Vikings Happy Hour

The Minnesota Vikings have completed another week of OTA’s with one more to go. The injury bug has started to show up and it has directly led to some roster churning and burning of previous depth chart rankings. A couple of players were released, including AJ Rose [a.k.a. AXL] and breakout hopeful Kenny Willekes. The Vikings reached out and looked to add to the wide receiver room to beef it up. They first attempted to re-sign Dede Westbrook, but he failed to return the call after his workout, so they scooped up former Chiefs and Dolphins pass catcher, Albert Wilson. Then to replace Willekes, they selected journeyman defensive lineman, Jonathan Bullard.

First, another look at how the offense can improve. Beefing up the WR room makes for more competition, but comes when Ihmir Smith-Marsette and KJ Osborn get dinged up. A quick look at finishes in the rankings, and what Kevin O’Connell even as a rookie head coach can do to turn those outcomes into a top 10 offense.

Finally, we’ll answer your questions, and again they are very good. See you there! #SKOL!

The Minnesota Vikings have completed another week of OTA’s and the mood is light. Will this new car smell energy and attitude translate to more wins? We will have to see, but as of right now everyone seems a lot happier. What are the chances this turns into something special, and by that, we mean a run all the way to the Super Bowl? Is there a chance? Dave and Darren look at the times it did happen in the past. “So there is a chance!”

There will be some quick tidbits and storylines to fill out the final theme, but do not sleep on them, the team isn't planning to. Kevin Seifert wrote a compelling piece on how Kevin O’Connell looks to utilize a healthy Irv Smith. Speaking of healthy, or not, there was drama kicked up over Kellen Mond and what happened last season. Was Mike Zimmer just the grumpy old man sticking it to Rick Spielman or was there a bit more to the story? You decide. …And what is up with the trend of player’s fathers making a fuss in the media? That didn’t happen in the past. Could you imagine Benchwarmer Bob’s dad complaining to Syd Hartman about Lurtsema’s coach? Ha!

Whether it is new math or old math, we’ll be looking at which Vikings quarterback is greater, but first…

On tonight's episode of The Real Forno Show, we dive into two topics. Host Tyler Forness will give a brief overview of the late-round picks and what the future could be.

The picks were:

Rd 5 / pick 165 (22) Esezi Otomewo, Minnesota DE

Rd 5 / pick 169 (26) Ty Chandler, North Carolina RB

Rd 6 / pick 184 (5) Vederian Lowe, Illinois OT

Rd 6 / pick 191 (12) Jalen Nailor, Michigan State WR

Rd 7 / pick 277 (6) Nick Muse, South Carolina TE

The other topic will be a tad more contentious. There was a major discussion over the weekend comparing Minnesota Vikings quarterbacks across eras and who is the most skilled. Who is the best Vikings quarterback? There is a segment of the fanbase that believes it's Kirk Cousins while others believe it's Daunte Culpepper and Fran Tarkenton. Producer Dave joins Tyler in discussing how to compare players across eras.

The Minnesota Vikings have started their OTA schedule and the veteran players arrived earlier in the week. How was the team looking this early? Is there a competition at center or is the team rolling with Garret Bradbury? Is Bradbury a bust or the answers at center? First, however, it is time to answer viewer questions about the team. Darren and Dave are in a question answering mood.

Dave and Darren will then get into part 3 of who will be a breakout player this season. Lynch showed heart and flashed on occasion when he was on the edge. Will he stop up and cement a spot on the roster? Will he play more snaps from the edge or move into the DE position around the 5T position? The guys will make the case that he is about to breakout.

The Minnesota Vikings have their 2022-23 schedule now in print, so let’s look at it a little more in-depth and see who challenges our favorite team. The NFL Schedule makers look to be up to their old tricks again. However, on the bright side, they did move the week 5 bye at the request of the Vikings to week 7. Thanks for the lollipop guys, but where did you shaft the team? December? January? You know they did. Kevin O'Connell and Ed Donatell will have their hands full with some of the quarterbacks the team will face and when. However, at least it wasn’t last year’s lineup except for Aaron Rodgers, Kyler Murray, and Jared Goff.

Darren is worried about the backup quarterback situation. Should he be? Should you? Kirk Cousins “never gets hurt” right? Sean Mannion should be a sideline coach, but the money is better as a player. What about 2021 3rd round pick, Kellen Mond. Is he as bad as Mike Zimmer thought he was, or may Kevin O’Connell coach him into a valuable player that could actually win games? It’s a great question, at least for the fans to know better what the team has, isn't it?

Dave and Darren will then get into part 3 of who will be a breakout player this season. Cam Dantzler would get Mike Zimmer's hook quickly last season, but was it the right move? It surely looks not to be the case. Mike Zimmer was fired and now Ed Donatell will have to figure out who his best corners are, and if Tiny Dantzler is one of them.

Here are the themes for the show:

Theme #1 - Vikings schedule released

Theme #2 - Backup QB worries

Theme #3 - Breakout player: Cam Dantzler
