July 05, 2021 Acts 6:9 - 7:5 - Prog 26
Luke writes of the men who were
ministering to the church in
Jerusalem in our previous lesson.
Now two of these men become the focus
in chapters 7 and 8.
But here in Acts chapter 6:9, Luke
records the opposition to the Gospel.
It came from some unbelieving Jews in
a synagogue against an individual
believer, Stephen, a man full of faith
and of the Holy Spirit and of wisdom
and grace and power.
But these could not withstand the
wisdom and Spirit with which he
spoke to these false witnesses who
accused him of speaking against
Moses. They still found fault
against the Lord Jesus as well.
Stephen then begins to give his
biblical defense from the scriptures
to demonstrate the truth, “Let the
Word of Christ dwell in you richly,
with all wisdom teaching and
admonishing...” Col.3:16

July 02, 2021 Acts 6:1-8 - Prog 25
We come to Acts 6 where Luke writes of the need for
organization amidst the growing number of disciples.
It begins with a complaint from those who were being
neglected in the daily distribution of food.
The 12 apostles were devoted to the ministry of the Word of
God and prayer. Therefore it was necessary for the brothers
to select 7 men of God, full of wisdom and the Spirit of God
to attend to this need.
So 7 men were appointed to this new ministry among them was
Stephen.
Meanwhile, the word of God continued to be proclaimed and
more people were believing the message. Luke even notes that
many of the priests were becoming obedient to the faith which
is in the risen Son of God, Jesus, the Messiah.

July 01, 2021 Acts 5:29-42 - Prog 24
We’re in the book of Acts, chapter 5 beginning in verse 29.
The apostles, once again are brought before the council in
Jerusalem for teaching in the name of Jesus.
Jesus is ever the focus of the teaching.
They responded, “we must obey God rather than men”.
Notice, this ‘obedience to God rather than to men’ is in the
context of unbelieving religious authorities rather than
civil disobedience to the government of Rome. The obedience
to God HERE is in opposition to authoritarian religious
leaders who don’t believe in the living God to raise the
the dead.
Gamaliel, a highly respected rabbi of the time, gave very
wise counsel to these Sadducees. Leave these men alone.
If this movement is of God, you will not be able to thwart
it. And they didn’t.

After the church discipline, Luke writes of a second
persecution of the apostles. This one arose from the
Sadducees who did not believe in the supernatural, that is,
in resurrection especially of their Messiah Jesus.
They arrested the apostles, throwing them in prison. But, as
you will hear, an angel of the Lord brought them out during
the night and told them go on preaching all the words of this
Life. And they did.
This causes quite a stir among the rulers of Israel when the
apostles were not in the prison, but instead were out
preaching in the temple once again.

June 29, 2021 Acts 5:1-16 Prog 22
In Acts chapter 5, we see disciplinary action being
exercised.
Two members lied to Peter and the Holy Spirit. It is
evident that Satan had a major hand in this since he is a
liar and the father of lies. This was apparently a matter
concerning a real estate sale, which was fine, but their
donation was presented as the full price and value when it
was not.
Also, we hear Peter declare that it was the Holy Spirit as
God who was lied to. The result of this discipline of God
in this instance fostered deep respect and fear among all
the people, so much so, some people did not join with them.
However, more believers were still being added to the Lord.
Luke writes - these here were added to the LORD, rather than
to the church.

June 28, 2021 Acts 4:23-37 - Prog 21
The disciples, Peter & John, released from prison, go to
their friends and hold a prayer meeting. They address the
Lord as the creator and quote verses from Ps. 2. This
fits exactly their context in Jerusalem. They make
supplication to the Lord to look upon the persecution
and to give them boldness to witness to the truth of the
resurrection of Jesus. And, having been filled with
the Holy Spirit, they did.
Dr. Mitchell points out that they did not pray to be filled
with the Spirit, but rather that they might speak the Word
with boldness.
The Christians, during persecution, were sharing with one another, as each had a need, vs.32. This verse has
been erroneously used to support socialism and communism.
First of all, note, this sharing was voluntary, and only
between believers and it was not governmentally mandated.

June 25, 2021 Acts 4:13-23 - Prog 20
From Acts chapter 3 into chapter 4, the context of the
healing of a 40 year old lame man by the power of
God through Peter and John is present.
Peter and John chose to obey God rather than obeying
unbelieving religious rulers and they were arrested
and imprisoned. So now in the presence of the rulers,
elders and scribes along with the high priests these
religious men took note of the fact that Peter and
John were not men of their religious schools, but they had
been with Jesus for a period of 3 plus years.
Time spent with Jesus Himself is evident and recognized by others.
Bible school and seminary are good for understanding the
Bible and doctrine, but these can not take the place of time
spent alone with Jesus Himself.

June 24, 2021 Acts 4:5-12 - Prog 19
In preaching of the Word of God, the resurrection of
Jesus Christ and the fact that through faith in Him the lame
man was made to walk, Peter and John were arrested by
annoying anti-supernaturalist rulers. These don’t believe in
spirit, or angels, resurrection or anything supernatural.
They are total materialists in this world.
In spite of it all, about 5,000 people were saved by
hearing Peter’s message.
They, being arrested, God provides another opportunity for
his servants to bear witness to the Lord Jesus Christ and
the salvation from sin that is only through faith in Him
alone.
Peter proclaimed to these religionists that this Jesus is
the stone rejected by them who has now become the chief
cornerstone. The cornerstone establishes angles and
dimensions for the entire building.

June 23, 2021 Acts 3:19 - 4:4 - Prog 18
In this lesson, we hear Peter completing his address to
those gathered in the temple.
He testified the God had, in Jesus, fulfilled what God had
spoken ahead of time through all the prophets. These are
are the Old Testament prophets also found in Hebrew Bible.
If fact, Peter states that all the prophets from Samuel
onward had proclaimed these days. Indeed they still do.
Peter proclaims that God raised up His Son, Jesus the
Messiah, to bless each one by turning everyone from their
sin.
The Lord Jesus Christ who has been raised from the dead.
Believing in Jesus, who is alive right now, you have
turned from this one and only sin by which God will
judge each person. By receiving Jesus Christ as your savior,
you have turned from this sin and God declares you
righteous with Himself.

Dr. Mitchell begins and picks up from our last lesson.
We are in Acts 3:19-4:4.
Dr. Mitchell will take up the truth of the nation of Israel
and their relationship to the Lord Jesus. God has plans for
this Israelite nation yet to be fulfilled in coming days.
There are several scriptures which Dr. Mitchell brings to
our attention which relates to God’s relationship and plans
for the nation of Israel, people whom He loves with an
everlasting love, a people with whom God has made an ever-
lasting covenant which He will fulfill.
Next, in Acts 4, we see how the preaching of the resurrected
Son of God, Jesus Christ, brings opposition. This opposition
comes from the anti-supernatural religious rulers of the
day.
