  • Ep 273: Divorce and Decluttering with The ExExperts
    Hi Friends,
Today we are talking about Decluttering and Divorce.  This is a topic that I’ve wanted to address for some time, and I have the perfect guests for y’all!  T.H Irwin & Jessica Klingbaum are best friends, podcasters and founders of the exExperts, a free online community for women going through divorce.
We kick off the show by having them each share their personal experiences. What I found so interesting is how they lived very different lives, with parallel stories. Although both TH and Jessica navigated their divorces separately, together they found comfort in helping each other along the way.
Out of their personal stories and professional experiences, The ExExperts was created. Their website is the go-to resource on everything you need to know about divorce–from parenting, to finance, you can find support where you need it. What I love most is their no-nonsense, honest approach to walking alongside their community because they have “been there, done that.”
As someone who has never been through a divorce, I was curious to know how each one approached the decluttering process which can be overwhelming in itself, let alone separating households.
During our conversation I asked them questions like:
Was there more or less emotional clutter when you were separating your homes?
What were the items that were easy to part with?
What items did you choose to hold onto from your married life?
How did you navigate the back and forth logistics of clothing, activities, and homework?

I feel like we only scratched the surface, I could have spoken with them for hours!  If you’d like us to continue the conversation make sure to leave us a comment or tag us on social media!
If you or someone you know is going through a divorce, do them a favor and encourage them to listen to this episode or watch on our YouTube channel.  Don’t forget to check out the links below for everything we discussed on the show.

  • Ep 272: Partner Spotlight with Lynn O'Meara
    Hi Friends!
Today I am joined by SBO Partner, Lynn O'Meara.  Lynn is the founder of LM Organizing in Wilmette, Illinois. I invited her on the show to talk about what prompted her to start her business (during the pandemic!), and why she has a heart for working with clients who struggle with emotional clutter.
During our conversation we talked about:
Her childhood experiences with family members who struggled with clutter
Why it’s hard to ask for help
    Her files and piles method
How clutter affects the entire family, not just the person who is disorganized

Lynn also shares a few of her tried and true tips for people who aren’t quite ready to let things go. I love chatting with other professional organizers who bring their own unique experiences and perspectives to every client.

  • Ep 271: Prep, Cook, Freeze with Caroline Fausel
Joining me today is Caroline Fausel, founder of  the popular blog Olive You Whole and author of Prep, Cook, Freeze: A Paleo Meal Planning Cookbook.
Caroline’s approach is simple, clean eating that you can batch, freeze and repeat.  Whether you are a busy executive or mom of littles & middles,  two of the biggest organizing struggles I hear from our community are:
“What should I make for dinner?” and “How can I streamline the meal prep process?”
During our conversation, Caroline walks us through her step-by-step process.  From meal planning, to prep, to batch cooking and how to create freezer meals that work.
Added bonus: Caroline shares her favorite storage products and what items she keeps in her “toolbox” to keep her kitchen and freezer organized.
I learned so many new tips and tricks from her-you’re definitely going to want to listen!

  • Ep 270: Do I need a Clutter Coach?
Today we’re talking about the differences between hiring a professional organizer to help you organize, contain, and corral your belongings versus hiring a clutter coach; someone to walk alongside you unpacking (sometimes literally) why you struggle with getting rid of things.

  • ep 269: Creating a Legacy List with Matt Paxton
    Hi Friends!
Joining me today is one of the top cleaning, downsizing, decluttering, and hoarding experts in the country, Matt Paxton. Some of you may know him as the host of the Emmy-nominated PBS show Legacy List with Matt Paxton, or from the 12 years he spent helping people on A&E’s Hoarders. I invited Matt to come on TOL to talk about his new book, Keep the Memories, Lose the Stuff  which comes out next week.
We talk candidly about his life, career, and moving from Virginia to Atlanta where he currently lives  with his wife and their SEVEN kids.
During our conversation we talked about:
How to develop a Legacy List and why it’s important
The value of telling (and listening) to personal stories while decluttering
How Peter Walsh turning down a job ended him on  Hoarders

This is an honest conversation, filled with hope, grace and a wealth of compassion.  I talk to a lot of professionals in this industry, and each time, I learn something new.
I encourage you to listen (or watch) this episode and then pay it forward by sharing it with your people because you never know who needs to hear some words of encouragement.

  • ep 266: 4 Steps to Goal Setting in 2022
    Hi Friends,
Today’s episode is short, but packs a punch! We’re talking about, you guessed it…GOALS.
I recorded this episode while doing my own planning.
In previous years, I would separate each goal into different categories: personal, professional, relational, and spiritual. Although there may be category cross-over, it’s helpful for me to be able to see where I am focusing in each aspect of my life.
Sounds like a great and organized plan, right?
    Well, not entirely.
I would agree that it’s a great place to start, but the problem with my previous goal planning is that it lacks one essential piece, STRATEGY.
Whether your goal is to make more money, lose 10 pounds, read more books, yell at your kids less, or live a more organized life, you need a plan on how to get there.
So this year I revamped my goal planning worksheet to include 4 key parts:
WHAT your goal is (what are you striving to achieve?)
WHY it’s important to you (what is the reason behind your goal? Articulating your why can help you stay on track when you feel unmotivated.)
HOW you plan to get there (what steps are you going to take each day to help you get closer to reaching your goal)
WHEN you expect to reach your goal (is this something you plan to accomplish next week, next month or next year)

Once I started including these details, I felt a sense of clarity and direction that had previously been lacking. To help you with your goal planning, I am including a link for you. Feel free to download as many as you like (I use one sheet per goal).
Grab your free GOAL TRACKER here!
