Dr. Mitchell continues from his last lesson here in Luke 9:27-36. Here Luke writes of the transfiguration of our Lord Jesus Christ on what most believe to be Mount Hermon, northeast of Galilee.

Luke lists three disciples, Peter, John and James in this name order. In the Gospels of Matthew and Mark it is different

Peter himself speaks of Jesus’ transfiguration in 2 Peter 1:16-21. Being one of the eyewitnesses of His majesty, he writes to declare that they had not followed cleverly devise myths but were personally present with Jesus when he was transfigured.

But Peter goes on to admonish us that we have a more sure and certain reality of the truth in the divinely inspired Word of God which has greater authority than any personal experience of this kind.

Luke writes of the transfiguration of Christ while He was praying. In Luke 9:27-36, Dr. Mitchell will state 5 things found in this passage.

Here we see, the doctrine of Christ’s 2nd coming.

We see time - about 8 days after His promise to some of them that would not die till they saw the Son of Man coming in His glory.

The test comes from the Lord’s holy character.

The theme is spoken by Moses and Elijah which was the death, burial, resurrection and ascension of our Lord Jesus.

The practical application from the voice of God the Father Himself was, “This is My Chosen One. Listen to Him”.

And Peter, 2 Peter 1:16-21, writes of this from his own personal perspective.

Let’s see Christ here in Luke 9:27-36 with Dr. Mitchell on the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast.

Luke now informs his friend, Theophilus and us, of Jesus’ praying alone.

Then Jesus questions His disciples. "Who do people say I am?"

They told him what they heard the people said. The Lord then asks them," But, you, who do YOU say that I am?" Peter is the one who answered for them all, saying, "The Christ of God".

This same scene is found in Matt.16:13-20. Here you will find Matthew’s extended account of our Lord and His determination to build His church on the solid rock of the revelation from His Father concerning who Jesus is, the Christ, the Son of the living God.

Our Lord then gives His disciples the first declaration of His approaching death, burial and resurrection. The Lord Jesus called them to follow Him.

Let’s follow Christ here in Luke 9:18-26 with Dr. Mitchell on the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast.

In previous lessons, Jesus both cast our demons, healed the sick and raised the dead.

In the passage before, Luke 9:1-17, the Lord gives this, His authority to His disciples to do the same things with an emphasis of proclaiming the kingdom of God.

This mission journey had an effect on Herod who became aware of Jesus, but was perplexed about Him.

When the disciples returned, Jesus took them with Him and when people saw them, they followed Him.

Here is then recorded the only miracle found written in all four Gospels as Dr. Mitchell will share. It is the feeding of the 5 thousand men besides women and children with 5 loaves and 2 fish. The Lord provided a balanced meal which the disciples then gave the people.

Luke tells us, the Lord was urgently asked by Jairus, the ruler of the local synagogue, to come to his house because his 12 year old daughter was on the verge of death.

On the way, the Lord was interrupted when He sensed that power had been drawn out of Him. The disciples were astonished when Jesus said, “Who touched Me?” because the crowd had thronged about Him.

It could have been anyone, but a woman came forward and confessed that she had touched Jesus and had been healed.

Jesus told her that her faith made this possible.

Our Lord also tells Jairus to just believe and not to fear, and He proceeds to raise his sleeping daughter. The word “sleep” refers to a believer is dead in body, but is alive in spirit, because of faith in Christ.

In our last lesson, we saw how Jesus had power over creation in stilling the storm on the lake.

In this lesson, we now see Jesus demonstrating power over demons.

Jesus cast out of a man the demons who spoke with Jesus. They told Him that they knew who He was, Jesus, Son of the Most High God.

They also know there is coming a time when they will be tormented by being cast into the abyss. So they begged the Lord to allow them to enter a herd of pigs, which He did.

Jesus is the one who has the authority over demonic spirits. Peter writes that Christ, who has gone into heaven is at the right hand of God with angels, authorities and powers having been subjected to Him. 1Peter 3:22

Let’s join Dr. Mitchell in Luke 8:26 on the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast.

In this passage, Jesus speaks of true relationships.

The difference is between the earthly and heavenly, between the temporal and the eternal, as Dr. Mitchell brings out.

Luke, next, gives us the picture of Jesus having authority as the Son of Man. He will show His power over creation and the revelation of our Savior’s person as the Son of God. In the present world of technocracy, Jesus still has authority over man and nature. He demonstrates His power over the storms of life.

Are you and I in the midst of a storm today? Jesus is with us and He knows where we are and what we are going through.

So we have to ask, Where is our faith? We are reminded that God is faithful, no matter what.

Here is Dr. Mitchell, Lk. 8:19-31 on the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast.

In this lesson, Luke writes two sections.

The first is the Jesus’ traveling thru cities preaching the kingdom of God. Luke reveals that Jesus and the disciples were supported by several women which he names by name.

Then Jesus goes on to speak the parable of the Sower, the seed and the 4 differing soil conditions. The disciples then wanted to know the meaning of the parable. As Jesus often does, He explains it only to His disciples, because his disciples have ears to hear the truth.

Jesus’ exhorts, “Take care then how you hear, for to the one who has, more will be given, and from the one who has not, even what he thinks that he has will be taken away.”

Let’s join Dr. Mitchell in Luke 8:1 on the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast with each seed and soil and fruit., Luke 8:1.

Jesus is the friend of publicans and sinners. Anyone has free access to the Savior in heaven just by calling upon him in prayer. He is here to hear you no matter what or where you are.

Dr. Mitchell takes us in to the story of the sinful woman who loved the savior and expended her most treasured possession on Jesus. Because of her faith in the Savior, her forgiveness was evidenced by her love for the Savior.

Jesus then speaks to Simon the Pharisee who although having invited Jesus to dinner, did not extend the slightest customary greetings to Jesus. Jesus then speaks to the Pharisee concerning forgiveness for debts that were owed to a moneylender. See how great a grace the moneylender extended to both debtors...he forgave them both.

Let’s turn to Luke 7:36, with the Unchanging Word Bible Broadcast with Dr. Mitchell.

We use to play cowboys and indians as children, but Jesus speaks of weddings and funerals which the children in the market place used for playing games.

Jesus likens the leaders of Israel to these children. They were not satisfied by either John the Baptist or Jesus as evidenced by their rejection of both John and Jesus.

Dr. Mitchell makes note of this fact that unbelief in never satisfied, no matter what or how much evidence is put forth.

Where are you with regard to faith in the truth or unbelief of the facts?

He loves you my friend! And He is as near as your prayer to Him.

Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ who in fact has been raised from the dead and is alive right now today and you will be saved!
