Throughout the year, Land-Grant Holy Land will be bringing you uncut audio primarily from Ohio State press conferences, but also from individual interview sessions.
A little over an hour after Ohio State had capped off a huge upset of No. 11 Purdue inside Mackey Arena, head coach Jake Diebler and sophomore forward Devin Royal spoke to the Columbus Dispatch and Land-Grant Holy Land outside the Ohio State locker room to discuss the game and what it means moving forward.
Diebler, who has harped on “playing smarter” in recent weeks, said that his team’s 18 turnovers weren’t ideal but that the whole “smarter” thing is a work in progress. Instead, he praised his team’s poise in the closing minutes. Diebler said that Ohio State’s final run after Purdue had re-taken the lead was the most important part of the game.
Royal was ecstatic about Sean Stewart’s first career three-pointer, saying that before the game he told Stewart “You’ve gotta get another one up.” Royal also said that his teammates felt more connected during this game and that players were often relaying plays across the floor because you couldn’t hear the coaching staff over the Mackey Arena crowd.
