Vikings and The Draft Network… Good morning Horners! Welcome to the bye week special. Joining us on today’s show is Jordan Reid. He is a senior scout at The Draft Network. With your Minnesota Vikings starting 1-5, Dave, Drew, and Ryno wanted to pick his brain on some future possible selections in the NFL 2021 Draft. Who are your favorites?

 We talked about the big three quarterbacks like Trevor Lawrence, Justin Fields and Trey Lance. We also hit on Zack Wilson who is having a marvelous season so far. If the Vikings don't select a new quarterback, could they move up enough or be positioned to select Penie Sewell, the monster left tackle out of Oregon. We talked about safeties like Trevon Moehrig from TCU and Paris Ford from Pitt, along with interior defensive lineman Jordan Davis out of Georgia and probably what would be Mike Zimmer’s dream pick of Patrick Surtain II, a corner out of Alabama. Which would you like to see in purple?

Good morning Horners! A day after the Minnesota Vikings got destroyed by the Atlanta Falcons 40-23 [“and it wasn’t that close”] the post game reaction show still resonates. Now’s your chance to watch it if you missed it live. Kirk Cousins opened the game with a bad throw and interception giving the Falcons a quick start in Vikings territory. For the remainder of the first half, it continued down hill from there.

 Matt Ryan played with our young corners all day as his squad posted 40 points on the board. Kirk Cousins went into his pad the stats mode in the second half but don’t let that fool you. This loss started with him solely. Then other choices and calls from the coaching staff just added to it. In the show, we ask is it time to blow it all up? The Vikes have now started 1-5 and have tied the worst starts in franchise history. Will they end up with the worst season? That has yet to be seen, but the last 1-5 start in 2013 drove to Mike Zimmer being hired the next season.

 Justin Jefferson seemed to be the only really bright spot of the day absolutely balling out. He had 166 yards on 9 catches and 2 TDs. In his first 6 games he has passed both Stefon Diggs and Randy Moss with total yards caught. That my friends is a pretty good indicator, and so different from the last first round WR Rick Spielman selected.

 This was also the first game for second rounder, Ezra Cleveland. What did you think of his performance? Not too bad? Bad, but a good sign for his first game in a position and on a side he never played before against an elite 3T (or close to it) in Grady Jarrett? We’ll see how it goes forward. Cleveland gave up 5 pressures and 1 sack. Hopefully that will improve quickly.

Vikings vs Falcons… Good morning Horners! Is this the get right weekend? After the Atlanta Falcons fired their head coach, they come to town with an 0-5 record. The Minnesota Vikings play their first game after that intense Sunday Night Football loss to the Seattle Seahawks. Is this a possible trap game, where the Vikings let down because of week 5? Drew, Ryno, Dave and Ted look forward to this game, and you can join us!

 Dalvin Cook and Dru Samia have already been ruled out due to injuries. The Falcons have been decent against the run only allowing an average of about 110 yards per game, whereas the Vikings have averaged over 160 per game. Knowing that, do you think Alexander Madison and Mike Boone will hit that mark? How about the fact that the Falcons are next-to-last in pass coverage, will that drive a more pass happy Kirk Cousins game plan?

 How will the Vikings defense do against the Falcons weapons? There is a question whether Julio Jones will play or not, but you still have Hayden Hurst, Calvin Ridley, Russell Gage, and the ever young Todd Gurley getting throws or handoffs from Matt Ryan. Will Mike Hughes, Jeff Gladney, and Cameron Dantzler continue their improvement and make life rough for those receivers?

 In the second half of the show, we get into possible draft position discussions based on theoretic finishes for the Vikings. Of course the Vikings can go rip off a bunch of wins and push for that slight percentage chance to make the postseason, or more likely, they’ll be looking at a top 10 pick in the 2021 draft. Yes, it is unfortunate that a lot of talk in Vikings land is already looking ahead to next year. We’d love to hear your thoughts.
