Have you ever felt like God doesn't know who you are, or why you're here? In this LDS (Latter-day Saint) episode, Tia Smith confronts the lie that you don't matter to God with the doctrine that you were foreordained — literally "born for glory" — and reserved for these latter days to help gather Israel. Drawing on Alma 13, President Russell M. Nelson's "Hope of Israel" (June 2018), Sheri Dew's beloved BYU devotional "You Were Born to Lead, You Were Born for Glory" (December 2003), and a striking passage from author John Pontius on who we really were before we were born, she shows why the veil can grow thin "for us if we are faithful" (President Brigham Young) and why Satan works so hard to make you forget your divine worth. Tia also shares a very recent thinning of the veil experience — ancestors' names given to her early one morning while she was sick — that reminded her God's eyes are always upon her. A hopeful, doctrine-rich reminder of who you are, who God knows you to be, and the work He has reserved for you in the gathering of Israel.
Q: Does God really know who I am and why I'm here?
A: Yes. This episode teaches the doctrine of foreordination — that you were "called and prepared from the foundation of the world, according to the foreknowledge of God" because of your faith (Alma 13:3), and reserved for the latter days. President Russell M. Nelson taught that today's covenant youth were sent to earth "at this precise time, the most crucial time in the history of the world, to help gather Israel" ("Hope of Israel," June 2018).
Q: What does "you were born for glory" mean in Latter-day Saint belief?
A: The phrase comes from Sheri Dew's BYU devotional "You Were Born to Lead, You Were Born for Glory" (December 2003), echoing Isaiah. It means God, with His perfect foreknowledge, recommended you specifically for this decisive period of the world's history — not Moses or Nephi, but you — to run the last leg of the relay and help build His kingdom.
Q: Why do I sometimes feel worthless or forgotten by God?
A: Tia teaches that this is one of Satan's central lies — that you don't matter — meant to make you forget your divine identity and stop the work you covenanted to do. The scriptural answer is that we are literally children of God with divine potential ("ye are gods," John 10:34; Psalm 82:6), reserved and needed for the gathering of Israel.
Q: How does the veil become thin for ordinary members, not just prophets?
A: President Brigham Young taught that "the veil begins to be thinner and will be withdrawn for us if we are faithful" as we carry out the work of the priesthood (Journal of Discourses 8:114). Tia illustrates this with a recent experience: while sick, she received ancestors' names in the early morning hours and found them on FamilySearch needing temple work — evidence, she testifies, that God's eyes are always upon those engaged in His work.
