Constipation in kids is SO common.

But…if you’re a parent, you know just how quickly things can go off track. Sometimes, all it takes is one painful bowel movement to create fear around pooping. From there, a frustrating cycle can begin.

In today’s conversation, we’re diving into constipation in kids. There are plenty of signs to look for, causes for why this is happening, and what real solutions can look like for parents and families.

While many people are told this is “normal” or something kids will grow out of, the truth is, there’s a LOT we can do to support healthy bowel habits early on!

If constipation is ongoing, painful, or impacting your child’s daily life, it may be time to bring in support. Pelvic floor therapy can help kids learn how to properly relax + coordinate their muscles, improve toileting posture, AND build confidence in their bodies again.

March is Endometriosis Awareness Month, and this is a topic that’s incredibly important to us as pelvic health therapists!

Endometriosis affects 1 in 10 women worldwide, yet the average time to diagnosis is still 7–10 years. That delay often leaves women feeling dismissed, confused, and questioning their own experiences when painful symptoms are brushed off as “normal.” 

In reality, endometriosis is far more complex than many people realize, and it deserves MUCH more awareness and support!

Endometriosis care works best when it’s multidisciplinary and whole-body focused. A supportive care team (including pelvic health therapists like ourselves), can help address underlying inflammation and chronic pain patterns.

In today’s episode, we’re diving into a tool we both use in our clinics that more nursing moms deserve to know about: therapeutic ultrasound for clogged ducts and mastitis. 

According to the Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine’s Clinical Protocol #36 (revised in 2022), therapeutic ultrasound may be an effective treatment for conditions within the mastitis spectrum. When used early (and really at the first sign of a clogged duct) this modality can make a HUGE difference!

During mastitis, ultrasound helps shift the environment in the tissue by decreasing inflammatory processes and supporting the body’s natural healing response. The earlier we intervene, the better the outcome tends to be.

We also talk through practical do’s and don’ts if you’re dealing with a clogged duct (some may surprise you). As always, we want you to know that there are supportive, evidence-informed tools available. You don’t have to just “power through” this alone!

We’re honored to welcome Sara Skiles to the podcast today!

Sara Skiles, CD, CPSC is the owner and Family Care Coordinator at Wichita Doula, and also a certified doula, pediatric sleep consultant, and childbirth educator. Sara is the mother of two teen sons and has extensive training, skills and personal experience in breastfeeding, birth options, comfort techniques, and all facets of infant care and sleep. She holds current certifications in doula work, pediatric sleep, advanced newborn care, childbirth education, and other related skills.

Sara is proud of her past work in overcoming perinatal anxiety/OCD and depression. One of her biggest passions is helping other new parents get the education, practical help, & the resources they need to have positive postpartum experiences.

In today’s conversation, Sara shares how her own supported birth experience with a doula and midwife changed the trajectory of her life. This ultimately led her into doula work, and eventually, postpartum and sleep support. As she honestly shares “there’s no epidural for the six weeks after birth!”

Pelvic health is one of those topics that everyone has heard about, but very few people truly understand.

In today’s episode, we’re diving into nervous system regulation, body resilience, and what we can learn from the Norwegian approach to daily life. 

Megan has been exploring the Scandinavian way of living (the Norwegian concept friluftsliv translates to “open air life”). Getting fresh air outside is prioritized (regardless of weather), and discomfort isn’t avoided, but embraced!

The simple practices they utilize support calmer, more regulated nervous systems, and stronger, more resilient bodies over time.

One of the biggest takeaways here? Growth and regulation don’t happen in comfort. Safe, manageable discomfort helps train resilience - both physically and emotionally. As humans, we often want to avoid discomfort entirely. 

But…regulation is built through safe challenges, simpler rhythms, clearer boundaries, and fewer extremes. Calm is not inherited - it’s practiced!

Whether it’s stepping outside for a few minutes, breathing intentionally, or choosing one small habit that supports your health, we want to invite you to rethink wellness, and create rhythms that truly support your pelvic floor and whole-body health!

As we step into 2026, we wanted to do something a little different with this episode. We’re talking a little less “new year, new you” energy, and more honest reflection.

As this episode airs on Christmas Eve, we wanted to pause and reflect on this season, and on the fact that this podcast has now been part of our lives for over TWO years (truly incredible)!

The holiday season can feel like a LOT.

Between overstimulation, full schedules, travel, chronic illness flares, and more, our bodies pick up far more than we realize. 

In today’s episode, we wanted to slow things down and talk about mindfulness. And no…not the “fluffy, clear your mind and float away” kind of mindfulness. More like the REAL, usable version that can help you come back home to yourself whenever you need to!

As clinicians who spend hours holding space for people in hard moments, having a daily “reset” ritual isn’t optional for us - it’s necessary.

Mindfulness is not about fixing - it’s about witnessing. Mindfulness becomes powerful when it becomes woven into your everyday life (not another task added to your neverending to-do list).

We hope you choose presence, curiosity, and give your nervous system a chance to BREATHE during one of the busiest seasons of the year!!
