The guys rolled into the studio this week with Tropical Storm Ian on their minds – depending on the model, the First Coast may be dealing with a serious storm within the next week. One of the guys has a really bad feeling about this one…listen in to find out who’s shakin’ in their snake boots.
But aside from the storm, there was a lot to cover, and it was a blast to talk about all of it…and as you would guess, things got a bit sideways at times. SO MUCH FUN!

Here’s your Kirbyco Builders Inc. cooking tip of the week from Captain Kirk: Southern Lobster Mac and Cheese (he says it gets more than one star, don’t worry!
Capt. Kevin and Capt. Scott spent this episode talking about the mullet run and tarpon, as you would guess. But unfortunately, the rain. Yes, that. Here’s to wishing for the tarpon to stay and the rain to go, even though it’s beginning to look like it’s happening the other way around.
How much time do we have left? Listen in to get the forecast and find out…
In our latest episode (OS 1236), Capt. Kirk dropped the best reference EVER: the poem “Gunga Din” by Rudyard Kipling. Since he’s the most cultured of all of us, Chris the Producer recorded a reading of that poem for your listening pleasure.
Enjoy!
What an amazing week for the guys! The fishing was great – Capt. Kirk had a spectacular sailfish story and Jeff had a terrific tarpon tale. And as for the hunting, bow season opened up in Georgia – and Capt. Kevin wasted no time putting some brown down. !
And throw in a stroll down memory lane with American Graffiti, Hee Haw and Sha Na Na, and you’ve got one heck of good listen. Throw in Kirk’s “Gunga Din” reference, and you’ve got yourself an all-timer! (BTW – if you want to check out the poem by Rudyard Kipling, read it here)
Here’s your L.V. Hiers gear tip of the week: For all you guys out there here’s a manly man’s “murse” or man purse – the REEBOW GEAR Tactical Sling Bag Military Single Shoulder Backpack. Comes in 2 colors.

Here’s your Ring Power CAT tip of the week: With the mullet run in full swing and the inlets closed due to NE wind, your next best option is bridges! If you want to catch flounder, reds, jacks or tarpon fish around the bridges…live mullet is a great bait but cut bait and chunks of crab work just as well!
Here’s your Kirbyco Builders Inc. cooking tip of the week: Oldie but a goodie… Do yourself a favor and order some Zero bars from Amazon and then put them in the freezer.
AND…just in case you were looking for an actual COOKING tip, here it is:
If you need to soften butter quickly but don’t want to MELT it, Put boiling hot water in a glass to heat the glass. Dump the water out and flip it over your stick of butter. In a few minutes it will be perfectly soft to use!
Since Capt. Ricky was out of town for a while this past week, it was up to Capt. Kevin and Capt. Scott to talk about the crazy changes in the weather. The difference between the beginning and middle of the week was NUTS!
Listen in to get the stories, and more importantly, find out just how screwy the next seven days are going to be…
Today’s show was a good one – LOTS of great stuff to talk about!
Here’s your L.V. Hiers gear tip of the week: The Hawk Big Denali Luxury Blind Chair is one bada$$ chair for hunting, ball games, back porch, whatever! Get it for $130 here: https://a.co/d/ipVEXu2
Here’s your Ring Power CAT tip of the week: This is THE time of year to tarpon fish. The best part is you don’t have to leave the inlet. The mullet run is in full swing and the tarpon are piled up around the inlets and the sounds. Number one tip! Match the hatch. If they are feeding on small mullet, use small baits. If they are feeding on big baits, throw big baits!
Here’s your Kirbyco Builders cooking tip of the week from our show producer, Chris: If you’ve been holding out an air fryer because the basket was just too small, it’s time to pull the trigger. This Ninja Foodi has two baskets you can use independently or simultaneously. Fry a meat and a side, or reheat a Lageman-sized portion of Angies Subs Official Page fries!
It was back to full strength for the team, with Capt. Kevin, Capt. Scott, and Capt. Ricky (a.k.a. “Hollywood”) back in the studio. They had a lot of fishing to talk about…once Scott finished pontificating about the passing of Queen Elizabeth (no, that’s not a typo).
The big topic, of course, was the mullet run, which is officially in full swing. The interesting part is that it fired up without the weather really tipping anyone off. Listen in to find out why that’s so strange…and if the weather’s going to tip us off to how the fishing’s going to be in the upcoming week.
The guys were back in the saddle with big grins on their faces. Why all the smiles? Between the past few weeks of fishing and the upcoming hunting season, how could they NOT smile?
So, as you would guess, there was all kinds of typical outdoors talk. Throw in a bunch of sideways stuff (like a huge discussion about hot dogs vs. corn dogs), and you’ve got yourself one heck of a good listen!
Here’s your L.V. Hiers gear tip of the week: If you’re thinking about getting a new ladder stand… Try the secure X-Stand… you’ll love it!

Here’s your Ring Power CAT tip of the week: Mullet are really pouring out of the river going South. Now is the time to brine some and freeze them for Bull Red season!
Here’s your Kirbyco Builders, Inc. cooking tip of the week: Brother Love’s pretzel dip
Equal parts Mayo and Sour Cream (ex. 1 cup Mayo and 1 cup Sour Cream)
Tablespoon of Garlic Powder
Tablespoon of Black Pepper
1/4 cup-1/2 cup of Parmesan Cheese ( I use the fine stuff not the real but real would prob. be good)
One jar of Banana Pepper rings chopped
1/2 cup to Cup of Feta cheese crumbles ( I like to make it more fine so it spreads throughout more evenly)
Enjoy
Capt. Kevin and Capt. Scott were talking about transitions this week – from weather to fishing to…Capt. Scott’s diet! SPOILER ALERT: they spent very little time on Scott’s diet (thankfully).
Find out what those transitions were, if they’ll continue, and how the forecast is going to play a part in all of it.
With the Jags’ season gearing up, it’s more and more common for Jeff to be out, and this was one of those weeks. With him in Atlanta, the episode was in the capable hands of Capt. Kevin and Capt. Kirk. That’s a good thing, because they had plenty of outstanding fishing to talk about.
If you’re a buffet kind of person, you’re going to love this show! So many calls, so many topics, and all kinds of info, insight, and stories. There’s something for everyone in this one. Like Kevin says…GOOD STUFF!
