You remember how it felt around Christmas time when you were a kid? Back then, it truly was “the most wonderful time of the year”! But for all of us who love the outdoors, we’re smack in the middle of the holiday season – it’s an amazing time for fishing, and hunting is just around the corner! If you’re into good stories, as well as a couple stomach-turners, THIS is the episode for you.
Sailfish, spanish, tarpon, jacks, kings, sharks (of course) – it has been CRAZY good for First Coast anglers this week. There’s all kinds of bait everywhere, and in a related story, approximately two million mullet have been certified insane as well…exciting stuff!
On the hunting side of things, trail cams are going off non-stop, snapping pic after pic of bucks that are…well, feeling a bit excited, if you know what we mean. It’s going to be a GREAT season!
Here’s your L.V. Hiers gear tip of the week From Captain Chip Wingo: A Barracuda Tackle magnet. Right up Kirk’s alley!

Here’s your Ring Power CAT tip of the week: Now is a great time of year to access your buck population. Right now bucks are still in bachelor groups and like each other. Start putting those cameras up and see what you have. If you’d like to share, we love trail cam photos!
Here’s your Kirbyco Builders Inc. cooking tip of the week: Garlic Chicken StirFry
Stir fry veggies in oil until done and remove.
Sauté chicken chunks until slightly brown and RE-add the veggies.
Add garlic, soy sauce, chicken broth and heat on low.
Add honey then slowly incorporate corn starch until it thickens.
Serve over sticky rice and enjoy!
Capt. Kevin and Capt. Scott were handling this episode without the help of Capt. Ricky, who had something on his last nerve. Turns out it was a bone or something…yep, a pinched nerve sidelined him this week. OUCH!
Shifting the matter at hand, the guys couldn’t get over the weather, and they kicked around the idea that this may very well be the most pleasant August they can remember. What about you? Can you remember a better August than this one?
Of course, the biggest question is this: will this pleasant trend continue, or will “Ugly August” rear it’s hot, nasty head? Listen in to find out…
For the first time in months – literally months – all three of the guys were back together in the studio! They had a lot to catch up on, and a lot to talk about because it’s really turning into an interesting August. Listen in to find out why!
As usual, this episode has lots of info and tips, but the real treat is listening to how many times this thing tried to go sideways. Are you ready to laugh? If not, take a moment to prepare yourself…
Here’s your L.V. Hiers gear tip of the week: Jeff’s favorite fishing shirt for sun protection is the hoodie version from Huk Gear. They have the best selection at Hagan Coastal Outfitters!
Here’s your Ring Power CAT tip of the week from Dave Edwards: Cast net maintenance – Hand Wash net in a bucket of water/Spray Nine. Rinse good. Soak in fabric softener/water overnight. Rinse, hang dry = Like new net!
Here’s your Kirbyco Builders Inc. cooking tip of the week: Spice up your foodie life with these sliced medium heat jalapeños from Mezzetta! Go “hot” if you like… but you may regret it later!!
After taking a week off to watch the Hall of Fame Game, Capt. Kevin, Capt. Scott and Capt. Ricky were back in action to talk about getting back in business with some big fish. Listen in to find out what was hooking up, what the boys were using, and most importantly, what you can expect to be catching in the upcoming week.
Jeff was up north in Canton to be a part of Tony Boselli’s Hall of Fame induction, so he REALLY missed out – Capt. Kirk was back!
It was great to have him back in the studio, and it was a perfect time to come back, because First Coast fishing is SOOOOOOOOO good! Capt. Kevin, Capt. Kirk and special guest Capt. Rich Gray talked all about what’s happening in the water.
Fishing wasn’t the only topic of conversation, however. Bow season is coming, and the guys had a lot of great stuff to talk about as they get ready to let some arrows fly.
Finally, Jeff did call in to share everything happening in Canton. Really cool stuff…
Here’s your L.V. Hiers gear tip of the week: Get yourself an arrow puller from Strike-Zone Fishing Jacksonville. The perfect tool to use when you’re practicing.
Here’s your Ring Power CAT tip of the week from Captain Kevin: There are a lot of big kingfish on the beach. The big females are spawning right now on the beach. If possible when you catch a 25 plus… let her go. Most of those big fish will become docile after they fight. Grab her by the tail, take a quick picture and gently let her go! Bodes well for the future!
Here’s your Kirbyco Builders Inc. cooking tip of the week: Always need ziplocs to put fresh fish or venison in. Captain Kirk buys in bulk. 250 count $30 on Amazon.
With Capt. Kirk out and Chris the producer away helping some folks out, the spotlight rested squarely on the shoulders of Capt. Kevin and Jeff…who, as you would have guessed, had a ball driving the show.
Here’s your L.V. Hiers gear tip of the week: Go get this ceramic knife from Hagan Coastal Outfitters. Jeff says it’s the perfect knife for your boat or kayak because it’s super sharp, it won’t rust and it’s ten bucks!!

Here’s your Ring Power CAT tip of the week: We know it’s hot and sometimes we forget but Georgia bow season is right around the corner. Just 6 weeks away. Make sure you have your bow tuned properly. Rick Stinson at Strike-Zone Fishing Jacksonville works on all of our bows and is the best!
Here’s your KirbyCo Builders Cooking tip of the week: check out our Facebook post for “Laverne’s Pimento Cheese” recipe!
Capt. Scott was back after his illness, so the studio was back to full capacity with Capt. Kevin and Capt. Ricky. Unfortunately, there weren’t too many fantastic tales to tell, as things were…well, just okay.
BUT, the forecast is looking to change all that. Or is it? You’ll have to listen in to find out.
With Capt. Kirk still out and about, Jeff and Capt. Kevin welcomed in some good friends – Capt. Chip Wingo and Dave Edwards – to fill up the studio and have a blast!
The conversation went from hunting to fishing to ICAST (Jeff was there again this year) to…well, you’ll need to listen to find out.
Here’s your L.V. Hiers gear tip of the week: Not only did Dave show up to gab, he brought a tip with him! Plusinno Wall mounted vertical fishing rod holder. Get it on Amazon HERE
Here’s your Ring Power CAT tip of the week: Safety First
File a float plan when you go out in the boat… tell someone/friend/family/significant other and tell them when you leave, where you are going, when you are expected to return.
Here’s your Kirbyco Builders Inc. cooking tip of the week: Have you ever wondered what the different twist tie or tag colors on your store-bought bread mean!? It signifies the day of the week the bread was baked on!

So it turns out that Capt. Kevin wound up going solo for most of this episode because Capt. Scott may have caught himself a bug…and wanted to make sure it wasn’t the bug. But he did call in, along with Capt. Leon and Capt. Chip, and they talked about everything going on.
All kinds of fishing talk on this episode, with Jeff sharing the fun he had while doing some OSR in southwest Florida. Kevin had some good stories, of course, and lots of calls to talk about everything happening in the water as well.
Here’s your L.V Hiers gear tip of the week: Jeff’s new favorite bar to go to…

Here’s your Ring Power CAT tip of the week: If you’re caught offshore in one of these bad thunder storms we’ve been having… here are a couple of tips. Make sure you take down your antenna and put all the rods on the floor. Don’t try and run through the storm. Just put your bow into the wind and ride it out! It usually lasts about 20 to 30 minutes. If you’re close to the beach get in as close as possible. That way you won’t have to deal with the waves. Most important thing: Stay calm!
