In the beginning of 2021 I weighed around 334 pounds. Today I weigh 235 pounds with my lowest weight in December being 231. Many people have asked me recently how I did it and the answer is quite basic: Do More. Eat Less. It really is that simple, but it is NOT easy. This episode covers my thoughts and many of the methods I used to lose the weight and change my life.
I want to say a very large thank you to so many people that have helped me get here and that will help me continue getting better. Most of all, my wife DeEllen. I could not have gotten anywhere without my marriage. I promise I won't stop here.. and I WILL NOT go back...
This episode takes some of the most intense and aggressive language found in Jocko Willink's Discipline Equals Freedom Field Manual and applies it to the most intense and important human relationship you will ever have. Your marriage.
My new friend Luke and I sit down to talk about his Purpose and we dive deep into his Catholic faith. Coming from a non-denominational childhood and currently being a member of a Baptist church, I had plenty of questions for Lucas and did not hold back an ounce of curiosity for what Catholics believe and practice. We also dive into his employment as a Marketing & Branding Strategist for Modlite Systems, discussing the advantages of purchasing Modlite in a market full of stiff competition.
"Pick your battles"... I have heard this many times from men who might have learned the madness but likely not the method. Which battles do you pick? How do you pick them? How hard do you fight once you've picked? Typically the phrase is given in an open-ended manner and without these answers. This week I decided to return to Leadership Strategy and Tactics by Jocko Willink for some hard hitting advice all about the tool of not caring and when to use it.
Scrolling through my feed this week I came across a post by long time friend of the show Clint Walker @the_Clint_Walker asking for advice from men over 30 to men in their 20's. I spent a long time scrolling through the comments and in this episode I decided to go over my favorite and, of course, my least favorite pieces of advice!
When the shooting starts and the fight gets heated, don't overreact... Take a step back and get to the root of the problem.
Biggest fan, worst critic, helpful, harmful... That voice in our heads can take quite a few forms and I find myself in a constant battle to keep it constructive. Must it always be kind, constantly assuring you that you are enough no matter the circumstances? Softer types and more sensitive folks will agree. Must it be harsh and cruel, callusing yourself and preparing you for a world full of criticism and competitors? Plenty of billionaires, athletes, and high performers would say yes. I don't have an exact answer, though I know it lies somewhere in the middle of the two, or maybe that there is a time for both. In this episode I simply share with you my process and some of the reasons I talk to myself the way that I do.
With 2024 already in progress and all the talk about goals, I decided to make a type resolution you don't hear very often, a resolution for my marriage. In this episode I share that resolution with you and call you all to do the same.
As I sit and think about 2023 and all the wonderful events and opportunities that happened, I can't help but be pumped and inspired to make 2024 even better! In this short episode I am simply calling on you to do the same. What went well in 2023? Count those blessings! What can be improved? Set your goals in 2024 and get after it!
After watching the movie "Four Christmases" with my Wife DeEllen, I began to think about all of the people that I know, and even myself at one time, who were defying their nature and resisting the traditional family lifestyle.
