, chair, or bed that is "just right."
On today's podcast, Dr. Berney and Dr. Richard talk about these parables and the lessons they teach us as parents. They encourage us to be mindful of the "slow boil" that changes parents' expectations and results in us moving away from the perspectives that are "just right."

Welcome to The Mental Breakdown Morning Show! Each weekday morning, we will to help get your day off to a great start. This week on the show, we will be talking about five critical ages at which particular skills and abilities should be attained. By age 5, children are starting to enter the next major phase of life - school. To be successful at school, though, children must be able to control their emotions. Each weekday morning, we will to help get your day off to a great start. This week on the show, we will be talking about five critical ages at which particular skills and abilities should be attained. On today's show we talked about the critical age of three. By the age of three, children should be able to do many things, including walking and talking. But another important developmental milestone for this age is toilet training. Opportunities for social interactions become affected when children are not toilet trained, so it is critical that parents work to prepare their children for this transition.
