The Spooky Linings Playlist

In a short bonus episode to hold you over until our newest episode drops next Monday, we’re responding to a request we received to react to the trailers for the new A24 horror flick entitled Undertone, which debuts this Friday the 13th. Described as a psychological and supernatural horror film about a host of a popular paranormal podcast who becomes haunted by terrifying recordings mysteriously sent her way, in this Silver Linings Special you can hear us react to both trailers for the film, as well as discuss “8D” audio, those apps that let you “communicate with ghosts” all over the App Store, and, of course, everyone’s favorite Italian dish: Labububabadookinamuumuu. Watch along with us on YouTube or simply listen to the trailer with us as we react to it.

And if you’re curious about the 8D audio track we play, the real song is entitled “Hood Baby” by KBFR. You can find the music video for the stereo version here.

And the “8D audio” version here.

Undertone stars Nina Kiri, Adam DiMarco, Michèle Duquet, Keana Bastidas, Jeff Yung, and Ryan Turner. Directed by Ian Tuason.

There’s a new Scream flick in theaters right now, and while that film is what most of the fans are talking about, we’re throwing it back to 2011 to dissect the very mid Scream 4. Released over a decade after the original three films, this one suffers from an identity crisis and fails to justify its existence in the overstuffed remake/reboot crowd of the time. Does this movie have anything to say about the then-current state of horror? We’ll let you know as we discuss the film, plus our twist on a Punk’d revival, David Arquette’s strange puppet bar, and Dustin’s inability to physically see any woman who isn’t his wife (“lady blindness”). All of that and a lot more with returning guest Ashley Simmons.

Scream 4 stars Kristen Bell, Rory Culkin, Anthony Anderson, Alison Brie, Hayden Panettiere, Emma Roberts, Neve Campbell, Anna Paquin, David Arquette, and Courteney Cox. Directed by Wes Craven.

Look, we get it: not everyone is a fan of Tim Robinson’s unique style of comedy. And while Friendship may not be the ultimate litmus test on his comedic sensibilities, it has its moments of real drama and relatable circumstances for the everyman that poke through his specific line delivery and chaotic energy. If you weren’t into I Think You Should Leave or The Chair Company, maybe give this one a shot. Tune in to our episode (which is so cherry) as we discuss the film, plus extreme food challenges, exploring abandoned places, and kissing your parents on the mouth.

Friendship stars Tim Robinson, Paul Rudd, Kate Mara, Jack Dylan Grazer, Rick Worthy, and Whitmer Thomas. Directed by Andrew DeYoung.

Guillermo del Toro had been waiting to make his version of Frankenstein for a long time, and in 2025 we finally got to see what he can do with the classic story. It turned out to be a 9-Oscar nominations worthy endeavor. Some interesting spins on the beloved novel await those curious enough to see what Jacob Elordi can do as The Monster, so put on your finest ascot and pour a tall glass of white (milk) as we dissect this one. Plus, discussions on whether or not Christoph Waltz is a good actor, Victor’s goop diet, and just how many babies Nathan could beat in a fight to death.

Frankenstein (2025) stars Oscar Isaac, Jacob Elordi, Mia Goth, Christoph Waltz, Felix Kammerer, and David Bradley. Directed by Guillermo del Toro.

It had been 18 years since the last entry in the 28 (or 28 x Later…) franchise, but Danny Boyle and Alex Garland’s return could not have been more welcomed. While 28 Years Later was incredibly divisive (especially due to that ending), no one could argue that this entry into this infected (read: zombie) property wasn’t unique and refreshing. We love this one and hope you do too. So hold onto your head (and spine) as we tear into this one as well as discuss decrepit punk houses, the nicest thing Mallie’s ever said, Larry the Cable Guy’s only good joke, and, of course, those Alpha dongs.

28 Years Later stars Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jack O’Connell, Alfie Williams, Ralph Fiennes, and Erin Kellyman. Directed by Danny Boyle.

Remember 2007’s Next? No? Don’t worry – you’re not alone. This Nic Cage vehicle is one of his more forgotten outputs from the past 20 years and for good reason. A plot that truly doesn’t make any sense is only outweighed by apathetic performances and even lazier direction. Couple all of that with what has to be one of the most insulting endings to a movie ever and you’ve got a recipe for disaster. Luckily for us, our episode is far better. Tune in to hear us breakdown the movie (as best we can), plus conversations about Cage’s absurd hair, magic coin blood, and, of course, soiling yourself to get out of a situation.

Next stars Nicolas Cage, Julianne Moore, Jessica Biel, Thomas Kretschmann, Tory Kittles, and Peter Falk. Directed by Lee Tamahori.

All of that and more with guest Drew Miles.

Happy holidays to all who celebrate, and we’ll see you in the new year!

It’s been 20 years since the “gay cowboy movie” split Western culture in two, but Brokeback Mountain is so much more than its prejudicial and controversial reputation. A film that arguably should have won Best Picture more than any other movie in its respective year, it unabashedly wears its heart on its sleeve and dares you to look away. Saddle up and come along with us as we celebrate this film’s cultural impact as well as its lasting legacy. Plus, conversations about the weird internet mob mentality against Anne Hathaway, “hard soups”, proms with only 3 students, Nathan chugging beans (literally), and so much more. And, as always: f--- Crash.

You can read Moss’s essay on the film here.

Brokeback Mountain stars Anne Hathaway, Michelle Williams, Jake Gyllenhaal, Randy Quaid, Heath Ledger. Directed by Ang Lee.

Just in time for the holidays, the boys are back to kick off Season 9! We’re fired up to talk about Aronofsky’s latest flick Caught Stealing – a big departure from his usual style of storytelling. It doesn’t quite work as well as we had hoped, but there’s still a lot of good stuff in this black comedy crime thriller. So put on your Giants cap and buckle up as we discuss everything this one has to offer, plus Giuliani’s abysmal late-‘90s New York nightlife, the Russian John Lennon story, cat group text threads, and so much more. Plus, a very, very special message from a big TSLP legend. You won’t want to miss it!

You can watch the hilarious Heavy Rain fail video we discuss in the episode here.

Caught Stealing stars Austin Butler, Zoe Kravitz, Regina King, Matt Smith, Liev Schreiber, and Vincent D’Onofrio. Directed by Darren Aronofsky.

While the movie has been reevaluated and praised as a cult classic now, there are many other facets that are worth discussing, such as the critical reassessment, the LGBTQIA+ community’s annexation of the film, and more.
