December 20, 2019 is when the world became aware of Lori Vallow after police in Rexberg, Idaho sent out a news release reporting two missing siblings: 7 year old JJ Vallow and 17 year old Tylee Ryan. The story quickly made national news when it was revealed that their mother, Lori, had fled to Hawaii, all the while insisting the kids were safe and happy, and refusing to answer any questions about their whereabouts. It left us all wondering: was it true and she was hiding them somewhere for some unknown reason? Had she had something to do with their disappearance? Did this have anything to do with her new husband, Chad Daybell? The answers to these questions would turn out to be far more baffling than anyone realized.

Part 1: This is one of the most complex and bizarre stories we’ve covered: the story of Natalia Grace, a little girl adopted from Ukraine whose age and behavior ignited a global firestorm of controversy. When Michael and Kristine first adopted 6 year old Natalia, everything was great. Natalia was welcomed into the family, she seemed to fit right in. But after a few months, issues started to arise that caused the Barnett’s to question who Natalia really was. Was she an innocent child looking to be loved by her adopted family, or was everything about her a lie?

Part 2: Michael and Kristine Barnett are convinced that their adopted daughter, Natalia, is not a 6 year old little girl from Ukraine, but a psychotic adult imposter using her dwarfism to masquerade as a child. They manage to convince a judge that this is true, and after that life will get much, much more difficult for Natalia.

When Jill Walker went to wake up her 16 year old daughter Emma for school, she found her lying in her bed, unresponsive. She tried to shake her awake, and realized Emma had no pulse. Immediately, Jill called 911, and when investigators first arrived they assumed this was a suicide. They looked around Emma's room, and nothing seemed out of the ordinary. That is until they noticed a small hole in the wall, the wall that Emma’s bed was pushed up against, lined up right where her pillow was. And that hole was about the size of a bullet. That was when they realized that Emma had been shot in her sleep through the walls of her house.

It was August 5, 2009, a day like any other for Dalia Dippolito. She got up early to go to the gym and let her husband, Mike, know that she'd pick him up a Starbucks on her way home. While she was at the gym working on her fitness, she got a call from Sgt. Ranzie, a detective with the Boynton Beach Police Department, who told her there was a situation at her home and she needed to get there right away. When Dalia arrived, she saw her house surrounded by police cars and yellow crime scene tape. Sgt. Ranzie told her that her husband had been murdered inside their condo, and Dalia fell into his arms, sobbing. However, everything about this entire scene was completely fake.

Martin and Michele MacNeill's adult daughters, Rachel and Alexis, are convinced their father murdered their mother. They were able to get custody of their adopted younger siblings, except 16 year old Giselle, who was inexplicably shipped off to Ukraine, where she’d been adopted from.

This was an incredibly stressful time for all of them. Rachel and Alexis were terrified of their dad. He now knew they believed he’d killed their mother, and they were so afraid he’d do the same to them that they went into hiding. But Alexis was not in hiding giving up. She was in hiding plotting.

It was April 11, 2007 when 50 year old Michele MacNeill was found unconscious in her bathtub by her husband, Martin MacNeill. Martin attempted CPR while he waited for the ambulance to arrive, but she could not be saved. Tragically, less than an hour after she arrived at the hospital, Michele was pronounced dead. Days later, the Utah State medical examiner declared that Michele’s death was due to natural causes from a heart arrhythmia. It seemed like it had just been a terrible tragedy, possibly brought on by the pain medication Michele was taking due to a recent facelift surgery. But it was not at all what it seemed, and it would take the persistent efforts of investigators, lawyers, and even the MacNeill's grown children to uncover the truth of what really happened to Michele.

Helen Hagnes Mintiks had it all - a wonderful husband, a fabulous life in New York City, and her dream job as a professional violinist performing at the world famous Metropolitan Opera House. On July 23, 1980, Helen was playing in the orchestra for the visiting Berlin Ballet, but after a break in the performance, Helen never returned to finish the show. Her prized possession - her violin - sat in her empty seat, while others in the orchestra wondered where she could be. When she failed to turn up by the end of the performance, no one could understand how a someone could just vanish in the middle of a performance at the Met.
