August 16, 2021 Acts 18:12-19:7 - Prog 56
Paul spent 1 yr and 6 months in
Corinth because the Lord had told
Him to go on teaching and not to
be silent for Jesus had many people
in that city.
There are many people in your city
that need to hear and be taught of
Jesus Christ.
Paul then goes on another journey,
revisiting the disciples in the
Galatian and Phrygian regions,
strengthening them.
Now we are introduced to Apollos,
a Jew from the city of Alexandria
in Northern Egypt.
He was taken under the care of Aquilla
and Priscilla who taught him the
way of God more accurately. It is
important to know the entire word
of God exactly as God meant it.
Then we find Paul in Ephesus. He
finds 12 men who were believers in
the message they had heard from
John the Baptist but had not heard
his entire message. For John had
said people were to believe in
Jesus who was coming after him.
These 12 were then baptized in the
name of Jesus Christ and then
received the Holy Spirit of God.

August 13, 2021 Acts 18:1-11 - Prog 55
After Paul left Athens, he travels
50 miles to Corinth.
Here, Paul finds two believers who
had been exiled from Rome. These
two, Aquila and Priscila, also were
tentmakers, so Paul stayed with
them working along side of them.
But on the sabbath days, Paul would
reason from the Scriptures about
the Messiah, Jesus. But once again
there was opposition from the
unbelievers.
So Paul went to the Gentiles among
the Corinthians, and many, hearing
him, believed. Romans 10:17 says,
“Faith comes by hearing and hearing
comes by the word of Christ.”
Luke writes, that Paul spent a year
and six months there teaching the
the Word of God among them.
In first Corinthians 2:2, Paul
writes to them the word of the
cross “..he determined to know
nothing among them but Jesus Christ
and Him crucified.”

August 12, 2021 Acts 17:23-34 - Prog 54
Paul, having been brought to the
Areopagus, or Mars hill,
proclaims THE God who made the
heavens and the earth. Notice, no
explanation, just proclamation.
Hebrews 11:6 says, “..he that comes
to God must believe that He is...”
THIS GOD is the one who made from
one man every nation to dwell on
the face of the earth.
From the first man Adam, God made
every race under heaven and placed
them on His earth where they would
be able to find God, if they would
but seek Him. Today, He still gives
to all life and breath and all
things.
Paul, then, contrasts the images
constructed by the technology and
imagination of men with THE
DIVINE BEING, e.g. the true
and living God.
This One will bring all men to
account. As proof of this, God
raised Jesus, their judge, from the
dead.
Since the judge is alive, the
judgment is certain.

August 11, 2021 Acts 17:16-23 - Prog 53
Now that Paul made it safe from
Berea, he is found in Athens alone
for awhile. He spent his time
observing the city seeing that it
was filled with idols and objects
of worship.
Luke writes that Paul made his way
once again to their synagogue to
reason with some devout persons there.
He then made his way to the
market place speaking to anyone
he found.
As it turns out, some of the
philosophers of the Epicureans
(those whose goal in life was to
live in pleasure) and the Stoics
(who practice harsh deprivations)
wanted to know what this new
teaching of Jesus and the
resurrection meant.
So, they brought Paul to Mars hill,
which is also the Areopagus, to hear
what Paul had to say.

August 10, 2021 Acts 17:10-16 - Prog 52
From Thessalonica Paul and Silas
travel to Berea, about 55 miles
away inland.
Luke writes of the eagerness of the
Berean Jews to hear and search the
Scriptures daily to find and see
the truth for themselves. They
wanted to verify the truth of the
gospel Paul was preaching to them.
As a result, many of them believed
what they read and heard, a true
sign of nobility.
But, once again, the unbelieving
Jews of Thessalonica heard about it
and they came there, stirring up
the crowds.
So, the brothers sent Paul, and
others with him, off to Athens by
way of the sea. This was about a
360 mile boat trip.
And here, Paul is left alone in
Athens till Silas and Timothy would
come to him.

August 09, 2021 Acts 17:1-9 - Prog 51
Paul leaves Philippi and heads
south to Thessalonica. He spent 3
sabbaths at their synagogue,
reasoning from the scripture and
proving that the Christ is this
Jesus whom Paul preaches.
From the O.T. scriptures he shows
that the Messiah had to die and
rise again from the dead. Paul
declared that this Jesus is that
Messiah.
This brings out the opposition from
the unbelieving Jews. They were
jealous of the great many who
believed this gospel of God.
Forming a mob, they proceeded to
falsely accuse the apostles of
acting contrary to the decrees of
Caesar thus pitting Jesus, God’s
King and His heavenly kingdom
against Caesar, Rome’s king and
their worldly kingdom.
In John 18:36, Jesus made it quite
clear that His kingdom is not from
this world.

August 06, 2021 Acts 16:25-40 - Prog 50
As we finish Acts 16, the Lord uses
Paul and Silas to bear witness to
fellow prisoners. They had been
praying and singing, when God suddenly
caused an earthquake.
This caused the the prison doors
to open. But great fear came upon
the Jailer who supposed the
prisoners had all escaped.
Here was a man who had now lost all
hope of life from here on.
It was his responsibility to guard the
prisoners at the penalty of his own
life.
He was about to commit suicide with
his sword, when Paul cried out, “Do
yourself no harm. We are all here.”
With hope he pleads, “Sirs, What
must I do to be saved?”

Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be
saved.”

August 05, 2021 Acts 16:16-28 - Prog 49
In Acts 16:16-28, Dr. Mitchell
shares two oppositions to
the gospel.
First was from Satan through a
a spiritual and human slave girl
who was demon possessed.
The second opposition was from
persecution thru those whose real
motive was that they had lost their
unjust revenue source.They express
very anti-semitic words and
attitudes. But, dragging them
before the city rulers, they made
up supposed cultural reasons for
their persecution of Paul and
Silas.
So, Paul and Silas, beaten and
bruised, are thrown into prison.
With their feet in stocks,
they began singing and praying when
God provides a timely earthquake to
open the prison doors.
The jailer, supposing the prisoners
had escaped, was on the verge of
suicide, when Paul told him “Stop,
We are all here”.

August 04, 2021 Acts 16:9-17 - Prog 48
God’s will is shown to Paul and
Silas in Troas, a vision appears in
the night to Paul. A man made a plea
for him to come over to Macedonia.
Here at this same time, Luke
begins to write of his journey
with Paul, Acts.16:10, where he
writes, “...WE sought to go to into
Macedonia concluding that God had
called US to preach the gospel to
them”.
God directed them to the city of
Philippi where a woman named Lydia
heard the gospel and believed, she
and her household.
On the way to prayer, Paul casts
out the demon from a fortuneteller
who was bringing profit to her
owners.
Rather than seeing a woman being
freed from spiritual and human
trafficking, her owners only
saw their unjust revenue flow
stopped on the spot.

We want to say thank you for the
communications the Unchanging Word
have received from you. It is a very
great encouragement to this
ministry to hear how God is working
in your life. We pray that God is
making Jesus very precious to you in
these days.
In Acts 15:36, after some
time had passed in Antioch, Paul
desired to revisit the churches
where they had preached the Gospel
in their first missionary journey.
The Spirit of God through Luke
records a major disagreement
between Paul and Barnabas,
both missionary partners.
Dr. Mitchell brings out the fact
of personality conflicts, which
affect ministry personel and
directions.
God in grace did provide a
future ministry opportunity to John
Mark. He authored the Gospel of
Mark.
God is the God of second
opportunities.
