Dr. Susan Solomon’s research in the 1980’s confirmed that the presence of chlorofluorocarbons was largely responsible for the hole in the ozone and that led consumers, chemical companies and manufacturers to a path for fixing it. For her work, Solomon was awarded the National Medal of Science, the prestigious Blue Planet Prize, shared a Nobel Peace Prize in 2007 with Al Gore and was inducted into the Women’s Hall of Fame in 2009.
