In Luke chapter 17 verses 11-19, Dr. Mitchell speaks on the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast.

Here we see Luke including the true story of 10 lepers. These cried out saying, Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.”

This word, translated Master, is a word which only Luke uses 6 times in the Gospel of Luke. Both Peter and John used this same word as a direct address to Jesus. Only here, in Luke 17:13, do the lepers use this word in addressing our Lord. This word recognizes Jesus’ authority as the one having the authority to heal their disease.

Only one knew He was cleansed while on the way to the priest. He alone returned to give thanks to the Lord Jesus and He was a cultural outcast, being a Samaritan.

Here is, Dr. Mitchell with Jesus’ authority to forgive as pictured by the healing of 10 lepers, Luke 17:11.

Our study continues in Luke chapter 17. We will start with verse 5. The apostles are asking the Lord to increase their faith.

Dr. Mitchell remarks on this by noting that the apostles did not need more faith in quantity, but more active in the faith they already had. They needed a living active faith.

Then our Lord gives the apostles a short story concerning a servant and his master. The story concludes with Christ saying, doing what was commanded is only what is one’s duty to do. In view of the context, it is forgiveness which one ought to do.

Do we have someone who needs forgiveness from us? Likewise do we need forgiveness before God Himself? God does because Jesus died on the cross for us and our sins.

Here is, Dr. Mitchell with Jesus’ command to forgive where it is needed, Luke 17:5.

This lesson begins in Luke 17 verse 1. We will be exploring the first 4 verses.

Once again Jesus is addressing His disciples. He will be speaking to them about 4 things.

In our study Dr. Mitchell shares with us the first two.

The first of these concerns the matter of offenses towards believers, especially the little ones.

The second concerns forgiveness toward a brother who may cause an offense to another believer.

Dr. Mitchell points out the need for a forgiving spirit relating the Biblical view of forgiveness from Scriptures.

This is especially needful for the Christian in relationship to God. 1Jn. 1:9 says, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

Finishing up Luke chapter 16 at vs. 20, we now learn about the opposite destinations of both the believer and unbeliever after death.

Jesus here is speaking of a true fact of history concerning a man named Lazarus who had been a poor beggar at the gate of a rich man who is, interestingly, not named. Both Abraham and Lazarus retains their personal identity after death while the rich man, although exiting, is not named. The rich man is in torment and Lazarus in being comforted. Lazarus is in Abraham’s bosom while the rich man is in hades.

Dr. Mitchell makes mention that death is a separation between the saved and the unsaved. There is a great gulf or fixed chasm between the two over which none can pass.

Listening to Scripture from the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast with Dr. Mitchell, Luke 16:20, which destination have you chosen?

In Luke 16 on the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast, Dr. Mitchell begins with verse 16.

He will discuss the right use of money as contrasted with covetousness.

Here it should be noted that how one earns money and how one uses money should be based on faithfulness not unrighteousness.

In this portion of Scripture Jesus speaks to the Pharisees about divorce. Apparently they divorced over the matter of riches, which is not Biblical. Read Dt.24:1-4 for what the O.T. said to the Pharisees.

Moving on from here, Dr. Mitchell relates the true story of the rich man and Lazarus from the mouth of JesusHimself. Jesus knows what is on the other side of death for the believer and the unbeliever, either comfort or torment.

Our study now turns to Luke 16 where Luke points our ears to Jesus teaching His disciples rather than the people in general. By way of an illustration, Jesus speaks on wise and faithful stewardship and not dishonesty. This is the story of the unjust steward. A steward is what is known as a manager. This one would have been in charge of managing the finances of his boss.

Dr. Mitchell discourses on wisdom for the future, that is, faithfulness whether in matters great or small. It is wise to provide for the future.

Jesus’ comparisons are between faithfulness and unrighteousness. Whether in faithfulness or unrighteousness, the size of the management is not the issue. What matters is faithfulness or unrighteousness whether in little or much.

Our study through the Gospel of Luke resumes in chapter 15

beginning at verse 11. We find here the parable of the son who wanted his portion of the father’s inheritance and he wanted it right away. This is commonly known as the parable of the prodigal son.

Dr. Mitchell sees this parable as referring to the sinners and the tax collectors as stated in verse 1. It is not a picture of a believer as one who backslides or wanders away into the world and away from God.

If you have not yet trusted Jesus Christ who can and will save you and bring you to God the Father, why not do so right now. He is more than willing to accept you, now, as you are.

Bible Broadcast with Dr. Mitchell, Luke 15:11.

We now continue with the second portion of the parable of our Lord found in Luke chapter 15, verse 8.

In the one parable, the Lord shows the love of God manifest in three stories about what was lost and then is found, and the resulting joy and rejoicing both before people and before God.

This second story from Jesus concerns a woman who lost one of her ten silver coins, and Dr. Mitchell calls this the diligence of God's love.

And he brings out the personal value that you and I are to God Himself, even though we have sin. Jesus paid for all that sin once, for all. So God is now wholeheartedly able to love us just as we are. And this is what our Lord Jesus Christ accomplished at the cross, when He shed His blood and bought us for Himself.

Well, here's Dr. Mitchell. Luke 15, verse 8 on the Unchanging Word Bible broadcast.

Luke, next writes a parable from the lips of our Savior, the Lord Jesus, in Luke chapter 15 and we are looking at verses 1 through 7.

Now the first part concerns the man who lost one sheep and he left the 99 to go after the one which was lost.

And in subsequent studies, Dr. Mitchell will also speak to us on the second example of this parable of the lost coin, which was found by a woman.

And the third parable, commonly known as the parable of the prodigal son, he will also speak about. But in this lesson before us, Jesus speaks of the lost sheep being found. And there was great rejoicing over it. And this pictures the rejoicing before God in heaven over one sinner who repents.

On the Unchanging Word Bible broadcast, here's Dr. Mitchell in Luke chapter 15 verses 1 through 7, sharing the Lord Jesus speaking of the love of God towards you and me.

Jesus now journeys on with a multitude of people following Him, and he turns and speaks stern words on the cost of discipleship and following him wholeheartedly.

His discipleship will affect family and even one's own soul.

So our Lord speaks three parables on the cost of being one of his disciples.

However, these parables also focus on the wisdom of our Lord in selecting His disciples. That is from the perspective of a builder building a tower, a king going to battle, and the worth of real salt.

Jesus describes discipleship. True discipleship becomes salt to the world for preservation, however, if the salt becomes tasteless, it ends up being useless for any flavoring or preservation.

And Paul writes in Colossians 4 verse 6, let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt.

On the Unchanging Word Bible broadcast, let's turn to Luke 14 verse 25, as Dr. Mitchell gives us the definition of a disciple.
