We continue in Luke chapter 14 verse 15 on the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast.

Now here Jesus is still at the dinner hosted by the Pharisee, and so he speaks a parable concerning a man who invited guests to his big dinner. However, they all found excuses for not attending this dinner. So Jesus speaks of the servants going out into the farthest reaches of the country to gather guests to come to this man's prepared dinner.

Now Jesus is here speaking of God's invitation to all everywhere to come to his heavenly feast, the salvation he prepared in the person and work of our Lord Jesus Christ.

You are invited by the Holy Spirit to trust in Christ who is life for us who personally know Jesus Christ.

Well here's Dr. Mitchell, Luke chapter 14 verse 15, and he shows us the three excuses why those invited did not come to the feast.

Again, welcome to the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast with Dr. John G. Mitchell. We continue our study in the Gospel of Luke. We are in chapter 14, verse 1.

Now, here Luke gives us another scene of our Lord Jesus. He has been invited to a dinner in the house of a Pharisee, and when he goes in, lo and behold, here's a man who has dropsy.

Now, this is the first and only time this word is used in Scripture.  And we understand this to mean - edema - the retention of water in the man's body.

Well, Jesus healed him, on purpose, on the Sabbath. While during the dinner, Jesus saw and spoke of those seating themselves at what we would call the head table. Now, Jesus speaks of this.

So let's hear Jesus speak of humility and honor. Let's open our Bibles to Luke, chapter 14, verse 1 with Dr. Mitchell.

God yearns for his people to come to him having made every provision for the forgiveness of sin and his own declaration of their righteousness with him through faith in his son, the Lord Jesus Christ.

Well, Dr. Mitchell will go on to share the Lord's program, the Lord's own schedule to fulfill his purpose of dying for the world on the cross. Nothing and no one would be able to stop him from fulfilling God's purpose and plan for him.

Well, Dr. Mitchell will finish the last lesson of the Lord's healing of the woman, having been bound by Satan for 18 long years.

Now, the Lord goes on to show us the two comparisons of what the kingdom of God is like. Jesus compares it to a mustard seed growing to a huge size, and then he compares the kingdom of God to leaven which permeated an entire mixture of flower.

Now the third scene shows our Lord going through the towns and the villages, teaching when someone asked him if there were only a few being saved. So the Lord gives this parable of the narrow door through which people need to enter to be saved if there is to be any hope at all.

And Jesus is that open door. Here's Dr. Mitchell on the Unchanging Word Bible broadcast, Luke 13 verse 11.

And here Luke writes, focusing our attention on Jesus' parable of a fig tree in a vineyard. And Jesus came seeking fruit from it for three years. And here our Lord is speaking of the nation of Israel. He wanted their acknowledgement of Him as their Messiah and King, and yet they were not willing.

And in the parable, the vine dresser asks that they let the tree stand for yet another a fourth year to see if it would bear fruit.

Now because of this, some Bible scholars are seeing the possibility that our Lord ministered for four years, from His initial preparation for ministry, until His ascension from the Mount of Olives after His resurrection.

While the next scene Luke shows us is Jesus healing a woman whose back was so bent that she was absolutely unable to stand up straight.

Well let's continue in Luke chapter 13 verse 6 with Dr. Mitchell.

We are in Luke, verse 49 with Dr. John G. Mitchell on the Unchanging Word Bible broadcast.

Luke is writing to confirm to his friend, the most excellent Theophilos, the very words that he had heard and been taught concerning Jesus of Nazareth.

Now Jesus lets the people know of his distress concerning his upcoming crucifixion and resurrection, which he would accomplish in a few more months.

His distress has shown in Hebrews chapter 5 verses 7-8 where our Lord prayed to be delivered out of death and he was heard by God his Father.

Well then Jesus calls out the people for their lack of discernment concerning the current reality surrounding them, that is, discernment of the spiritual realities. These realities were relationships in the home and family and the reality of his own personal presence as their Messiah, which they were not acknowledging.

Once again, Luke gives us a snapshot of our Lord. This time the Lord is instructing His disciples concerning His coming to earth a second time.

Dr. Mitchell will give us an overview of this passage which Jesus spoke. The bottom line is for each believer to be ready for the Lord's coming while being faithful to the task and ministry which he has received from the Lord.

Dr. Mitchell also makes a distinction between the Lord's coming for the church in the air at the rapture and the Lord's coming to the earth at His second coming.

The call for you and me is to be a faithful steward with one's ministry and life with our time, talent and treasure while waiting for Christ.

Let's turn with Dr. Mitchell to his exposition in Luke 12:35-48 on the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast.

Thank you for being with us as we continue from our previous lesson where Jesus, having warned of covetousness, went on to share a parable concerning laying up treasure for one's self but not being rich toward God.

So now Jesus comforts His disciples once again. He tells us not to be anxious or worry about our life even as the world's worry and anxiety surrounds us on a daily basis.

Then, Jesus ends up by saying "For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also."

Is your top priority God's priority? As it is written in Colossians 3:1-2 "being raised up with Christ, we are to set our mind on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God, not on things on earth."

Our study in Luke 12 continues in vs, 10 of Luke chapter 12. In this lesson, Dr. Mitchell covers two sections.

The first follows on from our last lesson on confessing the Lord Jesus before people. The focus is on how the Holy Spirit will teach one what to say in one's testimony to others.

The second section has to do with being aware of every kind of covetousness.

Dr. Mitchell relates in detail the danger of covetousness for a man's life does not consist in the abundance of things he possesses . In 1 John 2:16 the pride of life is the boasting of one's possessions, either personal possessions, or personal position.

The Lord goes on to provide an applicable parable of the fool who laid up treasure for himself and was not rich toward God.
