September is the international month of Prostate Cancer Awareness and in this episode, we reacquaint you with Men’s Health Psychologist Patrick Lumbroso (RIP) who we first introduced in Episode 4, in our first ‘’pop up’’ edition.

Patrick, who founded ‘’ManFocus Clinic’’ in Sydney Australia was passionate about providing a quality rehabilitation and counselling service for men and their partners, especially those undergoing treatment for Prostate Cancer. Knowing the potential side effects of surgery – including erectile and urinary dysfunction - could greatly impact on a man’s self-esteem, Patrick was earnest in his goals to address the big gaps seen in male mental health.

Patrick’s primary focus was in education and support for men experiencing any form of sexual dysfunction, and although he did not complete his PHD due to his premature passing, his work is founding and explores new frontiers in men’s health.

In 2017, Dr Jo interviewed Patrick over 3 hours and episode 50 is the first of 3 episodes bringing Patrick’s experience and desire to assist others to be better prepared and more proactive in their recovery. Knowing his death from a brain tumour was imminent, Patrick did not hold back. Brace yourself for this raw account…..

Peyronies disease is an abnormal scarring process within the penis. Though easily curable when diagnosed early, most of the time, it is overlooked or not discussed even with GPs or with the special people in our lives that the after effects worsen.

COVID 19 has finally descended upon Australia at a time when we least expected it. After 18 months of living a relatively normal life – despite occasional lock downs and mask- wearing becoming common place- as of August 2021, life is now very different.  We are currently witnessing the full impact of the Delta strain pandemic sweeping our country, and like bushfire, we are succumbing to infection levels not seen before. But we are way behind in our preparation, being one of the least vaccinated countries in the world…. And we are starting to pay!! 

In this episode, we interview UK Physiotherapist Darren Brown who became an early COVID statistic himself. He describes the chaos, devastation and terrible losses as case numbers grew quickly, and of his own debilitating illness as a ‘’conscientious’’ front-line worker. For Darren, a 3-day illness led to an 18-month rollercoaster of illness – including more than 20 different symptoms, from being bedridden and requiring a walking stick as a young, healthy male to a regime of STOP! REST! PACE! towards a slow recovery...from a condition now known as ‘’LONG COVID’’ 

Not much is known about the long-term side effects of life beyond acute COVID infection- the 2-3 weeks of respiratory illness- but Darren shares all that he knows about LONG COVID, from his own experiences of 1000s of others he has since met. You will be shocked to learn the depth & breadth of the corona virus, it’s harrowing persistence and devastating side effects – potentially affecting every organ including the brain, heart, lungs, limbs and even the penis!!

Following on from last week’s podcast with Melissa about debunking the mysteries of Erectile Dysfunction, Dr. Jo will be debunking similar mysteries about continence issues that affect men!

This includes both peeing and pooping problems, the use of continence pads and how to wean off them, and how to incorporate penile clamps for improved management of urinary leakage. Garnered from working with 1000’s of men in the same predicament clinically, Dr. Jo has protocols that will help any man gradually reduce continence pad use – including size, number, and the need for pads PLUS, a penile clamp protocol that will immediately improve the quality of life for heavy urinary leakage.

Placed on the penis as a simple clamping device, the urinary flow stops, and the bladder re-trains, enabling a man to move, walk, exercise, and socialize without leakage!

For some this has been a life-saver and for most men, restores dignity and confidence during a time of distress.
