In our study in this lesson, we are

looking at Mark 1:4-8. In these verses John the Baptist is

presented first.

He had a message aimed at the heart’s

condition. Many people through out the

region went out to hear this messenger

and began confessing their sins.

Mark provides us a description of this

messenger’s clothing style and his kosher diet.

This man pointed men and women to the

Messiah. But in a spirit of humility, he also

made a contrast between the savior and

himself with respect to their different

ministries. John baptized with water but

Jesus would baptize in the Holy Spirit

within a few years. This is seen

later in time in Acts chapter 2, as Peter verifies in verses 32-33.

Let’s turn to the Gospel of Mark,

chapter 1 verse 4 with Dr. Mitchell

on the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast.

Let’s read and study these first 6

verses of the Gospel of Mark

which start off with two O.T.

quotes. The first from Malachi chapter 3 verse 1 and then from Isaiah 40 verse 3.

God preserves His Word thru

the ages for Mark to write them and for you and me to read them.

The Lord will have a His messenger

and His message!

Dr. Mitchell emphasizes that God is

always on time. Our savior came to the

earth at the right time.

Jesus will also come to receive His people to Himself at the right time.

1 Timothy 6:14-15 says the Lord Jesus Christ will appear in His own time to show who is the blessed and

only potentate, King of Kings and Lord

of Lords.

This Gospel of Mark study begins

with chapter 1 verses 1-6.

The Key verse in Mark is found in 10:45

where Jesus tells us that ‘The Son of Man

came not to be ministered unto but

to minister and to give His life a ransom for many.’

Dr. Mitchell will read through the first

8 verses of chapter 1. These verses introduce the forerunner of the Lord,

John the baptist. These verses start off

with two O.T. quotes. The first from Malachi chapter 3 verse 1 and the next

from Isaiah 40 verse 3. These state that

the Lord will have a messenger who would

go before Him to announce His coming to

the people of Israel.

So, let’s turn to Mark chapter 1 verse 1

with our teacher, Dr. Mitchell.

In this introduction, the Gospel of Mark is contrasted to the other three gospels with respect to the genealogy

of Jesus, the Son of God.

Dr. Mitchell gives us a short digest of

Matthew, Luke and John and later on in

this series, he will deal specifically the entire book of Mark.

the person of our Lord Jesus Christ

the Servant of the Lord, who was diligent in action and the sinner’s

Savior.

The introduction to the Gospel of Mark

resumes with Dr. Mitchell’s discussing

the four gospels marking out several

unique features of each gospel.

Our Savior is presented in each gospel

from the perspective of the inspired

author of that gospel. Matthew writes to

the Jewish believers presenting Jesus as

King and Messiah. Mark shows Jesus as a

Man - diligent in serving the Lord. Luke

reveals our Lord as a Man among men,

a sinless Man and Savior.

John reveals Jesus Christ as

God in the flesh, the only begotten

Son of the Father.

The four Gospels are a unique genre in

Bible literature. They present Jesus,

His preeminent Person - rather than His complete history or biography.

Let’s continue our study in this introduction to the Gospel of Mark

with our teacher, Dr. John G. Mitchell.

Word Bible Broadcast as Dr. Mitchell

begins a study in the Gospel of Mark.

The Gospel of Mark is the 2nd book

of the New Testament.

In this lesson Dr. Mitchell will be giving us an introduction from

four O.T. scriptures which reveal the

person of Christ in each one of the

N.T. Gospels.

Then we find there are other O.T.

scriptures which speak of the work of

Christ on the cross, such as Isaiah 53

and Ps.22 and His resurrection in Ps.16.

Dr. Mitchell gives us the perspective

of how the Lord Jesus fulfilled other

Old Testament sacrifices which God used

to picture the then coming Messiah.

Let’s open our Bible to the Gospel of

Mark as Dr. Mitchell shares with us

this beginning overview of the Gospels.

In Matthew 25:31, our Lord is shown

as judging the nations of the earth

separating the sheep from the goats.

Dr. Mitchell shows what the basis is for

this judgment.

Note that the Lord judges from His glorious throne on earth after His

return to earth following the great

tribulation.

Dr. Mitchell, in Joel 3, declares the

geographical location where God will

judge the nations.

He states that the attitude of any

nation towards Israel will determine

how they are judged by the Lord. Anti

semitism will not tolerated by Christ.

At that time, He is the King of Israel and the King of the nations.

Dr. Mitchell asks “Have you opened your

heart to the revelation of God in

Christ”? I may add this is only found in the Bible!

Let’s join Dr. Mitchell on the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast, Matthew 25:31.

Dr. Mitchell will state and examine the 3 main things which will characterize the earth before the coming of Lord to

the earth.

These are, indifference, immorality, and

ignorance. Do we not see these today?

Ignorance of people with respect to the

character of God and His provision for

salvation abounds to this day.

In Matthew 24:29-30 it is recorded that

immediately after the tribulation of those days, the Son of Man will be

coming in the clouds of heaven with

power and great glory.

If you now trust Jesus and He comes for

His church today, you will not be in the 7 years of the great tribulation before

Christ returns again.

When the Lord does come again, will you

still be here? or with the Lord Jesus Christ in heaven?

Turn to Matthew 24:29 with Dr. Mitchell.

This is the Unchanging Word Bible

The times of the Gentiles will be the

focus of this study. These times are found in

Luke 21:24 where Luke writes that Jerusalem shall be trodden down by the gentiles till the times of the gentiles

is fulfilled. This is a definite

revealed time period.

Dr. Mitchell takes us back to the start

when Babylon, ruled by Nebuchadnezzar the king of that gentile nation, began to rule over the nation of Israel.

This is found in the Book of Daniel.

But when the Lord Jesus comes in power

and great Glory, returning to the earth as King of Kings and Lord of Lords, He judges the nations of the earth, and then the times of the gentiles

will come to an end. Let’s turn to Luke 21:24 where Dr. Mitchell describes these times of

Here in the 5th lesson on the nation of

Israel as revealed in Bible prophecy,

Dr. Mitchell looks at the coming of the

Lord in relationship to Israel.

The Day of Lord is the biblical phrase

used to indicate the time when Israel

and the nations are judged by the Lord

as revealed in Revelation 6-19.

But in regard to the Lord’s dealing with

Israel, they will be cleansed from the

unbelieving Jews - then those who trust in

Christ, their Messiah, will be saved to

enter the Millennium when Christ returns

to the earth to save them.

But today, God’s grace is available to each and everyone who now trusts in

Christ. Jesus died for each one of us

and our sins, and God raised Him from

the dead as proof of our justification!

Can you believe this? Yes!
