August 02, 2021 Acts 15:14-35 - Prog 46
Our study in Acts 15 begins with
verse 14 with James, the Lord’s
brother reading scripture, Amos
9:11-12, to ratify the conclusion
that the Gentiles should not be
hindered from being saved by the
same grace of God that these Jewish
apostles and believers had been
saved.
Dr. Mitchell points out that these
scriptures prove that the gentiles
are to be saved before the Lord’s
return, so do not hinder them now.
For their testimony’s
sake, the gentiles were asked to
abide by a few restrictions which
seemed good to the Holy Spirit and
the apostles.
So, Paul and Barnabas and others
went back to the church in Antioch
to report these things. And the
church rejoiced because of it’s
encouragement.

July 30, 2021 Acts 15:1-19 - Prog 45
After the two missionaries returned
from their 1st gospel outreach,
Paul and Barnabas are now
sent from the church in Antioch to
Jerusalem concerning a brewing
controversy over the truth of the
Gospel.
The question was: Do gentiles need
to become Jews and be circumcised
in order to be saved by faith in
Christ? Do the christian gentiles
need to obey the law of Moses?
Dr. Mitchell will go into depth on
this issue. He asks, “Why should we
be occupied with Moses when we have
Christ?”
Salvation from sin has always been
and still is by grace thru faith in
what God has revealed. In this age
and dispensation of grace, God’s
revelation is the person and work
of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Simply, Believe in the Lord Jesus
Christ and you shall be saved.

July 29, 2021 Acts 14:8-28 - Prog 44
As we continue on with Paul and
Barnabas’ 1st missionary journey,
they now travel on to the city of
Lystra.
As Dr. Mitchell points out from the
scripture, the people of Lystra
were idolaters, worshipping the
mythical Greek gods of Zeus and
Hermes.
Being so superstitious, when they
saw the power of God through Paul
healing the lame man, they thought
these two men were gods themselves.
Paul and Barnabas, tearing their
garments running out among them
shouted out loud that they were
just ordinary men like them.
Dr. Mitchell brings out the truth
of Romans 1 how men and women do
worship the creature rather than
the creator.
He also speaks of the age of Grace
and the dispensation of Grace and
what they mean to you and me.

July 28, 2021 Acts 13:38 - 14:7 - Prog 43
Luke records how the message of the
Word of God had such an impact that
many of those having listened,
wanted to hear more. Paul and
Barnabas exhorted them to continue
in the grace of God which they had
heard.
What grace of God did they hear?
They heard of God’s forgiveness of
their sins and His justification out
from under 613 commandments
of Moses’ law. This grace of God is
guaranteed by the finished work of
the risen Lord Jesus Christ.
Dr. Mitchell addresses the sins
of envy and jealousy which the
opposition expressed towards the
messengers and the message of the
Gospel.
Notice how Luke shows the
difference between the Jews and
Gentiles in Acts 13:45-48, the
difference also between the
believers and those who would not
believe.

July 27, 2021 Acts 13:13-39 - _Prog 42
As we continue in following what
Luke records about Paul and
Barnabas’ 1st missionary outreach,
we now find them having traveled to
the city of Antioch in Pisidia.
In their synagogue, Paul’s relates
the history of Israel up until the
resurrection of Jesus from the
dead.
The importance of the fact that
Jesus is now raised brings to light
the fact that now forgiveness of
sins is being proclaimed to you.
Dr. Mitchell declares the
resurrected Christ and the
justification that comes thru faith
in Him alone.
Upon faith and trust in this Lord
Jesus Christ, each one is justified
from all things by God Himself.
Justification is God Himself
declaring to all everywhere that
the believing sinner who trusts in
Jesus Christ is now righteous with
Him and He with this believer.

July 26, 2021 Acts 13:5-13 - Prog 41
Dr. Mitchell continues our study in
the book of Acts resuming in Acts
13:5.
In this passage, Luke writes about
Barnabas and Saul at the outset
of their first missionary journey.
From the outset, there is satanic
opposition from a false prophet.
This magician tried to hinder an
intelligent official from hearing
the Word of God.
But Saul, whose name is changed to
Paul and filled with the Holy
Spirit spoke to the false
prophet such judgement that the
man was blind and unable to see for a time.
Here, Dr. Mitchell tells us that
Paul was especially anointed for
this specific purpose and task.
We are exhorted to be filled with
the Holy Spirit each day to walk
with the Savior and live life in
fellowship with Him.

Luke now takes us from Acts 12 in
Jerusalem to Acts 13 in Antioch
where the church has now grown to
the place where they were
worshipping the Lord and fasting
when God the Holy Spirit calls on
them to set apart 2 men to the work
of God. The Holy Spirit and the
church sends these two men out on a
mission.
If any one should doubt that the
Holy Spirit is a person, read what
He Himself says of Himself. He says
in verse 2, “Set apart for “ME”
Barnabas and Saul for the work to
which “I” have called them.” The
Holy Spirit uses these two personal
pronouns in reference to Himself.

July 22, 2021 Acts 12:01-25 - Prog 39
Luke writes of Peter one last time
in Acts 12. We don’t hear of Peter
again until he writes from Babylon
in his 1st epistle.
For some reason, Herod the King
imprisoned some of the church. He
killed James the brother of the
Apostle John.
Seeing how this pleased the Jews,
he arrested Peter intending to
do the same to him.
But God had other plans. Because of
prayer being made in a house church
for Peter, God sent an angel to
miraculously deliver Peter out of
prison.
With such joy that a young girl by
the name of Rhoda heard the
voice of Peter at their gate, she
forgot to open the gate but ran
inside to say "Peter is outside".
The prayer group had a hard time
believing that God had answered
their prayer.

July 21, 2021 Acts 11:22-30 - Prog 38
Now from Caesarea to Jerusalem,
Luke now takes us to Antioch in
Syria. Jerusalem believers had
scattered because of the
persecution traveling north to
Antioch of Syria.
Some began speaking the word to
Jews only but others began speaking
to the Greeks as well. And many of
them turned to the Lord.
Having heard, the church in
Jerusalem sent a good & faithful man
to them named Barnabas.
When Barnabas arrived, he saw
the grace of God among them. But
they needed someone one to teach
them. It is written, Barnabas
went to find Saul in Tarsus who
when he came there, began teaching
the Word of God among them and there,
they were called Christians.
A good Bible teacher teaches the
Word of God to His church with
Christ at the center.
In Acts 11:22, here is Dr. Mitchell

July 20, 2021 Acts 10:44 - 11:23 - Prog 37
Dr. Mitchell continues with
Peter’s preaching to the household
of Cornelius, a roman soldier.
Peter had not yet finished his
declaration of Jesus Christ, when
in an instant, the Holy Spirit fell
upon those hearing of the
forgiveness of sins.
Peter and the 6 men with him were
astounded at this.
Now, back in Jerusalem, Peter is
called on the carpet, so to speak,
as Dr. Mitchell says. The Jewish
believers wanted an accounting of
why he went into the home of a
gentile. So, Peter reiterates from
the beginning what God showed him
and told him.
Did you see how Peter, in Acts
11:17, says he had received
the Holy Spirit when he believed in
the Lord Jesus Christ at the
beginning that is in Acts 2?
