The Phillies Show

The Phillies are expecting big things from right-hander Jordan Romano in 2025. Romano is expecting big things from himself, too.

He signed a one-year, $8.5 million contract with the Phillies on the first day of last week’s Winter Meetings in Dallas. Romano joined Ruben, Jim and Todd this week to discuss his thoughts and expectations on playing in Philly, growing up a Blue Jays fan and then playing for his hometown team, collecting baseball cards, playing Double-A hockey and much more!

The Phillies signed right-hander Jordan Romano to a one-year, $8.5 million contract on Monday at the Winter Meetings in Dallas. But they still need to find an outfielder and more to upgrade a team that wants to win the World Series.

We’re back from the Winter Meetings in Dallas, and we spent Friday talking about Dave Dombrowski’s comments on the final day of the meetings on Wednesday, when he said it wasn’t the right time to trade a package of top prospects for Garrett Crochet, who was traded to the Red Sox. We also discuss Bryce Harper’s chances at a contract extension, following Scott Boras’ comments on Wednesday, and the Phillies’ chances to trade Alec Bohm.

The Phillies never took a run at Juan Soto, but on Monday they finally made a move. They signed former All-Star closer Jordan Romano to a one-year, $8.5 million contract. The fellas talk about the signing and what it means for the bullpen.

But is this it for the bullpen?

What about the outfield and rotation?

Big news from the Winter Meetings in Dallas, which directly and indirectly affect the Phillies.

First, the late, great Dick Allen made the Hall of Fame. Long overdue and well deserved.

Second, Juan Soto signed a massive 15-year, $765 million contract with the Mets.

Ruben, Jim and Todd are all in Dallas this week, so they’ll be breaking down everything Phillies, and everything impacting the Phillies.  The discuss Allen's place in Cooperstown and discuss Soto's signing and how it affects the Phillies moving forward.

We think the Phillies are going to make a trade or two before spring training. But while we wait for them to strike, we asked you for your Phillies trade ideas before next week's Winter Meetings in Dallas.

We got a bunch!

You made offers for Garrett Crochet, Kyle Tucker, Devin Williams, Ryan Helsley, Sandy Alcántara and more! We discussed them, then explained why the Phillies would or would not make those trades. Ruben then picked his favorite trade proposal, and that person won a Phillies Show t-shirt!

Barring a miracle, Juan Soto isn’t signing with the Phillies.

He has received multiple $600 million offers, according to Fair Territory’s Ken Rosenthal. Soto could make a decision before the end of next week’s Winter Meetings in Dallas. We said on this show last week that the Phillies had not met with Soto. We even wondered if an offer would be made. It turns out, the Phillies have not made an offer.

None of this should come as a surprise. The Phillies were never considered serious suitors for Soto, despite speculation. Still, we talk about Soto’s situation and what comes next for the Phillies.

It’s Thanksgiving Week, which means the holidays are here.

Is there any chance that Juan Soto signs with the Phillies? They have not met yet with Soto, but there are expectations they will. There is a report that the Phils have not communicated with Scott Boras, who is Soto’s agent. We hear otherwise. Regardless, the Phillies’ chances at signing Soto remains a longshot.

Ruben, Jim and Todd get into the holiday spirit by talking about what they’re thankful for in the game of baseball.

Todd will be signing copies of “Doc: The Life of Roy Halladay” on Saturday, November 20 from noon to 2 p.m. at the New Era Phillies Team Store at Citizens Bank Park. Stop by!

If you can’t make it, Todd also signs personalized copies of “Doc: The Life of Roy Halladay at bytoddzolecki.com.

Luke Murton is the Phillies’ new player development director, following Preston Mattingly’s recent promotion to GM.

Murton spent the past two years as the Minor League’s hitting development director, but he also split his team scouting amateur players that he thought would be good to bring into the system. One of those players was top prospect Aidan Miller. Murton talks about his journey from Georgia Teach to Yankees minor leaguer to scout with the Giants and Padres to Phils’ farm director.

He talks about his hitting and pitching philosophies, top prospects like Miller and Justin Crawford and more.

The holidays are here! Need a gift for the Phillies fan in your life? Todd is signing personalized copies of “Doc: The Life of Roy Halladay at bytoddzolecki.com.

Phillies ace Zack Wheeler finished second for NL Cy Young for the second time in the four years.

This year, he finished behind Atlanta’s Chris Sale.

We discuss the vote, but also dig into an interesting story by MLB.com’s Mike Petriello, who suggests Wheeler is on a Hall of Fame track anyway. He needs a few more dominant years to put him into serious contention, but there is a strong argument to be made.

We also discuss Friday night’s non-tender deadline. Is Austin Hays non-tendered?

There’s some Juan Soto and Roki Sasaki talk and 40-man roster stuff, too!
