One fact about the Bible that blew my mind is that the Bible was not written to us, but it was written for us, an interesting phrase right? When we fail to understand that the Bible was not written to 21st-century people, we can fail to properly read and apply God's word. When this happens we can come to many conclusions that are misguided or completely unintending by scripture. In this episode, we explore the Bible in its own context.

Pride is always bad!! Right?...
Scripture seems fairly clear that pride is the first step to disgrace. "The proud will be made low, and the lowly in spirit will be brought up", seems cut and dry to me. However, there seems to be a use of pride that is not only permissible but encouraged. Paul tells the Roman church that he has pride in his work, and the question that leads me to ask is this... Is there Good Pride?

What happens when the work we put forth gets rejected? How are we to respond, and what steps should be taken next? You may be thinking of rejection in terms of relationships or opportunities, but this would be missing the deeper meaning of rejection. Paul is concerned with the quality of the Gentile's faith and the "offering" they are giving to God. Often it's assumed that God will always accept what we give him no matter what, but is that always the case?

In this day and age, there are an infinite number of definitions that can be given for "faith" or more precisely "movements of faith". Do modern-day examples of faith match up with the Bible's way of describing faith? Paul in his letter to the Romans speaks about their faith that was proclaimed throughout the land, if we are seeking a deeper standard of what faith looks like in action, maybe we should look at those who were among the first to call themselves followers of Christ.

Was the arrival of Jesus something that would've caught your average Torah reading Jew off guard, or did the Hebrew Bible look forward to the day when the "Anointed One" would free God's people and rule the nations? We often read Jesus back into the Old Testament, but oddly enough the Old Testament looks forward to the coming of Jesus. Paul makes the case that Jesus came to prove God's word true, if that is the case what parts of God's word directly involve Jesus?

Modern Churches often paint our relationship with God as one where God will constantly give us every desire we have. This portrait of God is like a cosmic vending machine, where God's sole purpose is to always grant our wishes. However, the Bible paints a very different story. Would it surprise you to know that for many Christians their love for God will bring them closer to pain, suffering, and even death?

How are we to handle matters of opinion and matters of disagreement? Should we give everyone a piece of our mind, or should we simply stay quiet? Here's another thought, the instruction given in the Bible is it for our own individual gain, or is it for the betterment of the collective? These are questions that on the surface may seem asinine, but when you dig deeper you find that they completely change how we interact within the body of Christ.

Settling differences can often lead to pain, suffering, and loss. Many people resort to aggression, attacks, and violence to solve these conflicts. What if the key to unity was submission? How different would your daily interactions look if you and others submitted to each other's needs and desires? In this episode, we look at the consequences of Mutually Assured Submission.

We all know the classic story of the birth of Jesus. This is a story told every Christmas, so much so that it has its own name... The Nativity Scene. Would it shock you to learn that many aspects of the Nativity Scene are incorrect? We fail to realize that many traditions, songs, and stories have shaped our view of the birth of Jesus in a negative way. When we look at the cultural context that Jesus was born into we see a story that is filled with love, community, and no stables.
